Memoryhouse – Caregiver album
Canada’s Memoryhouse set to release new single on Suicide Squeeze.
Toronto — Guelph, Ontario’s dream-pop duo, Memoryhouse are set to carry the momentum of recent successes by releasing a brand new single on Suicide Squeeze. “Caregiver” will be released digitally on November 9th. A physical, limited 7″ will be available on December 7th with a digital download coupon (listen below). Memoryhouse’s Evan Abeele and Denise Nouvion have been quietly making a name for themselves over the past year. The Pitchfork ‘Rising’ labeled pair have released The Years EP and the “Lately” 7″ to critical acclaim.
The “Caregiver” single showcases a confident leap forward for Memoryhouse. Gone are the icy synths that washed across the duo’s earlier songs. Oh yes, you will still find familiarity in Nouvion’s voice, blanketed by that lush, ethereal reverb, and, in Abeele’s arrangements, which remain subtle and moving as anything they’ve previously released. Yet, “Caregiver” underscores a more dynamic and ambitious sound palette for the band, placing an emphasis on organic instrumentation. The single was recorded in rural Ontario using upright piano, a string quartet, and natural drums – to augment their traditionally guitar and keyboard driven songs.

“…the EP clearly sets Abeele and Nouvion apart from their more amateur peers. The Years may be awash in nostalgia, but far from inviting unfavorable comparisons, it mostly confirms that the past was indeed as good as you remember.” – Pitchfork
