DIRTY PROJECTORS TO PLAY LINCOLN CENTER IN NEW YORK CITY, WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL IN LOS ANGELES

Dirty Projectors are pleased to announce two incredible shows that will happen early next year. First, the Brooklyn-based band will play New York City’s Lincoln Center as part of the acclaimed American Songbook series on February 19th. On February 27th, Dirty Projectors will co-headline the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Since it was launched in 1998, American Songbook at Lincoln Center has been dedicated to celebrating the achievements of American popular song from the turn of the 20th century to the present. Spanning all styles and genres, from Tin Pan Alley to the eclecticism of today, American Songbook traces the history and charts the course of American song from its past forms to its future direction.

The LA Philharmonic has been hailed as Southern California’s leading performing arts institution since its founding in 1919. February’s concert is a collaborative endeavor: the first half of the program features the Los Angeles Philharmonic performing orchestral pieces chosen with David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors. The second half of the program features a performance by Dirty Projectors.

Described as everything from “New England soul music” to “completely strange and oddly familiar at the same time,” Brooklyn-based Dirty Projectors play experimental rock that references everything from Congolese music to medieval antiphonal singing, synthesizing them into something altogether new. The group, whose collaborators include Bjork and David Byrne, is led by Longstreth, whose soaring vocals are paired with intricate guitar work, tight harmonies and more than a dose of genius.
