Dispatch today unveiled the official music video for their single and title track from their forthcoming album, Circles Around The Sun. Currently premiering at VEVO, the video was directed by Eric Heimbold and is dedicated to Larry Perry, a young disabled man who (legend has it) was sent unwillingly into space by NASA in the ’60s. The video features footage of the band and Larry during various point of his life from childhood to adult as well as archived footage from NASA.
“Circles Around The Sun is the legend of our friend Larry Perry, who passed away this past year,” guitarist-vocalist Chad Urmston told Rolling Stone. Whether the legend of Perry’s voyage into space is actually true is still debated amongst conspiracy theorists and his story has been told in How’s Your News, an American television series and feature film that aired on MTV and captivated audiences. The video is a tribute to Larry.
Dispatch – Circles Around The Sun
Circles Around The Sun is the group’s first studio album in twelve years and will be released on August 21st on the band’s own Bomber Records. Produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, Jonsi, The National), the album is an eclectic rock and roll record that delivers on the gutsy storytelling, compelling songwriting, and radiant harmonies that earned the band its diehard fanbase.
Dispatch will perform this weekend at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco and will embark upon the Circles Around The Sun Tour in September, the band’s most extensive North American tour in over a decade. Dispatch will be offering live audio downloads of every show on the North American leg of the Circles Around The Sun Tour within 48 hours of the show ending. Dispatch is Chad Stokes, Brad Corrigan, and Pete Francis. After forming in New England in 1996 and through intense word of mouth and fan loyalty, Dispatch went on to become one of the biggest draws on the live music scene, and arguably one of the biggest independent rock bands in History. The band released their debut album in 1996, an acoustic-driven folk-pop affair called Silent Steeples, on their own Bomber Records followed by 1998′s reggae-flavored Bang Bang. In 1999 the band released their third album Four Day Trials. After a brief hiatus during which various members pursued solo endeavors, in 2004 the group organized a free show in Boston on the Esplanade, anticipating perhaps 20,000 people would turn up. The concert became the largest show in independent music event history (documented in the feature film The Last Dispatch). In 2011 the trio decided to record new music, which led to last year’s Dispatch EP and now Circles Around The Sun.
