Ottawa’s The Acorn make Uncut Music Award longlist before hitting the road with Ohbijou.
Toronto – Glory Hope Mountain by The Acorn has been included on the longlist for the Uncut Music Award which rewards the “most inspiring and rewarding musical experience” of the past year. Glory Hope Mountain is the only Canadian band of the 25 artists on the list which also includes albums by Bob Dylan, Arctic Monkeys, Wilco, Animal Collective and Kings of Leon.
A shortlist of eight albums will be announced in the November issue with the 2009 Uncut Music Award winner being revealed in Uncut’s January 2010 issue. In the meantime, The Acorn will be touring with Ohbijou (dates below) and putting the finishing touches to Glory Hope Mountain’s follow-up to be released in early 2010.
The Acorn is the anchored by vivid songwriting and eclectic instrumentation producing an original brand of experimental, popular folk music that effortlessly marries modern and traditional forms. The band’s latest full-length album Glory Hope Mountain is a sprawling, biographical album based on the life of singer Rolf Klausener’s mother Gloria Esperanza Montoya. Armed with heart-drums, gut-strings, ukuleles, marimbas and Klausener’s best songwriting to date, The Acorn has created a moving musical document of a miraculous life.
