MUNICIPAL WASTE PERFORMS S.O.D. CLASSIC WITH FORMER M.O.D./S.O.D. FRONTMAN BILLY MILANO 2009 WASTE THE WORLD TOUR GOING ON RIGHT NOW

Former M.O.D./S.O.D. frontman Billy Milano joined MUNICIPAL WASTE on stage at Red 7 in Austin, Texas on November 12, 2009 to perform a version of the S.O.D. classic “United Forces”.

“S.O.D. is such an important band for the crossover movement, pioneers in fact. We’ve played united forces on and off for over two years while on tour and made the decision a few months ago to retire it. When we heard we had a chance to play it with Billy singing, we knew we had to do one more time and retire it the right way.”

Guitarist Ryan Waste was just as stoked to perform with Billy Milano:

“I was shooting the shit with my buddy Felix Griffin when this big dude comes up to us and sticks out his hand. He looked familiar but I couldn’t place it. Ryan, he said, it’s Milano. I heard Billy lived in Austin and managed a bar down the street but I was still surprised to see him. The Waste had covered United Forces by S.O.D. in the past and it seemed too perfect to play it that night with Billy Milano on vox. After tracking him down back at his bar, Felix and I convinced him to come sing the song. It went over great with the New Yorker’s brand of stand up comedy banter being the icing on the cake.”

Make sure to catch MUNICIPAL WASTE on the “WASTE THE WORLD TOUR” when they hit a town near you.

THE SLITS ALBUM ‘TRAPPED ANIMAL’ OUT NOW – PLAYING LA, SAN FRANCISCO + NYC IN DECEMBER

The Slits will be playing three very special shows this December in support of their first full-length album in over 25 years, Trapped Animal, which is out now!

The Slits became a part of the punk pantheon with songs that even today continue to be meditations on alienation and angst. With Trapped Animal, The Slits remain the same genre bending band they were in their inception, still standing out from the rest of the pack. In the title track they examine how the conveniences that surround us in today’s modern world have also trapped us. Other tracks include “Pay Rent” which focuses on the everyday struggle artists face trying to pay the bills through their art along with the sexually charged “Lazy Slam.”

The current lineup features original members Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt along with Hollie Cook (daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook), Anna Schulte and Adele Wilson.

The Slits known for their infusion of punk and reggae sounds are one of the most significant female punk-rock bands in history. Both legendary and somewhat notorious there is a satiric, tongue-in-cheek quality to their songs instead of a strident peachiness. The Slits are loud, brash, bold and unrepentant. They never compromised their image or stance and their very presence threatened those that considered rock to be a male-only pursuit. In the late 1970’s an early 1980’s the band toured with legendary punks such as The Clash, The Buzzcocks and The Sex Pistols. They went on to influence many generations of bands including The Gossip and Sonic Youth whom they played with in 2007. The Slits continue to expand the boundaries of punk, combining it with various ethnic and experimental sounds and plan to continue doing so for years to come.

Praise for Trapped Animal:

“Proto-riot grrrls now play like seasoned pros. By just about any appreciable metric, the Slits’ first album in more than 25 years is better than their 1979 punk-reggae classic, Cut.” – Spin

“Songs like ‘Pay Rent’ crackle with singer Ari Up’s fierceness, underscoring why acts like Sonic Youth and Lily Allen cite the band as influences.” – Details

“There isn’t one bad song on this record, although the dub-fueled skankathon that is ‘Reggae Gypsy’ is undoubtedly the best. Welcome back, ladies. The world’s far more fun with you in in.” – Alternative Press

“The Slits are back, with a message to all those fashion-punk posers out there–your 15 minutes are officially up.” – Bust

“The Slits don’t sound like other punk bands. Up’s voice posesses the pitch and clarity of a manic opera singer, ranging from quavering bray to a Nico-esque drone.” – V Magazine

THE SLITS LIVE DATES

12/13 Los Angeles, CA @ The Echo

WILDBIRDS & PEACEDRUMS ANNOUNCE TOUR WITH ST. VINCENT RELEASE “MY HEART” SINGLE WITH DEERHOOF REMIX

Wildbirds & Peacedrums are pleased to announce a support tour with St. Vincent early next year, in addition to the release of the “My Heart” single on January 19, 2010 via The Control Group. “My Heart” is Wildbirds & Peacedrums’ first ever US single release, and will be available as a digital EP and limited edition 7” single.

“My Heart” is a wonderfully uplifting pop track that blossoms into a full-blown gospel anthem. Built around singer Mariam Wallentin’s haunting, addictive refrain (“I’m lost without your rhythm”), the song may appear to be directed toward her tempo-keeping paramour Andreas Werliin. In fact “It’s me singing to my own heart,” she says. “About the short amount of time we have, the longing for putting a mark in this world, to keep on existing forever.”

An individually-numbered 7” single vinyl will include the album version of “My Heart”, backed with an unexpectedly bluesy guitar-driven remix by Deerhoof that completely transforms the song. As well as these two versions, a digital-only EP includes a further three mixes. John Eriksson of Peter, Bjorn and John has contributed an intriguing remix in his Hortlax Cobra guise, channeling the spirit of ‘88, Balearic-style. From Portland, Oregon, comes a mix by one of our favorite new artists, AU, which strips the track down to reveal a subtle ambience in among the thundering percussion of the original. Finally you will find a reworked radio version of the song.

YES, THE RUMORS ARE TRUE: SLAYER, MEGADETH TEAM UP FOR “AMERICAN CARNAGE” Co-Headliners to Tour the U.S. Together For the First Time in Nearly Two Decades Testament to be Special Guest Recession-Proof $10.00 Tickets Available in All U.S. Markets

Slayer. Megadeth. Two names synonymous with fierce, crunching power. Two bands whose histories are inevitably intertwined in defining the thrash/metal genre. Individually, their respective prowess and accomplishments are impressive; but together, they’re brutal and unstoppable. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline “American Carnage,” the most blistering, the most explosive, and the most eagerly anticipated mega-tour of the winter – and you do not want to miss it.

“American Carnage” will kick off on January 18 in Seattle, WA for a 26-date trek across North America that will include the six Canadian dates postponed earlier this month. Tickets for most shows go on sale this Friday, November 20. Ticketmaster is offering a special presale for most shows from Wednesday November 18 at 10am until Thursday November 19 at 10pm.

“American Carnage” is the first time that Slayer and Megadeth will have toured the U.S. together since 1991’s epic “Clash of the Titans” tour. To celebrate that and in recognition of the tough economic times that many of their fans are having, Megadeth and Slayer have decided to roll back the price of a chunk of tickets at every U.S. show to the “1991 price” of $10.00. These specially-priced tickets will be limited and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Megadeth has also teamed with iloveallaccess.com to provide an Ultimate Fan Package including premium seats, meet and greets, pre-show parties and more.

In addition, Testament – who was also on the “Clash of the Titans” bill, will be Special Guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, and making this a “must see” metal event.

Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road supporting new albums: Megadeth’s 2009 album, ENDGAME, while Slayer’s World Painted Blood, the band’s 10th studio venture, hit stores November 3. Testament’s The Formation of Damnation: Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010, with special unreleased bonus tracks.

Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S. – first with four explosive dates in June, 2009 across Western Canada – “Canadian Carnage” – marking the first time the bands had shared a stage anywhere in 18 years; and then six co-headlining “Carnage” dates in Australia followed in October.

According to various Canadian press outlets last summer: “It was a night of thrash impossible to trash…” “Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun…” “The two heavy metal heavyweights …went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their ‘A’ game. And the results were anything but pretty – unless you include pretty freakin’ loud and pretty freakin’ awesome.”

Slayer. Few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer – guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo – brings to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer. World Painted Blood offers a Slayer-ized point of view of our world – God’s terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, and a chilling hypothesis of how the rest of the world might view America. The album was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009. World Painted Blood was produced by Greg Fidelman, who’s spent time in the studio with Metallica, the Gossip, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, Slipknot and others, and executive produced by long-time Slayer colleague, Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. One reviewer called the album “the heaviest, bloodiest and best album in almost two decades.” Fans got a couple of early morsels of the brutal new Slayer material — “Psychopathy Red,” a Hanneman song inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who confessed to savagely murdering 56 children, was recorded last October and then leaked online. Then, the King-penned track, “Hate Worldwide,” was made available in July as a limited-edition single through Hot Topic. For “American Carnage,” Slayer’s Tom Araya promises, “no ballads, no acoustic numbers, no slow tempos.”

Megadeth. 2009 saw the release of ENDGAME, what has been heralded as Megadeth’s best album in years. It’s the record where it all comes full circle in a career that has not only set standards in hard rock and metal, but defined them. Megadeth’s signature shredding and rousing lyrics are the hallmarks of ENDGAME, with vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine once musing and making declarations about the world we live in, having named the album after a government document that should strike fear in the hearts of Americans! But that’s Mustaine and Megadeth, using the vehicle of music to shake things up, to make a point and to rattle your brain, literally, figuratively and sonically. Revolver magazine said of ENDGAME, ““One of their best albums.” VH1’s That Metal Show deemed it, “One of the metal albums of the year”, and Popmatters said, ““the record positively scorches with an intensity not heard since Rust in Peace.

Legendary thrash metal titans Testament, whose latest award-winning release (2008 Album of the Year, Metal Hammer’s Golden God Award) The Formation of Damnation, displays them as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever. Lead singer Chuck Billy says, “Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations. We are so proud to be a part of it.”

Slayer and Megadeth are also re-scheduling the east coast leg of the “Canadian Carnage” tour, postponed from this fall.

MUNICIPAL WASTE DRENCHED BUT NOT DEFEATED MASSIVE AGGRESSIVE FLOOD CAUSES VENUE CHANGE

Last night in Houston, TX at The Meridian just as MUNICIPAL WASTE were getting warmed up for their show a freak flood occurred inside the venue. During Goatwhore’s set, a fan decided it would be a good idea to climb on the pipes in the ceiling. Little did he know, that climbing the pipes would pull down one of the pipes causing the sprinkler system to go off and flood the venue.

The WASTE guys were in their dressing room and the fire alarm started to go off. Lead singer Tony Foresta went to the stage to find pipes shooting water everywhere. Everyone emptied out of the club into the street for the time being. The band grabbed all of their gear and brought it out of the venue and into the street.

After an hour of confusion the band and the promoter decided to move the show into another room in the same venue. Once the decision was made, word of mouth got out on the street, and all of a sudden there was a larger crowd then originally had shown up for the flooded show. The band took the stage for a much longer set then usual and played crowd requests as well and in their opinion had the best show of the tour so far.

Singer Tony Foresta had the following to say about flood:

“We tried our best in a weird situation and made it better for everybody. It would not have been possible without all of the kids who hung out, and all of the kids who showed up afterward to make this a show we will never forget!”

Drummer Dave Witte chimed in as well:

“There was no way that we were gonna let something like that stop us from playing. That’s why we tour, to play music and have a great time. It would have been unfair to the fans for us to not deliver! The fans support us, so we regrouped and played an even longer set than normal, it was awesome!”

Guitarist Ryan Waste got caught in the flood as well:

“All I could see was black water pouring from the ceiling. The crowd was still hungry for more so we couldn’t let them down. We had to pull it together and it turned out to be one of the raddest shows of the tour.”
