Birmingham, UK group Seeland (Tim Felton/Broadcast and Billy Bainbridge/Plone) is releasing a brand new remix EP highlighting “Captured,” the second single to be taken from their debut album, Tomorrow Today, (LOAF). The album was included in The Wire’s ‘Top Ten Albums of 2008′, among other accolades, and was released in the US earlier this year.
“Captured” is a superb slice of uptempo psychotropic pop. A love song to set your head spinning and get your toes tapping. Full of soaring harmonies, jangly guitars and fairground organs, like some lost gem from the Postcard era it’s reminscent of both Joseph K and Orange Juice with a touch of Neu and a dash of Prefab Sprout. The accompanying video is full of big ideas and lush imagery that attempts to re-create the experience suffered by Tim Felton as he recorded the composition. Allegedly ‘spiked’ by a fellow band member, Tim saw himself as a hapless pilot of the good ship love, tormented by visions of dubious ladies of the night, who had to all intents and purposes ‘captured his heart.’
So.. there you go..
The EP also contains an incredible remix of the aptly titled “Call The Incredible” (available for mp3 download) by none other than LOAF’s favorite ‘hauntologists,’ The Advisory Circle, who transform the original into a ghostly folk gem, whilst Danish composer Thomas Knack, whose work with Bjork produced such amazing results, wraps “Library” in a soft electronic web to create an off-kilter classic.
Seeland was formed in the winter of 2004/05. They have previously released two singles for Stereolab’s Duophonic imprint, but have spent the past few years mastering their newest album of contemporary psychedelia. Seeland comes amid the fallout from Birmingham, UK’s ‘Retro Futurist Electronic scene’- a group of musicians and artists inspired by space age pop, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Joe Meek and eccentric 60′s library music.

“…top-notch romantic synth-pop with a weirdo edge.” – Pitchfork
“Cool tunes from a kaleidoscopic laboratory. This act combines former members of Broadcast and Plone, and their debut bristles with all the geek-chic those credits suggest.” – KEXP “Top 10 for 2009″ Kurt Reighley
“… Tim Felton and Mike “Billy” Bainbridge achieve the kind of sonic grandeur that gives you chills.” – BLURT
“Seeland… weave vintage electronics, studio experimentation and, and a myriad of other musical influences into their songs.” – XLR8R
“…Tomorrow Today places itself as the lastest development of a parallel history where the guitar was an afterthought and synthesizers and sonic explortaion ruled pop music.” – The Wire
“this group of ex-Broadcast and Plone members has an affinity for the sounds and instruments of a bygone golden age of German pop music…vintage analog synthesizers, live and electronic drums, clean guitar leads, and subdued vocals.” – Tiny Mix Tapes
