The Diableros return with new EP Old Story, Fresh Road on Outside Music

Toronto – The Diableros are back with a new EP available on clear 45rpm vinyl and digitally on October 13th. Old Story, Fresh Road features five brand new tracks produced, engineered and mixed by Laurence Currie (Sloan) at Hallamusic and Sunnyside Studios in Toronto. The new EP marks a return to the band’s intense sound and brooding instrumentation which is rounded out by Pete Carmichael’s valiant and honest vocal delivery. Old Story, Fresh Road is also the band’s most collaborative and focused effort to date.

The Diableros’ debut album You Can’t Break the Strings In Our Olympic Hearts propelled them to the forefront of the Canadian music scene. They landed on the cover of Now Magazine, played the main stage at the inaugural V Fest, toured Canada twice and shared the stage with the likes of Art Brut, We Are Scientists, Camera Obscura , Cold War Kids and The Stills. Word spread across the border and the album garnered rave reviews in Pitchfork, Entertainment Weekly, Under The Radar, Pop Matters and the band played 2 sold out shows in New York City. The band’s second long-player Aren’t Ready For The Country included anthemic rockers like “Kicking Rocks” and the melancholic slow burn of “Mist”. The epic “Turning Backwards” could be the soundtrack to a David Lynch short film with its intensity quelled only by an eerie whisper which leads to a riveting climax.

“Our underlying approach was to make this new EP sound as close to a live recording as possible,” says Carmichael. “It represents what The Diableros really sound like. There are a few overdubs but we didn’t dress it up too much; just enough to add some extra energy, texture and when needed, a saxophone to really bring home the message of a song.”
