DIIV DROPS “HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN?” VIDEO ON YOUTUBE

TOUR W/ UNKOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA + NXNE + RECORD RELEASE SHOW

OSHIN DUE JUNE 26 FROM CAPTURED TRACKS

Following the success of recent singles “Sometime”, “Doused” , and “How Long Have You Known?” (All three earned Best New Track from Pitchfork) you may be asking yourself, what kind of drugs do I need to take to make music that good? Is it really that magical ratio of one part THC and two parts MDMA? Well, the music video for “How Long Have You Known?” intricately details the making of that special drug. Just don’t try this at home kiddos. Watch the Cole play mad scientist in YouTube spotlight video for “How Long Have You Known?” here.

Recently inked to the uber-reliable Captured Tracks imprint, DIIV created instant vibrations in the blog-world with their impressionistic debut “Sometime”; finding it’s way onto the esteemed pages of Pitchfork and Altered Zones a mere matter of weeks after the group’s formation.

Enlisting the aid of NYC indie-scene-luminary, Devin Ruben Perez, former Smith Westerns drummer Colby Hewitt, and Mr. Smith’s childhood friend Andrew Bailey, DIIV craft a sound that is at once familial and frost-bitten. Indebted to classic kraut, dreamy Creation-records psychedelia, and the primitive-crunch of late-80′s Seattle, the band walk a divisive yet perfectly fused patch of classic-underground influence.

One part THC and two parts MDMA; the first offering from DIIV chemically fuses the reminiscent with the half-remembered building a musical world out of old-air and new breeze. These are songs that remind us of love in all it’s earthly perfections and perversions.

A lot of DIIV’s magnetism was birthed in the process Mr. Smith went through to discover these initial compositions. After returning from a US tour with Beach Fossils, Cole made a bold creative choice, settling into the window-facing corner of a painter’s studio in Bushwick, sans running water, holing up to craft his music.

In this AC-less wooden room, throughout the thick of the summer, Cole surrounded himself with cassettes and LP’s, the likes of Lucinda Williams, Arthur Russell, Faust, Nirvana, and Jandek; writings of N. Scott Momaday, James Welsh, Hart Crane, Marianne Moore, and James Baldwin; and dreams of aliens, affection, spirits, and the distant natural world (as he imagined it from his window facing the Morgan L train).

The resulting music is as cavernous as it is enveloping, asking you to get lost in it’s tangles in an era that demands your attention be focused into 140 characters.

Since that fateful summer, the band have waged a full throttle attack on the nation’s venues, where the mellow, sometimes melancholic vibes of those early transmissions morph into a manic, crashing thing, providing an apt preview of DIIV’s debut LP Oshin due on Captured Tracks on June 26th.

DIIV has also just announced new tour dates including NXNE and their record release show in Brooklyn. A rotating cast of characters including Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Killer Mike, Frankie Rose, Spectrals, Grimes, and Wild Nothing are accompanying DIIV on various tour dates. Check out all the stops below and make sure to get off the couch when they come through your town!

Seattle-based Beat Connection has debuted “The Palace Garden, 4am,” the first single off of their debut LP, The Palace Garden, out June 19 with Moshi Moshi / Tender Age. This single follows the album’s expansive track ‘Think/Feel’, an early introduction to the album which The FADER dubbed, “a song that’s easy to swallow but suddenly expansive the more you get into it” – a fitting description for this album as a whole. Beat Connection will appear at Sasquatch Music Festival this Sunday May 27th, two weeks before launching their first headlining North American tour with White Arrows. The band performed at SXSW this year, after touring with STRFKR this past fall where they played to sold-out rooms and earned rave reviews for their fantastic live set. Beat Connection will revisit these markets and more, ushering in the summer with an LP that finds the group meditating on the idea of unattainable beauty, an idea that encases magical evenings, flooding happiness, and heavy regrets.

The group began when members Jordan Koplowitz and Reed Juenger met in 2008 as freshmen at the University of Washington and started making late-summer-appropriate house music in Garageband. Crafting dorm-room beats and venturing into DJing gigs, together they worked towards their last year’s Surf Noir EP, which received accolades from Pitchfork, KEXP, Death + Taxes, The Seattle Times and The Seattle Weekly, deeming them “Best New Band of 2011.” With the recent addition of Tom Eddy as lead vocalist, and drummer Jarred Katz, Beat Connection is ready to hit the road as a full band.

FRESH OFF THE ROAD WITH FUN. AMAZON PROCLAIMS “FEMALE DOCTOR” THE #2 BEST SONG OF 2012 SO FAR

Miniature Tigers continue their busy year with the announcement of a new batch of Summer tour dates. Kicking off at the end of July, the headline run will hit New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and more in support of the band’s latest album, Mia Pharaoh (Modern Art/ILG). Out earlier this year, the brilliant abstract-pop record has received overwhelming acclaim, including Rolling Stone, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, Nylon, and more. Likewise, Amazon recently proclaimed their song “Female Doctor” as the #2 Best Song of 2012 So Far.

The announcement of these new dates comes just after the end of a successful cross-country tour with fun. Prior to that, Miniature Tigers headlined a sold-out nationwide tour with their Modern Art label-mates Geographer and The Chain Gang of 1974.

Praise for Miniature Tigers and Mia Pharaoh:
“They [Miniature Tigers] have a really ethereal way of translating music – actually, they have a very different approach to our “You Got Me” song [during our session with Red Bull's Soundclash] that I never thought of in the fifteen years I’ve been playing it, so I told those guys, ‘the second we are done with the Soundclash I’m gonna steal all of your arrangements for like all of our songs.’ Never once did I ever think to reinterpret it the way that they reinterpreted it.” – drummer ?uestlove of The Roots

“Album three [Mia Pharaoh] opens with a pair of curveballs, the horndog electro-disco fantasies “Sex on the Regular” and “Female Doctor.” The lyrics are pure R. Kelly kitsch (“I’m your secret/You can take me out and play me like a saxophone”), but the tunes are as sneakily hummable as ever, and frontman Charlie Brand makes a surprisingly decent Romeo.” – Rolling Stone

“What I like about them is that they could probably be a very successful, standard-issue indie-rock band aping Death Cab or Grizzly Bear or Vampire Weekend, but they’re too restless and busting with ideas.” -SPIN

“Wedged between a dreamy throwback sound and rapid-fire backing harmonies, Brand [lead singer Charlie Brand] carries a degree of self-seriousness, lending nuanced shades of gray to an otherwise chipper mood.” – NPR

“…if Shakespeare’s Romeo had been in a band, Brand’s vocals would have come out his mouth. A total loverboy voice…” – The Huffington Post

“Miniature Tigers are getting bigger…Their new album [Mia Pharaoh] gets a little bit racier than previous fare (see: ‘Sex on the Regular’) and is meant to shock listeners…” – Interview Magazine

MINIATURE TIGERS TOUR DATES:
July 27 – Musica – Akron, OH
July 28 – MOTR Pub – Cincinnati, OH
July 29 – Wicker Park Fest, North Stage – Chicago, IL
August 2 – TT The Bear’s – Cambridge, MA

In support of the June 26th release of their upcoming new album Ownerless, ATO Records band Everest will take their electrifying live show on the road, touring with Alberta Cross beginning July 5th at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. On the heels of the band’s earlier, highly successful residencies in New York and Chicago, Everest will spend the month of June in Washington, D.C, this time in association with radio station WRNR. Corona Extra will sponsor the residency.

While in the nation’s capital, Everest will play multiple shows, including dates at the Metropolitan, the Avalon Theater and a June 17th acoustic set at Baysox Stadium. The band will also make weekly on-air visits to WRNR.“We’re excited to get back on the road and make new fans in the D.C. area,” said Everest’s Russell Pollard. “When we park ourselves in one city, we really get to know the area but, more importantly, people get to know us.” Additional June tour dates will be added soon, along with a link to a tour page on the band’s website.

The night before the new album’s release date, the band will cruise up I-95 to New York City for a special rooftop album listening party and performance at the McKittrick Hotel, followed the next day by an album release party and concert in D.C. at LivingSocial’s brand new hot spot, 918 f Street.

Formed by Russell Pollard (who formerly played with Sebadoh, The Folk Implosion, and Earlimart), Joel Graves and Jason Soda in 2007, Everest caught national attention with the release of 2010 sophomore album, On Approach. Early last year the four members of Everest set up shop with longtime friend and musical compatriot Richard Swift at his National Freedom studios in Cottage Grove, Oregon. After several weeks of recording, the band returned to L.A. and enlisted Rob Schnapf (known for his work with Beck, Elliott Smith, and Foo Fighters) to produce additional recording sessions. The result is Ownerless, the band’s most potent set of songs to date.

ABOUT GARBAGE
After forming in Madison, WI, Garbage released their self-titled debut album in 1995 and rode a wave of visually arresting, female-fronted alternative rock bands. The album spawned the hit singles “Stupid Girl” and “Only Happy When It Rains” and was certified double platinum in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The band won the Breakthrough Artist Award at the 1996 MTV Europe Music Awards, and was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy® Award. Their second album, Version 2.0, was released in 1998 and topped the charts in the United Kingdom. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. 2001′s Beautiful Garbage was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 10 Albums Of The Year. In 2005, Garbage released Bleed Like Me, earning the band its highest chart position with a No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. In 2007, the band released a retrospective collection called Absolute Garbage. Garbage has sold over 12 million albums worldwide. They have performed in over thirty-five countries and will tour extensively worldwide in support of this new release.

The Staves will make an appearance at SASQUATCH this Sunday, May 27th while on the North American Bon Iver tour.
They will also perform at Bonnaroo (June 10).

The Staves have been touring relentlessly this year, having already supported The Civil Wars in the US in January, and having recently concluded Communion’s ‘Austin to Boston Tour’ with Ben Howard following a successful debut trip to Austin’s SXSW Music Festival. They have gotten amazing reviews (a few quotes below) and incredible response from fans. They’ve actually been able to silence the entire crowd nearly every show, a huge feat for an opening band.

Their musical evolution has been a slow, steady process; an adventure that began in the stew of family car journeys, sing-alongs and squabbles over the stereo, and immersed in the music of artists like Feist, Fleet Foxes, Simon & Garfunkel, Buffalo Springfield, and Motown. Legendary producers Glyn and Ethan Johns (whose combined credits include the likes of The Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Kings of Leon, etc) found the sisters’ talents so compelling that they both independently tracked the band down. The Staves’ debut album, due for release in late 2012, will be the first record on which father and son have shared production credits.

I’ve pasted tour dates below, along with a streaming link for both of their EPs and a couple of video links of The Staves at SXSW.

*******

“The three-part harmonies of UK folk trio The Staves might’ve been the prettiest part of SXSW’s opening day”
- Billboard

“Part of that Staves’ appeal is their genetic harmonies, and the ease with which their vocals intertwine.”

- Commercial Appeal (Memphis)

“The highlight of the night was the delightfully surprising trio of ladies known as The Staves. Hailing from just north of London, these gorgeous girls absolutely stole the show, pulling a fast one on us and many others in the crowd who were previously unfamiliar with the group.”
- Houston Press

“The three sisters captured the crowd and kept them captivated from the very first time they leaned into their microphones and sang out in perfect harmony…After their short performance, Madison Theater echoed with words like, ‘angelic’ and ‘beautiful.’ Accurate enough. Yet it doesn’t do justice to those three voices.”
- Cincinnati CityBeat

Debut LP ‘Total Dust’ Out July 10th On Polyvinyl/Hand Drawn Dracula

Dusted announces a string of West Coast tour dates with A Place To Bury Strangers in advance of the release of their debut LP, Total Dust, which will be released on July 10th through Polyvinyl/Hand Drawn Dracula. The run of dates begins on June 6th in San Diego, and include shows in Visalia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. Look for East Coast dates to be announced shortly as well as more extensive touring in the fall.

In addition, Dusted have made available a second track, “Property Lines”, off their forthcoming release, Total Dust. The song features guest appearances by Brian Borcherdt’s Holy Fuck bandmates, Graham Walsh, Matt McQuaid and Brad Kilpatrick.

***

After six years of constant Holy Fuck touring, Brian Borcherdt emerged from the tangled cables and broken drum machines with a slew of new songs. Looking to explore a different sound, Borcherdt teamed with producer Leon Taheny (Final Fantasy, Rituals, Bruce Peninsula) and together the pair recorded in a converted garage under the name Dusted.

The resulting album, Total Dust, resides in an atmosphere that is sometimes melodic, sometimes haunting, and always clouded by a fuzzy glow. With string arrangements and half-hidden guitar feedback held together by the occasional tambourine and minimal drum machine, the stripped down mood perfectly complements a collection of songs that are more than capable of standing on their own merits.

Live, Dusted challenges the sonic limitations of a two-piece. Vocals and guitar are expelled through small overblown amplifiers and bolstered by a raucous backbone of live drums, 808 samples, and bass synth. Since their stage debut this spring, the band has performed with labelmates Deerhoof and of Montreal, while back home in Toronto the duo has been playing parties with fellow friends Army Girls, Odonis Odonis, and Little Girls.

Total Dust will also be released as a limited-edition run of 500 copies on 180 gram maroon-colored vinyl, which can be pre-ordered here. In addition, pre-orders of the CD version will include the bonus track, “Centuries of Sleep”.
