“PAINT FOR PEACE” UNVEILS AN ALL NIGHT PAINT-A-THON TO RAISE AWARENESS OF HEALING THROUGH ART AND MUSIC, ELECTRONIC MUSIC VIGILANTES PEACHCAKE TO PERFORM

Electro-pop humanitarians, Peachcake, have partnered with nonprofit HEAL International and the Online Artist Community SprayGraphic.com to create a wholly unique, all-night community paint-a-thon called “Paint for Peace” (www.planetawesome.org). This unique collaboration will take place Thursday, December 18th at the Scottsdale Waterfront [7134 E. Stetson Dr.] and will be the first in a series of nationwide events. To encourage community participation, “Paint For Peace” will be a free event open to the public and will be a part of this year’s “NightLights on the Canal” (www.nightlightsonthecanal.com) festival, supported by Scottsdale Public Art.

“Everyone from the community is invited to come and express themselves with free canvases and art supplies we provide,” says Peachcake singer Stefan Pruett. “This is a way for people to unify and express themselves in support of each other. We are making this a nationwide project that will span across 10 different cities/states throughout the US by the end of 2009, so that other people across the country can experience the benefit and effervescence of art therapy and community catharsis.”

“The individual canvas artworks submitted by the community will be sewn and shaped to form larger works that will be used to support local violence shelters and to beautify public spaces in the community,” remarks Damien Salamone, Executive Director for HEAL International. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to use this form of community expression to create healing in the community.”

After releasing a successful debut EP via Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World’s label Western Tread, Peachcake soon found themselves playing sold-out shows to fans of all ages, being the first-ever band asked to play Burning Man, and getting attention from the press (URB deemed them one of their ’100 Artists To Watch’ among other praises). Then, just as the band was on the brink of taking over, tragedy hit. In September ’07, came the shocking death of lead singer Stefan Pruett’s little brother and Peachcake keyboardist, Alex.

After Alex’s passing, the band chose to commit themselves to raising awareness and healing through art and music. Peachcake started the Positivity Movement under their Planet Awesome entity, which involved setting up youth hotlines, the free distribution of art throughout LA, launching a TV series (which will be piloted by FOX in the Summer/Fall of 2009), and the “Painting For Peace” community event and art installation. The band will celebrate the release of their full-length debut, What Year Will You Have the World?, with three separate events in Arizona in December.
