Malajube – La Caverne album review
A cave full of sound: Maljube La Caverne
I believe an album should start strong and end strong and the boys from Maljube accomplish that with La Caverne. The title track Synesthesie is so giddy and full of life that you’ll want to put on your dancing pants and dance all night. This is their fourth album in 7 years which is amazing in itself. But to also not give up their French roots by singing all the songs in french this band has kept something very special. The music doesn’t get lost either, you just want to hear the next song because of Juilen Mineau smooth buttery voice melting into your ears. Also as the title track is appropriately named the synths is very much in foreground and blend so well with the guitar.
This album is well thought out the songs given a perfect length to not become tiresome. Radiologie the seventh song brings us back from the four mid tempo tracks (La Caverne, Sangsues, Mon oeil and Le Blizzard). The bass played by Mathieu Cournoyer is very prominent in La Caverne the title track and the ball is never dropped by any of these musicians who ever may take the reins. This album ends off strong with Cheinne Folle putting us back on the dance train going at lightning speeds. The summer is starting off with a bang with a perfect road trip album that keeps you wanting more.
For me it’s nice to see a band who knows who they are and won’t change simply for more attention. The result more people discovering the great French Canadian bands Quebec has to offer.
