YEASAYER TO RELEASE ‘ODD BLOOD’ ON FEBRUARY 9, 2010 See Yeasayer Live At The Guggenheim Museum in NYC October 30, 2009

We are pleased to announce the details of the long-awaited second album from New York’s Yeasayer. The album will be titled ODD BLOOD and will be consumable on February 9th 2010 on cd/lp/mp3 formats via Secretly Canadian in North America (Mute for ex-N. America).

First brewed in the frosty hills of Woodstock, NY at the Marotta lair, then transferred to the steely sweeps of NYC, ODD BLOOD took many layers to finalize, but with all things Yeasayer the outcome is spectacular. Filled with Yeasayer’s own take on pop pleasures and experimentation, the band has once again carved its own path through that ice cold glacier that is modern pop/rock.

On October 30, 2009, Yeasayer will play the Guggenheim Museum in NYC and on that night the band promises an extravaganza of excitement and yes, more news. Yeasayer will expand its lighting globe set up in the famed Frank Lloyd Wright rotunda to create a more interactive affair. If you can’t make the show you will probably be entertained by visiting these sites on October 30th for surprise details:

http://www.myspace.com/yeasayer

Now the beans have been spilled…but I guess the most important piece to this puzzle is the music and that is still under wraps. Please stay with us as we slowly unravel ourselves into the ODD BLOOD.

Track Listing

1. The Children
2. Ambling Alp
3. Madder Red
4. I Remember
5. O.N.E.
6. Love Me Girl
7. Rome
8. Strange Reunions
9. Mondegreen
10. Grizelda

KATY PERRY GOES ‘UNPLUGGED’ ‘MTV: Unplugged’ Limited Edition CD + DVD Set Releas Due November 17, 2009

Featuring Unique Live Performances From Program

Set List Includes Two No. 1 Smashes and Two Brand-New Songs

Coming off her third No. 1 single, “Waking Up in Vegas,” multi-platinum Capitol singer-songwriter KATY PERRY is set to put her unique signature on yet another defining signpost of global pop culture, releasing her upcoming appearance on MTV: UNPLUGGED in CD + DVD set in one package on November 17, 2009.

Recorded live in New York on July 22, 2009, Perry presents some of her most well-known songs in a whole new way, performing unplugged re-arrangements of her No. 1 hits “I Kissed A Girl” and “Waking Up In Vegas,” along with the No. 1 video hit “Thinking Of You,” and the popular tracks “Ur So Gay” and “Lost” from her debut album ONE OF THE BOYS, which has now sold five million worldwide.

The MTV: UNPLUGGED set list is rounded out with two brand-new tracks, a cover of the Fountains of Wayne song “Hackensack,” and the never before released original song “Brick By Brick.” The DVD release also features exclusive interview footage.

Individual songs from the program will be debuting during MTV’s morning all-music video block AMTV on November 16th, and the full program, along with interview material, will air on Palladia, MTV Networks’ high-definition music channel, on November 27th, at 9 PM and 12 AM. (http://www.palladia.tv/)

In this appearance, Katy Perry joins a distinguished roster of MTV: Unplugged performers, memorably including Eric Clapton, whose 1992 program featured “Tears in Heaven” and “Layla” and won six Grammys, among them Album of the Year, Tony Bennett, who won Grammy’s Album of the Year for his 1994 appearance, Nirvana and others.

Katy Perry is only the fourth artist in history to have 4 hit singles, 3 of which went to No. 1 from a debut album. Katy’s first two single releases, the seven-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “I Kissed a Girl” and the No. 1 mainstream top 40 radio hit “Hot N Cold,” are RIAA-certified for triple-platinum sales. ONE OF THE BOYS also includes the #1 VH-1 Countdown ballad hit “Thinking of You.” Katy Perry is a Brit Award and MTV Europe Music Award winner, and is also a Grammy Award, MTV Video Music Award and Teen Choice Award nominee.

MUDVAYNE TO RELEASE NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM ON DECEMBER 22, 2009

NEW SONG ‘BEAUTIFUL AND STRANGE’ STREAMING TODAY

MUDVAYNE are back with a self-titled release that will hit stores on December 22, 2009 and leave fans blown away by its eclectic complexity and brutality. MUDVAYNE’S last record “The New Game”, produced two hit singles; the #1 ‘Do What You Do’ and ‘Scarlet Letters’ are continuing to receive massive radio airplay and video rotation on MTV2 and Fuse. One could say that this new album is the hardest, but yet most melodic record, MUDVAYNE has ever created.

Alongside the blistering new tunes. MUDVAYNE have outdone themselves once again with the mind-blowing packaging for the new album. The new album is revolutionizing album artwork design, as this is the first album to ever use black light reactive ink. Every bit of art and text in the packaging of the record will be printed on ink that can only be seen with a black light. Fans receiving this record as a gift during the holiday season, could truly have a “White Christmas” courtesy of MUDVAYNE

Matt McDonough MUDVAYNE’S drummer had the following to say about the new album, “I feel that this album is the best that the band has recorded since our second album, The End of All Things to Come.”

The album will be available in three formats. Those include, the standard jewel case edition, a deluxe edition that comes with a black light, and the super deluxe edition that includes a larger black light, a special edition black light reactive poster, and more.

Check out the brand new MUDVAYNE song “Beautiful and Strange” today at www.mudvayne.com and www.myspace.com/mudvayne for a taste of what is to come on December 22nd.

THAO WITH THE GET DOWN STAT DOWN RELEASES NEW ALBUM ‘KNOW BETTER LEARN FASTER’ ON OCTOBER 13, 2009

“Packs a subtle punch, sweet but not sappy.” – Spin

“Elliptical lyrics, bright guitar work.” – The Wall Street Journal

“Worn down by the endless pitfalls of romance? Thao Nguyen most definitely is not.” – Time Out New York

“Like tea and honey spiked with a healthy shot of whiskey.” – Elle

We are pleased to announce that Thao with The Get Down Stay Down will be releasing their second full-length album, Know Better Learn Faster, on October 13, 2009 (Kill Rock Stars).

“The album is named ‘Know Better Learn Faster’ because you can’t,” explains Thao. “By the time you realize you should, it’s too late. And I enjoy the predicament and the totally devastating, unfunny humor of that.”

Thao and the ever-versatile Get Down Stay Down (Adam Thompson on bass, keys and additional guitar, and Willis Thompson on drums and percussion) return with the follow up to their critically lauded and riotously applauded previous album, “We Brave Bee Stings and All”, the breakout success and best-selling record of 2008 for Kill Rock Stars. With super-producer and friend Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Bill Frisell, Jim James) again at the helm, Know Better Learn Faster perfectly captures the band as their more mature, tastefully raucous, subdued and musically adventurous selves. Honed, trimmed and tightened over the last year and a half of constant touring, the now-trio delivers Thao’s cleverly crafted and emotionally evocative songs with vibrant, innovative instrumentation, incredible energy and a still-acutely-solid sense of what sounds good. The new batch of songs spans all genres and influences, all the while staying faithful to their distinct style, sharp wit, and the infectious and enamoring exuberance of their renowned live shows.

But the band can be serious too. Know Better Learn Faster is in many ways a boisterous, frenzied, and resigned break-up record, and with that territory comes a few songs wherein Thao does not employ her trademark method of juxtaposing brighter melodies with melancholic content. “A few of these are just straightforwardly sad. Sometimes there’s not much room to mince words and music when you feel like shit,” she says.

The diverse and wide-ranging songwriting only helps to showcase the trio’s formidable musicianship: all members have stepped up and expanded their repertoires to fill out the trio’s sound. To further help the cause, the band was thrilled and humbled to enlist album guests Andrew Bird, Eric Earley of Blitzen Trapper, Laura Veirs, Nathan Crockett of Horse Feathers, and close friend and new 4AD artist Tune-Yards.

Know Better Learn Faster is a deeply felt, honestly rendered audit of the end of one or any number of relationships. Thao says: “We are thankful for the opportunity to have explored and then purged all crippling tensions and anxiety inherent in such dramas and hope you enjoy the scrappy by-product.

GITHEAD FEATURING COLIN NEWMAN OF WIRE RELEASING LANDING ON NOVEMBER 10, 2009!

Githead are Colin Newman (of Wire), Malka Spigel and Max Franken (of Minimal Compact), and Robin Rimbaud (Scanner). But who they are is far less important than what they are: a band, rather than just a collaboration of individuals.

The band started in 2004, initially to play as a one-off at the Swim record label’s 10th anniversary event at the ICA. It soon became obvious that there was a natural and rare chemistry that could enable real organic development over time.

Progression was swift. A solid base was fashioned with the band’s 2004 debut, the ‘self titling’ EP Headgit. Written, recorded and mixed in fervent, whirlwind fashion, all in Swim’s London studio, the band used Headgit as a platform on which to build. Its signature hypnotic motorik combined with a fresh, almost raw approach resulted in a set of exciting tracks, some of which remain stage favorites.

The following year, Githead’s debut album Profile brought a bigger, lusher sound, with richer songwriting, and several songs that were taken on the road during the band’s first European tour. As Githead developed as a live entity, the importance of recording live with the whole band became paramount. 2006 saw Githead move to augment Swim’s small studio with Rotterdam’s Metropolis 22 studio for recording endeavors. Employing classic ‘old skool’ recording techniques and songwriting craft, Art Pop was born, and subsequently well received on its 2007 release. More European live dates followed and the band made its North American debut in Canada in June 2009.

The combination of Githead’s growing power as a live band, and the development of work in Swim’s studio and during trips to Rotterdam, has led naturally to its third and best album, Landing, scheduled for release in November 10, 2009.

Landing marks Githead’s fourth release (its third album) since its inception in 2004. In a short career that’s boasted more 5-star reviews than most bands have had hot dinners, Landing is, without a doubt, Githead’s most accomplished recording to date.

On Landing, all the familiar components of Githead’s distinctive idiom remain in place — Newman and Rimbaud’s minimalist guitar patterns, their supremely catchy melodic sense, Spigel’s propulsive bass rumble, Franken’s solid, steady drive — but Landing broadens the band’s vocabulary considerably. Adding depth, texture and shading, Landing’s ten tracks are somehow simultaneously harder, edgier, more expansive, more organic, more hypnotic.

Crucially, though, while Githead might now be speaking a more sophisticated, nuanced language, they never once lose touch with their essential pop sensibility. It’s this unique balance of convention and subtle experimentation that’s always distinguished Githead from so many others attempting to plow the same adventurous avant-pop furrow.

Landing Track Listing

1. Faster

2. Take Off

3. Before Tomorrow

4. Landing

5. Ride

6. Over The Limit

7. Lightswimmer

8. From My Perspective

9. Displacement & Time

10. Transmission Tower

Fuck Buttons will be touring this November in support of their blistering new album, Tarot Sport. The follow-up to their debut album – last year’s critically acclaimed Street Horrrsing – Tarot Sport will be available October 20, 2009 on ATP Recordings.

Fuck Buttons, the duo of Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, recorded Tarot Sport at Rotters Golf Club Studio in London with the legendary DJ, producer and remixer Andrew Weatherall on production duties. The results of this pairing are astounding. Tarot Sport is an album in which Fuck Buttons continue to refine, craft, explore and develop the experimental aesthetic of Street Horrrsing. However, they also take proceedings to another level through a combination of their own ambitious aims and the application of Weatherall’s clear-sighted, rule-defying precision and attention to sonic detail. The seven tracks on the album reflect a new-found complexity of sound and a more layered depth to the recordings; recordings that pushed everyone to the limit of their abilities. As Power says, “I think it sounds a lot thicker than our previous work…our brains kind of went into meltdown”.

One-Day Event Offers six MCLE Credits for Attorneys

Hosted by the New York State Bar Association Entertainment Arts & Sports Law Section and CMJ Music Marathon

John Scher, Co-CEO of Metropolitan Talent, Inc. will deliver the keynote address at the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) accredited Entertainment Business Law Seminar at CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival in New York City on Friday, October 23, 2009 at New York University’s Helen and Martin Kimmel Center for University Life, in the Richard L. Rosenthal Pavilion. The keynote address is part of an all-day seminar titled The New Deal: Music and Film in a Brand New Environment and is hosted by the Entertainment Arts & Sports Law (EASL) Section of the New York State Bar Association, in association with CMJ Network, Holland and Knight LLP and Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.

Mr. Scher, who will speak at the MCLE luncheon, is one of the most well-known and highly respected veterans in live entertainment. He will share his thoughts on the rapid changes in the music industry while sharing experiences of a career that began at age 19 booking shows while attending college. Named Pollstar Magazine’s Bill Graham/Promoter of the year in 2000, Mr. Scher was inducted into Performance Magazine’s “Touring Hall of Fame” and was listed three times as the magazine’s top grossing promoter in the nation.

During the course of the seminar, other entertainment industry leaders will discuss critical legal topics affecting the future of the film and music business including recession-era dealmaking, Internet start-up companies, online privacy rights, ethical negotiation practices, the basics of independent filmmaking and future trends in the film and music industry.

“‘The New Deal’ sums up the business landscape attorneys must understand if they are to help rock stars, filmmakers and other entertainment professionals be successful in a tough economy. This year’s program, including the legendary John Scher, is the best chance for attorneys to stay on top of the complex business, technological and legal issues swirling around the industry,” said Ken Swezey, chairman of the State Bar’s EASL section. “This is one ‘Deal’ that every entertainment attorney should not pass up.”

Joanne Abbot Green, co-owner of CMJ Network Inc. and founder and executive producer of CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival said, “The entertainment industry knows how important the legal profession is to its continued success in these turbulent but exciting times. CMJ is delighted to be a partner in creating a forum for attorneys to discuss the continuing evolution of our industry and the role they must play.”

“Attorneys and business executives from all over the country will learn and share perspectives about practicing entertainment law in this challenging environment. This seminar is a must-attend event that gives lawyers a leg up on the ins and outs of the industry while providing a perfect forum for networking,” said EASL program committee co-chair Rebecca A. Frank.

Lawyers attending the seminar will receive six New York State MCLE credits, consisting of four in Practice Management, one in Skills and one in Ethics, plus a breakfast and luncheon. Both two- and five-day CMJ/CLE registration options also are available to attend all CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival events in addition to the Entertainment Business Law Seminar.
Due October 6th, The List Features Contemporary Interpretations of Songs From A List Of Essential Country Songs Passed On To Cash By Her Legendary Father

August 24, 2009 — New York, NY — With her first-ever covers album The List due from Manhattan Records on October 6th, acclaimed singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash and her band will showcase several of its stunning songs at a very special invitation-only performance event at the Country Music Hall of Fame© and Museum in Nashville on September 15th, 2009.

Cash has accepted this invitation to return to Nashville to showcase The List at an event co-hosted by the Museum and Broadcast Music, Inc. [BMI] as a way to honor her father Johnny’s legacy, as well as to pay tribute to the artists whose songs she re-interprets, and to the songs themselves. Each song was written or popularized by a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame or by an artist who seems destined for that honor. Most of the songs are licensed by BMI.

The List features Cash’s contemporary interpretations of 12 classic songs culled from a list of essential country tunes that Johnny gave her in 1973, and filtered through her own unique perspective. Produced and arranged by Grammy Award winner John Leventhal (Cash’s husband), the album includes Cash’s covers of songs written and/or recorded by The Carter Family (“Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow”), Hank Williams (“Take These Chains From My Heart”), Jimmie Rodgers (“Miss The Mississippi and You”), Hank Cochran/Patsy Cline (“She’s Got You”), Merle Haggard (“Silver Wings”), and Bob Dylan (“Girl From the North Country,” famously done by Dylan and Johnny Cash in 1969).

“I could not think of a more perfect union of entities to launch The List than myself, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which is the repository and protector of so many important treasures and artifacts of my family, and BMI, my performing-rights organization for the past 35 years, which comprises my entire life as a songwriter,” Cash says. “The songs on The List are the very songs that BMI and the Hall of Fame exist to honor, share, archive, and perpetuate. I am thrilled to premiere The List with the family-like support of both organizations, in a city where these songs have never faded in relevancy.”

“Rosanne’s new collection is as cutting edge and deeply personal as anything she has ever recorded,” says Museum Director Kyle Young. “By making them her own, she has made each of these historically important songs sound newly minted. With her quicksilver, drop-dead voice and careful interpretation of these golden standards, Rosanne gives us proof positive that the past has meaning in the present. As we endeavor to preserve the many chapters of country music’s evolving history so that new generations can understand and benefit from its cultural importance, we welcome Rosanne Cash as country-music royalty. We are honored to join BMI in presenting Rosanne’s premiere performance of music from The List.”

“This project combines a great BMI artist, Rosanne, and timeless songs with the blessing of Johnny Cash,” says Jody Williams, BMI’s vice president of writer-publisher relations. “This significant slice of BMI’s repertoire is cast in the most respectful and artistic light, so we’re very proud to be involved.”
