THE DRONES ANNOUNCE US TOUR DATES PLAYING ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES NEW YORK
Melbourne’s The Drones will be embarking on a brief US tour this September, with stops in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. They will also be playing the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in upstate New York. Their latest album, Havilah, was released earlier this year on ATP Recordings.
Havilah, like everything The Drones have done, is an album of contradictions, where bombast meets beauty, melancholy wrestles with violent guitars and singer Gareth Liddiard’s incendiary voice lights up his angular poetry, this time on the nature of, in no particular order, the moon (Penumbra), divorce (The Drifting Housewife) and the acquisition of godlike power and the cult of John Frum (I Am the Supercargo). It’s an album that’s brimful of the innovation and artistic integrity that has made The Drones one of Australian rock’s most critically acclaimed acts here and overseas during the past four years.
Praise for Havilah:
“This cleaner-sounding set finds the quartet’s elemental power now yielding to poise, their speaker-bleeding blues and jagged riffs leavened by folk shimmer and country jangle.” – MOJO
“Havilah broadens the Drones’ sonic palette and continues to carve out a sound that is uniquely theirs.” – Pitchfork
“Sidewinding bass lines and slashing guitar help pull together ballads of marital woe, epic rock, and rousing takes on regret.” – Spin
“What Havilah does is jump up and down on the rotting carcasses of The Vines and Jet, stabbing them again and again with a flag that says ‘Miles. Better. Than. You. Ever. Were. Mate.’” – NME
