(Los Angeles, CA, January 20thh, 2010)- Multi-platinum rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars’ first single “Kings & Queens” from their new album This is War (EMI/Virgin) takes the #1 spot as the most played song on the alternative radio airplay chart this week after 15 weeks of airplay. This marks the band’s second #1 single at the format and third top 5 hit. The platinum selling A Beautiful Lie’s “From Yesterday” reached #1 in 2007 and “The Kill” peaked at #3 in 2006 before becoming the first song in alternative radio history to be retired from the Billboard chart after a 52-week run. “The Kill” was recently named the #1 Alternative song of the last decade by AOL Radio listeners. The “Kings & Queens” video was featured as iTunes video of the week last month and was one of the most downloaded videos ever to be featured. The video is currently on Fuse’s #1 Alternative Countdown and is also receiving airplay at MTV, MTV2, MTVu, VH1 and Music Choice. “Kings & Queens” will be featured in the trailer for the upcoming Warner Bros. animated film ”Guardians Of Ga’Hoole.”
Thirty Seconds to Mars has been actively encouraging their fans to donate money to emergency relief efforts in Haiti. The band has compiled and posted a list of relief organizations including UNICEF, The Red Cross, OXFAM and others on their website and social networking sites. They are also auctioning off tickets, backstage passes and dinner with the band at a concert of choice through ebay at http://ow.ly/Y3JP, all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross. Leto participated in the “Haiti: How You Can Help” live telethon on Larry King Live on Jan. 18th which raised $5 million dollars for UNICEF and the American Red Cross, including the $1,000 winning-bid by Jared for the a suspenders that Larry was wearing.
This is War, which received 4 out of 5 stars by Alternative Press who declared the album an “artistic triumph,” was released on Dec. 8th, 2009 with thousands of different album covers, as friends, fans, musicians, artists and many other notable persons submitted their own photos to be used on individual covers as part of the band’s innovative Faces of Mars campaign. The album debuted at #2 on the alternative album chart and the digital album chart, selling nearly 71,000 copies in the first week. Both Thirty Seconds To Mars and This Is War have been top ten trending topics on Twitter for weeks and two of the album’s songs “Kings & Queens” and “This is War” are constantly at the top of the Twitter Music Monday chart #MusicMonday at twit40.com, a weekly Twitter trend that gives Tweeters a chance to find and share music.
