Following prior announcements of tour dates in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, Bitch Magnet, which recently reunited for over a dozen shows in Asia and Europe following the deluxe reissue of its entire recorded catalog on TEMPORARY RESIDENCE LIMITED, is rounding out its first US tour since 1990 with an appearance at Neumo’s in Seattle and an additional performance in New York at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory.
These shows will represent the final dates for Bitch Magnet’s 2012 US tour, and tickets for both will go on sale on Wednesday, August 8 at 1 PM Eastern time. As with all other Bitch Magnet US shows, tickets are expected to sell quickly. “BITCH MAGNET is perhaps one of the greatest, and certainly most underappreciated, post-hardcore rock groups of all time.”
- DROWNED IN SOUND
“Every bit as influential as SLINT.”
– UNCUT (five star review)
“A fantastic body of work, as vital and fresh-sounding now as when it was first released . . . BITCH MAGNET made music that’s as good as anything else from this period of American rock.”
– DUSTED (four and a half star review)
“For a group that helped lay the foundation for post-rock, BITCH MAGNET sure as fuck rocked.”
–THE ONION A-V CLUB (A-minus review)
“The influence the group has had on the last 20 years of modern rock is undeniable, inspiring a wide swath of groups ranging from Superchunk to Sunn 0))) . . . as essential to your listening rotation as your favorite album from any of the bands who continually drank from the unique blend of introspective intensity pioneered by these unsung heroes.”
– BLURT
BITCH MAGNET was formed by Sooyoung Park (bass and vocals) and Jon Fine (guitar) at Oberlin College in late 1986, and became a much more viable prospect when drummer Orestes Morfin signed on in the spring of 1987. Between 1988 and 1990 BITCH MAGNET toured the US and Europe and released three landmark albums – Star Booty (1988), Umber (1989), and Ben Hur (1990) – which established them among the top tier of American independent bands of that era. The band’s entire remastered catalog, along with six previously unreleased tracks, was reissued as a deluxe triple-LP and triple-CD set in late 2011 by Temporary Residence Ltd., and was one of the most critically-acclaimed releases of the year. The lineup of Fine, Morfin and Park reunited in November and December of 2011 for a series of shows in Asia and Europe, including a featured appearance at All Tomorrow’s Parties “Nightmare Before Christmas” festival in the UK. BITCH MAGNET returned to Asia for five more performances in April 2012 and will play a handful of North American dates this fall, which will be its first shows on this continent since 1990.
