Eagle Rock Brings Timeless Performance To DVD CHARLES MINGUS: EPITAPH
~Release Date April 28~

Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to bring the extraordinary Epitaph performance to DVD on April 28. This masterpiece, performed at the Alice Tully Hall in New York City’s Lincoln Center on June 3, 1989, was the world premiere performance of this epic and awe-inspiring composition.

Led by conductor Gunther Schuller, the 30-piece orchestra was composed of members from various bands of jazz greats, including Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Art Blakey and Duke Ellington. This historic musical journey, bringing to life the longest and largest piece for jazz orchestra ever composed, was described as “one of the most memorable jazz events of the decade” by The New York Times.

Mingus’ magnum opus Epitaph was discovered after his death in 1979. One of the world’s most magnanimous maestros, his music is just as astounding 30 years after his death. This DVD offers the opportunity to see and hear a piece of uncovered magic from one of America’s most treasured musicians, bandleaders, and composers.
