imeem Launches ?Mutiny and Mayhem? Search for Artists to Join the 2008 Treasure Island Music Festival Lineup | Social Networking Site Provides Opportunity for Upstart Bands to Perform on the Same Bill with The Raconteurs, Justice, Vampire Weekend, TV On the Radio, Hot Chip and More.
Today, imeem, the leading social media network, launched Mutiny and Mayhem, a nationwide search for two talented acts to perform at the second annual Treasure Island Music Festival. imeem’s Mutiny and Mayhem contest will select a band to open the Tunnel Stage each day of the festival, which takes place on September 20th and 21st in San Francisco. The act selected for Saturday’s opening slot will join an impressive bill of electronic, dance and hip hop acts that includes Justice, TV on the Radio, Goldfrapp, Hot Chip, Aesop Rock, Amon Tobin and Foals, among others. The act selected to play Sunday’s opening slot will kick off a stellar lineup of indie rock artists that includes The Raconteurs, Tegan & Sara, Vampire Weekend, Spiritualized, John Vanderslice, and more.
Individual artists and bands who are interested in performing at the Treasure Island festival can enter the contest by submitting their original performances via the festival?s official imeem page: www.imeem.com/treasureislandfestival. Following the July 28th submission deadline, a panel of judges representing imeem, Another Planet Entertainment, Noise Pop, and San Francisco music venue The Independent will select 10 finalists for each day of the festival. imeem users will then have the chance to vote for their favorite artists among the finalists through August 17th. The two Mutiny and Mayhem winners will be announced on Monday, August 18th.
?We?re happy that imeem and our community will be a part of Treasure Island again this year,? said Matt Graves, vice president of marketing for imeem. ?The Noise Pop and Another Planet teams put together one of the coolest festival experiences out there, and we?re excited to join them in giving emerging artists the chance to rock onstage with this year?s lineup.?
The Mutiny and Mayhem competition is open to both signed and unsigned artists. Acts must be registered with imeem to enter and must submit performances for consideration via the official Treasure Island Music Festival imeem page: www.imeem.com/treasureislandfestival. The page includes a full list of official rules governing the Mutiny and Mayhem competition.
Treasure Island Music Festival is organized by the creators of the Noise Pop Festival, one of the nation?s longest-running music festivals, and Another Planet Entertainment, a nationally established independent concert promoter based in Berkeley, California. The two-day festival will once again take place in one of the world?s most breathtaking settings: an island smack-dab in the middle of the San Francisco Bay and has been called a ?full blown love affair? by SPIN.COM, and has SF WEEKLY boasting that ?NorCal has its own Micro-achella.?
?Treasure Island Music Festival strives to provide opportunities for up-and-coming artists,? says Jordan Kurland, co-producer of both Treasure Island Music Festival and Noise Pop Music Festival, ?Our partnership with imeem is constructed with the same goal in mind: to give a band exposure to a larger audience than they normally play in front of and ultimately, help to grow their fan base. imeem is the perfect match for us in that they are based in our home town and are just as passionate about music as we are.”
Artists performing on Saturday during the Treasure Island festival include Justice, TV on the Radio, Goldfrapp, Hot Chip, CSS, Antibalas, Aesop Rock, Amon Tobin, Foals, Mike Relm, Nortec Collective: Bostich and Fussible, Loquat, and Chester French. Artists performing on Sunday include The Raconteurs, Tegan & Sara, Vampire Weekend, Spiritualized, Okkervil River, Tokyo Police Club, The Kills, Dr. Dog, John Vanderslice, The Dodos, Fleet Foxes, The Morning Benders, and Port O?Brien.
