Ron Dunivan Presents: Merle Haggard and Chester Smith Miracle Story

All my life I have worked hard to make it in the music business. I didn’t know a miracle was about to happen. My brother Dennis and I, Ron Dunivan met a man who knew Chester Smith. He said he would help me but like many times before it didn’t happen. So, one day my brother and I went back to the restaurant in Twain Hart, California. We received Chester’s phone number from a man walking down the street. I called the number and Chester answered. This was a miracle talking to a legend of country music.

As we talked I asked for his help in the music business and he said yes. I was surprised and sent him my CD called Millennium Route 66 with Martin Milneer’s endorsement from the television series of the same name. Although the phone went dead during this conversation I prayed that God would have him call back. Sure enough within 20 minutes he did. My brother and I were both shocked as we felt we had witnessed a miracle. He cried as I finished the call with Chester. It was a very touching moment for both my brother and I, Dennis believed as he never did before. He saw the miracle he had always wanted to see. “Praise God”. After being invited for lunch with Chester we became very close friends. As the days went by, Chester set it up to meet Merle Haggard and his band, The Strangers. Chester asked me to come to his TV station in Chico, California. I was waiting in his TV station when Merle Haggard came in with Chester. We met and I spent 13 hours in the TV station with Merle and his band.

Another miracle I never dreamed would ever happen was that Chester offered to take the band across the street for lunch at his expense. Another miracle was taking place as I thought how many artists would like to be in my shoes – probably millions. The odds were impossible, but to God nothing is impossible. My second brother, Dale, had prophesied this was going to happen and it did. Unfortunately he passed away before he was able to see his prophecy come to pass. I was highly blessed by God and I gave Him the praise, glory and honor. I hope someday to tell this miracle story to Oprah, Ellen or a major television program.
