CHAIRLIFT ANNOUNCE EXTENSIVE TOUR SCHEDULE WITH PHOENIX AND OTHERS, LATE NIGHT TELEVISION DEBUT ON CRAIG FERGUSON

Brooklyn synth-popsters Chairlift are pleased to announce an extensive headlining tour across North America and Europe with Phoenix, innovative UK up-and-comers Micachu and the Shapes, and several others. The band’s summer is in full swing after several performances at Bonnaroo last month, and their first set of West Coast headlining dates in the LA area. The band also recently made their network television debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Friday June 26, performing “Bruises.”

Live, Chairlift has continued to captivate audiences of all sizes across the US and Europe. Rolling Stone named Chairlift one of “Four Bands to Watch” at Bonnaroo and said, “…far darker than ["Bruises"] suggests: Chairlift craft surreal electro-pop that serve as a base for singer Caroline Polachek’s gorgeous, opera-trained voice.” SPIN gave the band’s debut 4/5 stars and a spot on their “Top 40 Albums of 2008″ list, heralded as “startlingly impressive” with “astute, melodic evocations of plinky new wave…that achieve a timeless emotional resonance.” Venus also said, “Caroline Polachek’s…crystal clear voice was more than plenty to get the crowd going.” Polachek also did a much-revered performance at the festival with MGMT.

In preparation for their extensive touring schedule, Chairlift will be performing at festivals across the US and Europe, including All Points West, Lollapalooza, Latitude and Way Out West. They will also perform with TV on the Radio at the Double Door in Chicago. The tour will kick off in New York at the Bowery Ballroom Sept. 5 and will wrap up in the UK with Phoenix.

CHAIRLIFT TO RELEASE COLUMBIA RECORDS DEBUT DOES YOU INSPIRE YOU ON APRIL 21st

2008 proved to be a whirlwind of a year for Brooklyn’s dream-pop trio Chairlift, culminating with the band’s recent signing to Columbia Records. Chairlift plans to release their Columbia Records debut, Does You Inspire You, through their new label home on April 21st. The album has been remastered and features two new tracks. The first, “Dixie Gypsy” was produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, and is more psychedelic than the band’s previous ventures. The second, “Le Flying Saucer Hat”, is both French and English, lounge and disco, dance and pop, and serves as a great example of the group’s versatility.

After a move from Boulder to Brooklyn in 2007, Caroline Polacheck, Aaron Pfenning and Patrick Wimberly started developing their hypnotic, synth-pop sound. Their first release was an acclaimed 7-inch and digital DL single for “Evident Utensil.” The NME called it “a charming pop oddity,” Exclaim! gave it “immediate cult status,” and RCRDLBL.com deemed it “the best single from a Brooklyn band since like TV on the Radio or something.” Comparisons were also made to The Knife, Of Montreal, and Yaz(!). The B-side of this limited 7″ was a psyched-out remix by MGMT.

The band spent the summer of ‘08 touring the US with Ariel Pink, and In the early fall, Chairlift’s popularity exploded when the band’s catchy pop single “Bruises” got chosen for the colorful new iPod Nano-Chromatic commercial. In October, Chairlift played a well-received series of CMJ shows before heading to Canada to join Yeasayer on a brief US tour. By November, they were in Europe for their first overseas tour. They rounded out the year on the west coast playing a few dates with Vampire Weekend. Chairlift ended the year as strongly as they started, with Does You Inspire You being named one of SPIN Magazine’s Top 40 Albums of 2008.

Does You Inspire You track listing:

1. Garbage
2. Planet Health
3. Earwig Town
4. Bruises
5. Somewhere Around Here
6. Evident Utensil
7. Territory
8. Le Flying Saucer Hat
9. Make Your Mind Up
10. Dixie Gypsy
11. Don’t Give A Damn
12. Chameleon Closet
13. Ceiling Wax

Chairlift recently performed with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and are currently on their first tour of 2009 with YACHT, Sebastian Tellier and Peter, Bjorn & John. They will be performing the following dates at SXSW:

Thurs. 3/19 Other Music Showcase @ Red 7 – 12AM
Thurs. 3/19 Gigotron/Videothing Showcase @ Club 1808
Fri. 3/20 Urban Outfitters Party – 5PM
Fri. 3/20 Under the Radar Party @ Flamingo Cantina – 3:15PM
Sat. 3/21 Filter Magazine Party@ 1PM
Sat. 3/21 This Side Up Sounds Party @ Red Eyed Fly

“Besotted with reverb drenched synthetic lushness, they flit from uncanny new-wave caricatures to beguiling heroin country ballads, nodding deeply to David Lynch’s Angelo Badalamenti-scored oeuvre” – SPIN – Top 40 Albums of 2008

“Aesthetics, ecology and intergalactic millinery: welcome to the dawning of the age of Chairlift.” – NME Radar

“…molasses-covered, electro-funk fantasy of innocence, and it throbs like Prince on sizzurp.” – Blender

“Chairlift possess that rare charm that transcends any self-aware genre or calculated scene…the album’s cool temperature is balanced by the uplift of its exalted riffs and melodies – overall, an inspirational debut.” – Bust

“Brooklyn’s Chairlift sounds like Siouxsie Sioux fronting an ’80s synth band (which is to say, awesome), and their debut provides an incomparably swoon-worthy listen.”- VMAN

“…like a sunnier version of The Cure fronted by Kate Bush…” – Vice

“‘Does You Inspire You,’ is a loopy confection of synth-pop goodness that evokes Yaz and the Knife, with Polachek crooning away like a more chipper Cat Power. – OUT Magazine

“…this trio anchors their roots in the same soil that Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush and the Cure cultivated and called home.” – Venus Zine

“Chairlift’s spooky approach to pop sets them apart from some of their contemporaries.” – Under The Radar “Pleased To Meet You” Artist

After a whirlwind 2008, Brooklyn dream-pop trio Chairlift prepares to embark on a North American tour with electronic avant-pop artist YACHT, who will be releasing their forthcoming full-length, See Mystery Lights, with new label DFA in the late Spring. After making a pit stop at SXSW, Chairlift will continue their tour across the US and into Canada, joining up with Sebastian Tellier and Peter, Bjorn & John.

Chairlift spent a good portion of last year on the road, teaming up with Ariel Pink and Yeasayer for two cross-country jaunts, as well as heading out on a European tour in the late fall, which included dates with Why? Telepathe and Santogold among others. In the wake of Chairlift’s catchy pop single “Bruises” getting chosen for the colorful new iPod Nano-Chromatic commercial, the band ended the year with a bang, with their debut, Does You Inspire You, being named one of SPIN Magazine’s Top 40 Albums of 2008, as well as making many of their peers’ Top 10 lists. Chairlift was also recently voted the “Best Emerging NYC Artist of 2008″ by The Deli Magazine.

Chairlift Press:
“Besotted with reverb drenched synthetic lushness, they flit from uncanny new-wave caricatures to beguiling heroin country ballads, nodding deeply to David Lynch’s Angelo Badalamenti-scored oeuvre” – SPIN – Top 40 Albums of 2008

“Aesthetics, ecology and intergalactic millinery: welcome to the dawning of the age of Chairlift.” – NME Radar

“Brooklyn’s Chairlift sounds like Siouxsie Sioux fronting an ’80s synth band (which is to say, awesome), and their debut provides an incomparably swoon-worthy listen.”- VMAN

“Chairlift’s music is itself a portal into the band’s imaginative psyche where ambiguous sonic shapes hide under a cloak of reverb and sanguine synth lines dance over decadent vocal harmonies.” – The Deli Magazine
