air london & Friends at Electric Pickle, Miami – March 22nd, 2011 Glimpse, Kate Simko, M A N I K, and more!

After a sell out WMC event in 2010 air london will return to the famed Electric Pickle for their third Miami showcase on March 22, 2011. The event will feature a selection of artists from the trans-Atlantic air london European and North American roster, with a live performance by Glimpse and DJ sets from Kate Simko, DVS1, Matt Tolfrey + Maher Daniel (B2B), M A N I K, Robert Dietz, Adam Shelton, Crazy Larry and more.

air london has had a remarkable twelve months, with showcases in New York City, fabric London and at the BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen, as well as releasing six EPs on the air london label. Their artist roster continues to grow, attracting burgeoning young talent and established names, from across America and Europe. In Miami air London will show off the vibrant, diverse and dedicated crew that makes it one of the most exciting collectives in dance music today.

2010 was a monumental year for Glimpse. His well-received debut artist album, ‘Runner,’ on Crosstown Rebels was lauded by international press, and was followed by a release on Cocoon, boosting an already impressive resume which includes Planet E, Cadenza and Buzzin’ Fly. Glimpse picked a hell of a stage to showcase his 909 live performance, the closing party of Space Ibiza, drawing world-wide attention to the unique analog style which he favors.

Kate Simko will be the head talent representing air london’s North American crew. Her DJ set will no doubt combine her unique and tantalizing take on Chicago House and Detroit Techno, a style she’s exhibited at venues as diverse as Fabric, MUTEK and DEMF. Expect to hear some tracks from her forthcoming album, ‘Lights Out,’ which will be released on Hello?Repeat in early April. The classically trained pianist’s original productions have garnered praise from the likes of URB, XLR8R, de:Bug and The Wire, and her new album is sure to draw more critical acclaim.

M A N I K has been on everyone’s radar lately, especially since Josh Wink picked him up for two EPs on his lauded Ovum label, and signed his debut artist album for release in March. A man with an eye for the details and a passion for his craft, expect him to take full advantage of the Miami stage, and prove himself as one of the best up and comers on the market.

DVS1 is one of America’s true musical connoisseurs, with a record collection 10,000 deep you know the man knows a thing or two about a groove. Championed by Berghain’s Ben Klock, his releases have graced Klock’s Klockworks label as well as Derrick May’s iconic Transmat. Further music is slated for release on Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver label, Perc Trax, Synewave and Klockworks in the coming months. Having played venues like Fabric and Berghain, DVS1 will hit Miami with an apt house music set at Electric Pickle.

Expect to be seeing more of Crazy Larry in 2011. He has a new release, ‘Blind Licking,’ due on Hallucination this spring, and he will be launching his eagerly anticipated Time to Get iLL label with his release ‘Glacier’ in March!

Dead of Night Releases New Demos – Featuring Past and Present Members of Shadows Fall, Unearth, and More

Combining modern hard rock and metal with powerful vocals, huge driving guitars, and a massive rhythm section, DEAD OF NIGHT is poised to destroy the current stale world of rock. With a strong focus on the melodic elements of the 80’s, the dark harmonies of the 90’s and a new modern twist, they have teamed up to deliver a familiar, but original sound. DEAD OF NIGHT is comprised of seasoned musicians Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall), Jon Donais (Shadows Fall), Derek Kerswill (ex-Unearth, ex-Seemless, Kingdom Of Sorrow), Jeff Fultz (ex-Seemless) and newly announced singer Jason Witte (ex-Goaded).

Demos of new DEAD OF NIGHT music have recently surfaced. Fans can listen to the tracks at the band’s MySpace and Facebook pages. Recorded by the band and mixed by Chris “Zeuss” Harris, DEAD OF NIGHT conjure sounds of classic metal and rock influences such as early Metallica, Motley Crue, Alice In Chains and even Whitesnake, yet still maintain a modern edge that is clearly heard in songs such as ‘Shades of Grey’ and ‘In Your Hands’.

“There are too many bands out there with one radio-friendly song and nine throw-away tracks just to fill up an album,” states Jason Donias.

“We want our audience to be blown away with each and every song,” adds Matt Bachand. “This project has been a lot of fun as it is quite a departure from what we usually do musically, we are all looking forward to getting on the stage and showing the world what DEAD OF NIGHT is all about.”

British Music Embassy Reveals Initial SXSW 2011 Lineup Featuring Bombay Bicycle Club, Jamie Woon, The Boxer Rebellion, and more!

“The gold standard for events at SXSW” – Brent Grulke, SXSW

“the Embassy is a favorite stop for SXSW badgeholders who want to see, hear and meet musicians and business professionals from across the pond in one stop. It’s paradise for Anglophiles” – Austin Music Source

The UK is the only nation represented at SXSW by its own dedicated venue, Latitude 30, located at 512 San Jacinto Blvd in downtown Austin. Sixty plus bands perform across the week from all four corners of the country, with regionally focused events during the day and British brands hosting the evening SXSW showcases. This unique project returns for a fourth year to again set the stage for some of the UK’s best new bands to play to the world, from the heart of Texas.

THE BOXER REBELLION
The Boxer Rebellion are a band on the warpath! 2009 saw their breakthrough self-released LP ‘Union’ hailed as iTunes Alternative Album of the Year. Their much-lauded LP The Cold Still – produced by Ethan Johns – was self-released globally last February. With a recent TV appearance on Letterman, a ‘Ones to Watch’ from Billboard, and a US tour on the horizon for April, you’d be wise to catch them now before they explode…!

TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS
TEED is a perfect balance of pop sensibility, sharp basslines and dance floor melancholy, and has charmed everyone from Annie Mac to James Holden. In November his ambitious track “Household Goods”, championed by BBC Radio 1, helped make TEED one of dance music’s brightest new talents. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs is also recently signed to Polydor Records and is set to release a debut album this Summer.

PULLED APART BY HORSES
Known for their very frantic live performances, Pulled Apart by Horses are one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the thriving Leeds music scene. Their sometimes angular but mostly aggressive, amp-melting blend of rock riffs and contemporary alt-noise has seen them establish themselves as one of the most essential new acts in Britain.

JONQUIL
From folk-pop adolescence to a fully realized poly-rhythmical pop proposition, Jonquil has already made its mark. Part of Oxford’s Blessing Force collective, Jonquil’s upcoming mini-album One Hundred Suns will be released in the U.S. on Dovecote in early 2011.

BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT
Bright Light Bright Light is singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rod Thomas, who mixes his love of the dancefloor with classic songwriting and has variously been described as “sleek dancefloor glamour” by ASOS and “the boy Robyn in all but name” by NME.

***

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16TH 5PM – 7PM
British Music Embassy Launch
Hosted by BBC Radio 1′s Huw Stephens
* Invite Only *

                                                                                                                                        Bombay Bicycle Club

BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB
A brilliant band from London, BBC are named after a curry house and have come to capture your heart. Their debut album, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose is a collection of American influenced indie rock; their recent Flaws album saw them take an acoustic route to much acclaim.

JAMIE WOON
Soul and samples blend when Jamie Woon takes to the stage. His breakthrough track “Night Air” captured the imagination of many, and helped secure him a place in the highly influential BBC Sound of 2011 list, and his debut album, Mirrorwriting, is due out later this year.

DRY THE RIVER
Dry the River’s live shows (including an early performance at Glastonbury) and intensely beautiful acoustic songs that have passion, emotion and the feeling of being alive in abundance earned them a deal with Transgressive Records.

Compilation Brought To Life By Actress Sophia Bush and Actor Austin Nichols

Includes Brand New Material from Damien Rice, Amy Kuney, and City and Colour

When it comes to providing help to those in need, you can always count on musicians to do their part. To help communities impacted by the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, some of today’s hottest bands have joined together with Global Green USA to release a benefit compilation entitled Gasoline Rainbows, out todaythrough Roark Records. Gasoline Rainbows is available exclusively via iTunes as a digital download.

The compilation was brought together by actress Sophia Bush and actor Austin Nichols, most well known for their roles on the television show One Tree Hill. Sophia and Austin travelled, with Global Green, to Grand Isle, Louisiana, to visit the beaches and see the devastation wrought by the Deepwater Horizon spill first hand. Moved by the stretches of oil along the once-beautiful beaches, as well as the devastation to the wildlife, they decided to help in whatever way they could, and this compilation is a direct result of that.

100% of the artist and label proceeds from Gasoline Rainbows will be used for Global Green’s oil spill response to directly assist the communities, people, and ecosystems impacted by the BP Oil Spill, educate the public, push for more regulation (to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again) and advocate for a greener, cleaner economy.

Gasoline Rainbows includes material by some of the most popular names in music, alongside new up-and-coming talents. The compilation includes music by LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, amongst others.

Not only does the compilation feature incredible tracks by the aforementioned artists, but it alsol contains three brand new, previously unreleased tracks as well. Singer-songwriters Amy Kuney, Damien Rice and City and Colour will all be providing never before heard material for the compilation.

These new tracks are available for streaming from the Gasoline Rainbows myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/gasolinerainbowsbenefit

Ringside To Release New Album Lost Days on January 25, 2011 Album Features Ben Harper, Ozomotli, Brian Bell (of Weezer), and More

Hollywood indie-rock artist Ringside will be releasing their new album, Lost Days, on January 25, 2011.

Although singer and songwriter Scott Thomas played most of the instruments and produced, Lost Days features appearances from an impressive list of musicians and collaborators. Ben Harper is featured on the title track “Lost Days,” a somber rocker with a big chorus, and in the accompanying music video. Ozomotli contributed horns to two songs on the album, “Freedom” and “Good.” In addition to Scott’s own playing, Ben Harper, Kirk Hellie, and Brian Bell from Weezer also play guitar.Joey Waronker, Jim Keltner, Josh Freese, Norm Block, Sandy Chila, and Jon Pikus played drums. Esthero, Res and Graph Nobel sang backing vocals.

The album was co-produced by Balthazar Getty, who also is the beat maker for the band, adding his electronic touches to heighten, intensify, and contrast with the more traditional rock guitars.

It’s been nearly 5 years since Ringside’s debut album was released, and a lot has happened since then, changing and shaping the band and their music. For starters, several months into the promotion of their self-titled debut, Scott broke his back.

Not soon after, he agreed to let his friend Enrique Iglesias cover the song “Tired Of Being Sorry,” which was only beginning to become a radio hit for Ringside. Instead, “Tired Of Being Sorry” became an international sensation for Enrique, and another version was recorded by French singer Nadiya with Enrique. Scott produced both versions of the song, and “Tired Of Being Sorry” has since become the #1 longest-running song on the charts in France. Around this time, Ringside began parting ways with their former record label, also Enrique’s label.

After opening for Ben Harper in Australia on his own dime with nothing but his battered Gibson acoustic guitar, Scott was befriended by fans in Russia who brought Ringside there to play several private parties. Soon, private parties grew to large concerts at outdoor arenas several times a year. Scott has performed Ringside material while being backed by Russia’s National Cossack Choir and performs each Christmas with the Moscow Philharmonic at the historic and prestigious Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.

Ringside set up shop in Los Angeles at Ocean Studios Burbank, where the band recorded their self-financed Money EP and Lost Days. Recording over several years left Scott drained, and it wasn’t until friend and collaborator Jon Pikus began to manage the band that Scott was able to rediscover his muse, allowing him to write and record the final two songs for the album, “This Time” and “Satellite.”

The iconic Lost Days album cover was captured by Scott’s longtime friend photographer Michael Muller.

Scott contributed music to the James Franco film Good Time Max, and is currently scoring and writing songs for the upcoming film LOL.

2010 has been an amazing year for NYC’s The Phenomenal Handclap Band. After performing up and down the United States and packing out tents the world over, they are back in the studio hard at work on their second album. With the band locked away, it only seemed right to put their stellar 2009 debut in the hands of some of today’s finest remixers and see what they came up with. With that, the band is exited to release a Remixes LP via Friendly Fire Recordings on November 16, 2010.

“Listening to these remixes, I’m struck with the feeling that many of our originals have been completely reincarnated in the most literal sense of the term. Whether as a heavy dancefloor burner (the Stallions’ version of “Tears”), a mind-bending krautrock workout (Fujiya & Miyagi’s take on “The Journey To Serra Da Estrela”), or ether-soaked electro (Coco Electrik’s “Dim The Lights”), our wayward songs are finally getting to live the lives we wouldn’t provide for them.” says Daniel Collás from the band.

Introducing the remixers….

1. Tears (Stallions remix)
Stallions, a most excellent collaboration between nouveau disco pioneer Lovefingers and Brooklyn’s Lee Douglas.

2. 15 to 20 (80Kidz remix)
Tokyo’s 80kidz, the explosive 2-person electro unit currently on tour with Major Lazer.

3. Baby (Clock Opera remix)
London born Clock Opera make “frenetic, bleep-ridden synth-rock.” However, they also happen to be quite excellent, hype machine topping remixers for Marina & The Diamonds and Everything Everything.

4. All Of The Above (T.H. White remix)
T.H. White is more than a musician. Outside of making music, dropping killer remixes like this one of “All Of The Above” and producing others, he’s written music for The Sopranos, and commercials for BMW and Reebok.

5. You’ll Disappear (Munk remix)
Gomma head honcho Munk needs little introduction. His 2005 LP “Aperitivo” was a cult classic and judging by the dancefloor reaction to his remix of “You’ll Disappear” it may just well be too.

6. Dim The Lights (Coco Electrik remix)
Brighton’s Coco Electrik continue to make some of the most perfect electro pop out there and here turn “Dim The Lights” into a robotic sleaze fest that would perfectly soundtrack a dive bar in Blade Runner.

7. Give It A Rest (Snack + C’mish remix)
NYC’s Snack & C’mish have been killing it of late on Supra Records and here rework Give It A Rest to maximum effect.

8. 15 to 20 (Den Haan remix)
Glasgow residents and Optimo favourites Den Haan go all HI NRG funk on the album’s lead single “15 To 20″ and turn it into a dancefloor smash.

9. Testimony (Cosmodelica remix)
London club impresario and David Mancuso cohort Cosmodelica rolls out the groove on “Testimony” and gives it a bit of the timeless Loft club magic.

10. Baby (Virgil Howe remix)
Virgil Howe’s take on album favourite “Baby” takes the soul elements of the original and mixes in a little Lover’s Rock, dub and early 90′s downtempo. Perfect.

11. The Martyr (Live KEXP Session)
The Phenomenal Handclap Band, doing what they do best. No messing.

12. The Journey To Serra Da Estrella (Fujiya & Miyagi remix)
And lastly Kraut-funk geniuses Fujiya & Miyagi have krafted “The Journey To Serra Da Estrela” into a full-on instrumental expedition.
