FROM BROOKLYN TO THE WORLD: PISTOLERA RELEASES NEW ALBUM TODAY!

BROOKLYN, NY – Critically-acclaimed Latin folk-alternative group, Pistolera, continues its mission to expand the limits of Latin music as they release their new album, En Este Camino TODAY! The new album is the follow-up to their buzzworthy 2006 debut Siempre Hay Salida. En Este Camino reunites the band with Grammy Award-winning producer Charlie Dos Santos. The result is a sonic merging of soul-stirring traditional Mexican rhythms laced with social commentary via lyrics from accomplished singer/songwriter Sandra Lilia Velásquez. En Este Camino has much range. The play list zigzags the listener through an uplifting blend of dance-inducing sounds that can be heard at any backyard “carne asada” mixed with political themes. It is music for your feet and your mind. Topics include the plight of the immigrant (“Extranjero”), tongue-in-cheek observations about a racially-biased American power structure (“Policía” and “Piloto”) and an appreciation for wisdom that comes from maturity (“Nuevos Ojos,” “Un Momento” and “Vieja”). All in all, the En Este Camino is as much a celebration of “cultura” as it is thought-provoking owing to the music’s unique ability to frame political views without overshadowing the upbeat fiesta attitude of the band.

In addition to the album, Pistolera will perform at Central Park SummerStage with Kinky and Alejandro Escovedo on August 9, 2008. The band will then make its way to Los Angeles on August 13 to for a special show at MaxcArthur Par. They will also open for Lila Downs at Town Hall in NY for the “Mexico Now” festival on September 15, 2008.

ABOUT PISTOLERA:
The success of Pistolera’s debut album “Siempre Hay Salida” (2006) launched the bands’ international touring career with tours in the USA, Mexico, and Europe and performances at such high-profile festivals as The Montreal Jazz Festival, global FEST (USA), Ollin Kan (Mexico), and Sfinks Festival (Belgium). The album was recorded by Grammy Winning producer Charlie Dos Santos in their hometown of Brooklyn and featured guest appearance by members of Si*Se, Grupo Fantasma, and Slavic Soul Party!
