Embattled soul singer Amy Winehouse is set to release her long-awaited third album next year, according to her record label.
Island says Winehouse is recording a new set of songs, reportedly written with Salaam Remi. Remi was responsible for her Grammy-winning Back to Black album, which launched in 2006 and contained her mega-hit, Rehab.
“I’ve heard a couple of song demos that absolutely floored me,” Island co-president Darcus Beese told the Guardian newspaper. “Hopefully, we’ll have her album next year.”
Since her 2006 album, which captured five Grammys, Winehouse has been regular fodder in the tabloids with her public battles with drugs and alcohol and her rocky marriage with Blake Fielder-Civil, which ended in early 2009 in divorce.
The singer took an extended sojourn on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia this year where there were more reports of excessive drinking. She was admitted to a hospital there after fainting and was found to be dehydrated.
Island admits the singer has been working on her latest album in St. Lucia in “fits and starts.”
