HOLLYWOOD – As the Steve Miller Band hits the road on a major North American tour attracting sold-out, multi-generational crowds, the multi-platinum selling classic rocker’s first-ever DVD is hitting retail and public television with major impact following its first week of release.

Live From Chicago, the 40th anniversary three-disc set (two DVDs and a 12-song CD) from Coming Home Media released May 27th, shipped Platinum (pending RIAA certification) to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Music Video charts amid across-the-board critical acclaim and wide media attention. The concert portion of the DVD, filmed last summer during an incredible two-night stand at the fabulous Ravinia in Chicago, also is enjoying a highly successful run as part of the summer pledge drive on PBS stations nationwide, with more TV markets continuing to come aboard.

Live From Chicago has attracted significant coverage from the Wall Street Journal, CNN, VH1, Associated Press, Reuters, Billboard, and numerous other media outlets across the continent. Directed and produced by Daniel E. Catullo III (Godsmack, Rush, Dave Matthews Band) and produced by Jack Gulick (Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Godsmack), the DVD is being hailed as “a gem” with an “A” rating in a Goldmine cover story; “definitely a keeper” by Mix; “a musical feast” by Friday Morning Quarterback, and “such a treat” by Newhouse News Service. It also earned an “A” from the Philadelphia Daily News as “a rip-roaring DVD concert package” with “razor sharp and colorful” visuals and “crisp, stereo/multichannel mixes.”

Vintage Guitar raves “the result is a feeling of being right there with Miller and his impressive ensemble,” about the state-of-the-art, 17-camera high definition shoot. Packed with powerful performances of 20 of the band’s most beloved songs – including “Fly Like An Eagle,” “Living In The USA,” “Jet Airliner,” “Abracadabra,” “Rock’n Me,” “The Joker,” “Take The Money And Run,” “Swingtown” and “Jungle Love” – the concert DVD offers four different audio options, including 5.1 Surround Sound.

The second disc contains a revealing documentary of the band’s traditionally reclusive namesake. Miller takes fans on a trip into his past, visiting many of the clubs where he got his start. Beginning in the mid-‘60s when a young Miller moved to Chicago itching to become part of the city’s vibrant blues scene, the trip down memory lane includes recollections of his pre-Steve Miller Band gigs with Blues legends like Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. This remarkably intimate documentary and accompanying photo gallery features many exclusive images from Miller’s own collection. Both DVDs come packaged in a luxurious digipak with a 12 page, full-color booklet, and are accompanied by a 12-song live CD of all of the band’s favorites.

One of rock ‘n’ roll’s true originators, the Steve Miller Band has sold over 25 million albums since debuting in 1968 with Children of the Future and Sailor, and is still a mainstay of the summer concert season.

In the two weeks since the tour’s kickoff, surprise guest appearances by country superstars Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney have been early highlights along the 37-city summer trek. McGraw accepted Miller’s invitation on stage in Houston to sing “Rock’n’ Me” together at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. And Sunday night in San Francisco, Chesney brought out Miller to a stadium crowd at AT&T Park to join him in renditions of “The Joker” and “Rock’n’ Me” before 40,000 country fans.
