MySpace Music and Willie Nelson have announced a performance at his hometown bar in Maui, Hawaii for another intimate installment of the popular “Secret Show” franchise on Tuesday, August 25, the day his new Blue Note album American Classic is released. The show—which will also feature a special guest appearance by indie rockers Band of Horses—will take place at Charley’s Restaurant & Saloon in the town of Paia along Maui’s famous Hana Highway. American Classic is Nelson’s first album of jazz standards since his landmark 1978 masterpiece Stardust. The album, which was produced by Tommy LiPuma and features special guest appearances by Norah Jones and Diana Krall, will be premiered on MySpace, streaming in its entirety beginning on Saturday, August 22. MySpace is also currently featuring a video about the making of the album.

Nelson will also be revealing tracks from American Classic on his SIRIUS XM channel “Willie’s Place” (SIRIUS channel 64 and XM channel 13) with a special weekend of programming called “Willie Standard Time.” Listeners will get to hear Nelson’s personal stories about various tracks from the album every hour beginning today, Friday, August 21.

Check out what the critics have been saying about American Classic:

“More than 30 years after the release of Willie Nelson’s highly acclaimed 1978 standards album “Stardust,” the artist cracks open the Great American Songbook once again… 12 timeless melodies that bridge the gap between Nelson’s love for Django Reinhardt and Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys. Backed by modern jazz greats, the country legend delivers elegant takes on certified ballroom gems.”

—BILLBOARD

“Nelson delivers these jazzy perennials with an intimate authority, his half-a-century of music-making engrained in every note.”

—MOJO

“Willie Nelson is a man for all seasons… His recent musical partners range from Snoop Dogg, Ziggy Marley and Elvis Costello to Los Lonely Boys, Kenny Chesney and – on ‘American Classic,’ Nelson’s arresting new album of Tin Pan Alley standards – Diana Krall.”

—SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE

“The familiar tenor slips in easily with the smooth pianos, sounding confident and at ease—appropriate for the king of cool.”

—FILTER

“When he sings, you can hear the crinkles around his eyes in his voice… it’s clear there’s no one else who could better conjure up late hours in a near-empty barroom.”
