Batman: Arkham City – The Album will be released in conjunction with the highly anticipated forthcoming videogame Batman: Arkham City. Featuring 11 new original tracks, Batman: Arkham City – The Album will be released on October 4th, two weeks prior to the game’s North American release on October 18th. The Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition of the game will include a download code for the album along with additional bonus content.

The artists featured on Batman: Arkham City – The Album approached their contributions to the album with their own unique interpretations of the stories surrounding Batman. The result is an eclectic mix of dynamic, atmospheric songs for an album that will appeal to fans of both the artists and Batman: Arkham City. Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez said, “I write in a very conceptual format with the stories that surround Coheed and Cambria, but Batman has a much larger, defined history and rules that go along with it. My goal was to find universal themes from Batman’s existing history to help give the lyrics legs and dimension so that the song could live within that world.”

Leading into the band’s homecoming, CD release show at Glasslands in Brooklyn, NY on 6/29 and in honor of the beginning of summer and summerlove, New York cult-favorites The Shivers have made their latest album, More, which is out via Silence Breaks, available as a free download over at The Awl.

The site has praised the Queens, NY natives, writing in a recent profile that that lead singer Keith Zarriello “writes stuff almost no one writes well anymore: dense, intelligent three- and four-minute rock songs that feel vital and necessary. For The Shivers, More was a liberating labor of love reflecting influences from rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues, folk, and everything in between. Using every dime they’d saved, Zarriello and Schornikow traveled to Manchester in the Spring of 2010 to record their latest record in an entirely analog studio. Over five days, the two worked tirelessly, capturing the tracks they had worked on in the small church in Queens where the band practices. The end result was More, an album that runs the gamut of American rock ’n’ roll, delving into everything from gritty Lou-Reed-inspired rock to the swaggering soul of Nina Simone. Starting with the brief piano elegy “My Mouth Is For My Love,” More segues quickly into “Irrational Love,” a bouncy organ-driven rock track with a chorus that sounds like it was plucked from 1966. The album teeters between the upbeat pop of tracks like “Used to Be” and “I Want You Back” to the heartsick, Leonard-Cohen-inspired ballads like “Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars” and “Love Is In The Air.” The album closes with the record’s title track “More,” a slow-building confessional that serves the record’s triumphant last call. It’s an apt end for a record that sounds like an apologetic love note, written on barroom cocktail napkin.

Hailing from Queens, NY, Keith Zarriello began writing music as The Shivers started back in 2001 and has spent the last ten years mining the depths of American music, developing a songwriting style that ranges from earnest, heartbroken ballads to ’60s garage rock revival. In 2004, Zarrellio released Charades, which featured the much lauded track “Beauty,” which earned universal praise from the likes of Pitchfork and The Guardian, and would end up being named Gorilla Vs Bear’s thirteenth best song of the decade. The album also caught the ear of an Australian, classically-trained church organist named Jo Schornikow, who joined the band as a full-time member that year. With Schornikow adding a delicate counterpoint with her piano and keyboard flutters, The Shivers spent the next six years touring aggressively in the U.S. and the U.K., and releasing a grand total of four albums, leading up to the ultimate release of More this year.

Ki:Theory (a.k.a. Joel Burleson) is a recording artist and producer who walks the tightrope between electronic and indie/alternative rock. Ki:Theory has also lent his adventurous sound to remixes for Daft Punk, Queens of the Stone Age, Ladytron, and Brazilian Girls among others. Having already rocked Bonnaroo and djed for Betsey Johnson’s during NYC fashion week, Ki:Theory has returned to the studio to work on new material. Today, May 24, he has released the single for “Holiday Heart.” For the B-side, he teamed up with Holy Fuck for a remix of UNKLE’s track “Natural Selection” which features The Black Angels.

“Holiday Heart” has a bright vocal melody, skittering beat, and an instantly memorable hook with something a little darker brewing beneath the surface. “(Holiday Heart) is actually a medical condition you get when you’ve been hitting the whiskey and summer sausage a little too hard (commonly around the holidays). I’ve always thought it makes a great metaphor for ‘to much of a good thing.”, explains Burleson. The b-side is an Olympian collaboration between Ki:Theory, UNKLE, Holy Fuck, and The Black Angels. “Natural Selection” is such a great song to start. I’m a huge fan of UNKLE, The Black Angels, and Holy Fuck. I did a remix for UNKLE once before [2007’s “Hold My Hand”], so getting asked to contribute to something all these great artists had collaborated on was just phenomenal. Holy Fuck had already laid some really nice textures and ambient soundscapes for the remix so getting in there with big drums and some leads seemed like a cool direction.”, says Burleson.

Ki:Theory has also recently contributed a remix of Daft Punk’s “The Son of Flynn” to Daft Punk/Tron: Legacy remix album “Reconfigured”. His song “Arms for Legs” is also featured alongside Sleigh Bells and Silversun Pickups in the trailer for John Singleton’s new film “Abduction”. This month, his remix of the song “Angelica” is also featured on the “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” soundtrack by Rodrigo y Gabriela with Hans Zimmer.

Swedish DJ/Producer Johan Agebjörn (Sally Shapiro) has released the video for “The Last Day of Summer” featuring Ercola and British electro-pop artist Queen of Hearts. The track is taken from his recently released debut album, Casablanca Nights on Paper Bag Records. Agebjörn will release the single for “The Last Day of Summer” on May 31 featuring remixes by Le Matos, Le Prix, Dreamtrak and Ercola.

Styled by Oliver Vaughn, the video depicts Queen of Hearts in a top notch array of high end couture. She is featured in looks by haute couture German designer Furne One, Tomasz Starzewski, who made some of the most famous dresses for Princess Diana, Rachel Freire,who has designed pieces for massive artists such as Rihanna, Britta Kjerkegaard, one of the most established couture and bridal designers in London, and upcoming designer Ksenia G.

The full length album Casablanca Nights, features collaborations with CFCF, Steve Moore (Lovelock, Zombi, Miracle), Sally Shapiro, Fred Ventura, Lake Heartbeat, Le Prix, Many vocals and instrumentations were recorded everywhere from Montreal to London, and Pittsburgh to Milan, while mastermind and producer Johan Agebjörn was back in Sweden, putting together the pieces.

Few bands can make you instantly recall your favorite summer. Your first kiss. The first time you snuck out of the house.

In Bergen, Norway, Razika, comprised of four precocious 19-year-old girls, have discovered how to conjure these emotions, channeling a mix of innocence and rebellion, romance and heartbreak, and gift-giving and gun-slinging into their debut album Program 91 (out August 16 on Smalltown Supersound). Formed in 2005 and named after a code word used by the band to describe a cute guy, Marie Amdam, Maria Råkil, Marie Moe and Embla Karidotter Dahleng have been childhood friends since the age of 6, discovering their parents’ rock records before delving into punk as early teenagers. The album is a glorious contradiction; an exhilarating mix of ska, Riot Grrl, 60s girl groups, post-punk and upbeat, C86 pop that would make Phil Spector, The Specials and The Raincoats proud.

Influences aside, Program 91 finds the perfect middle ground between late-night, detached cool and youthful ebullience. “Nytt Pa Nytt” (“New on New”) and “Middelalder” (“Middle Ages”) recall the B-movie, Spaghetti Western ska of The Specials and The English Beat, while “Taste My Dream” and “Aldri” (“Never”) revel in ska-pop, despite a heartfelt longing in Amdam’s vocals. Elsewhere, the appropriately titled “Youth” is a light, airy summertime track that would go well alongside your Peter, Bjorn and John albums. On “Why We Have to Wait,” Razika’s cover of 1960s Norwegian pop group The Pussycats, Amdam sings, “Why we have to wait so long/People say we’re far too young.” Judging by the dexterity and maturity inherent on every song of Program 91, no falser words have ever been uttered.

First came the news of Digitalism’s first full-length album in four years, and now the band has is thrilled to announce that they’ll be bringing their live show to the U.S. this summer, where the band will be headlining the HARD Summer Tour! This year’s HARD Summer Tour will be the second annual installment of the traveling festival, which brings together some of the biggest names in electronic music. The tour will hit fourteen markets across North America, including a stop at the World Electronic Music Festival in Toronto.

The latest band that gets the hot Neon Gold label treatment is Australia’s Strange Talk, who will be releasing their Strange Talk EP on May 2nd. This EP marks Neon Gold’s first ever vinyl and CD release (to this point there have only been vinyl Neon Gold releases). The last few months have seen Strange Talk flex their musical muscle as a live act, honing their show opening for the likes of The Rapture, Neon Indian and Marina and The Diamonds.

Strange Talk pair considerable musical talents from disparate backgrounds – with vocalist/producer Stephen Docker immersed in the classical world, playing violin for the Australian Youth Orchestra. Bassist/producer Gerard Sidhu was crafting house and electro as well as a regular fixture on the Melbourne DJ circuit. With inspirations as strong as they are varied, the guys set about months of intense songwriting, setting their targets on a sound as original as it is accomplished.

Coming off like the perfect hybrid of Friendly Fires and Phoenix with a bit of that Down Under electro touch thrown in for good measure, Strange Talk are one of the most polished and exciting new acts to emerge. Fully equipped with an arsenal of stadium-ready anthems, “Climbing Walls” is all shimmering synths, cascading bass surges and expert delay pedal use, while next single “Eskimo Boy” shines as the bands flagship anthem, churning synths and heavy basslines slowly building up to the kind of dancefloor-swallowing breakdown Neon Gold dreams are made of. Elsewhere, “Is It Real” and “We Can Pretend” beg to be blasted with the top down on the open roads of summer as producer Eliot James (Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party), earns his 2011 Music Producers’ Guild Breakthrough Producer of the Year award with some of his finest work yet.
