pindrift have announced that they will be embarking on a US Tour this summer that includes a string of dates supporting The Dandy Warhols and a performance at the Monolith Festival in Denver!

The band will be releasing The Legend Of God’s Gun on July 21st through Tee Pee Records.

Promotional MP3: The Legend Of God’s Gun

“[Spindrift has] upgraded the master’s spaghetti sonics for the new millennium on its imminent full-length debut The West…” -Wired.com

“L.A.’s leading practitioners of exotic soundscapes, conjuring up dreamy spells that alternately evoke spaghetti Westerns, psychedelia, dusty blues and Old World klezmer.” -LA Weekly

Mixing the dusty, cinematic soundscapes of old spaghetti-western films with the mind-expanding Psych Rock of modern practitioners like The Dandy Warhols and Brian Jonestown Massacre (not to mention drone forefathers The Velvet Underground), L.A.’s Spindrift makes music that sounds like what one would hear while tripping in the desert on a vision quest.

Originally formed by singer/songwriter/guitarist Kirpatrick Thomas as two bands — an East Coast Rock one and a West Coast version more in line with Thomas’ Ennio Morricone Jones — the frontman bled all of the influences into one and dropped anchor in California, forming a seven-piece band (including former BJM and Warlocks members) to re-create the spooky Old West sounds in his head. The unique hybrid caught the ears of Sex Pistols’ guitarist Steve Jones early, leading him to champion the band on his popular L.A. radio show. Since then, Spindrift has worked songs into movie soundtracks — most notably the indie The Legend of God’s Gun, in which the band’s music plays a starring role — and are currently enjoying success with The West, the band’s first album for the Dandy Warhols’ Beat the World label.

Both haunting and hallucinogenic, “The Legend of God’s Gun” soundtrack takes the listener on a cosmic journey through the desert as a preacher-turned-gunslinger sets out for vengeance.

With a guitar in one hand and six-shooter in the other, neo-cosmic cowboy Kirpatrick Thomas and his current band of banditos resurrect the spirits of Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicolai and combines them with the ghosts of Velvet Underground and Jim Morrison, weaving a dusty backdrop to a story of sin and salvation in the wild wild west.

Tune in tonight (4/27) to check out The Decemberists performing “The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid” on The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 11:30/10:30c)! Colin Meloy and Chris Funk will also sit down for an interview with Stephen Colbert. This will be the band’s first appearance on the show since 2006’s ShredDown where Funk was dubiously defeated by last-minute Colbert fill-in Peter Frampton, and Eliot Spitzer had to recuse himself from the voting after an attempted Colbert bribe.

Check out The Decemberists featured on the cover of the May issue of PASTE magazine! PASTE writes “Hazards is both the most daring and logical leap of the band’s career. It’s an hour-long romp through traditional British folk motifs—ill-fated lovers, shape-shifters, infanticide—buoyed by sludged-out guitars, leering synths and an arsenal of talented guest stars, all pressed, as always, through the bizarre sieve of Meloy’s mind.” You can read the full story online here.

HITS magazine has put their money on The Hazards of Love as the dark-horse Grammy contender for Album of the Year. HITS writes “If there’s any 2009 release that deserves to be in consideration for an Album Grammy, it is The Decemberists and their ambitious The Hazards of Love, a bearer of the classic-rock mythos for the iPod generation.” You can read more here.

Dead Confederate Featured as Yahoo! “Who’s Next” Artist, and more

Added by Major Rock Stations Across the US, Cross-Country Tour with Manchester Orchestra Continues

It’s been quite the year for Athens, GA five-piece Dead Confederate. After bursting on the scene with their critically-acclaimed full-length debut, Wrecking Ball, the band has been touring across the country, currently on the last leg home with fellow Georgians Manchester Orchestra.

In the wake of their television debut on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, as well as being one of Rolling Stone’s “Six Artists To Watch,” Dead Confederate has been chosen as a nominee for Yahoo! Music’s “Who’s Next” User’s Choice competition. The video for their single, “The Rat,” will be featured for a month on Yahoo! Music. The artist with the most votes at the end of the voting period wins and gets the opportunity to perform live at the Yahoo! Music studio to tape a performance and interview. The winner’s in-studio performance will then be promoted for the following month as the feature artist on the Who’s Next? page and the Yahoo! Music homepage. The video for “The Rat” will also be featured on MTV2 “Subterranean” and MTVU, and will be part of FUSE TV’s “Free Music” and “The Worm” programs. Dead Confederate’s brand new video for “Start Me Laughing” was also recently added into rotation at Pitchfork TV.

“The Rat” has been added by major rock stations across the country this week including KNDD/Seattle, KBZT/San Diego, WEQX/Albany, KWOD/Sacramento, WARQ/Columbia and KNRK Portland. The album has reached #34 on the Top 200 CMJ Charts with big support from KEXP. Dead Confederate also did a recent live performance and interview at WOXY.

Dead Confederate is the first artist Gary Gersh, A&R legend and founder of The Artist’s Organization, signed to his new imprint. The band released a self-titled EP in late 2007. The EP garnered immediate attention and the band found themselves opening for R.E.M. at SXSW, as well as sharing the stage with Dinosaur Jr., Yeasayer, the Black Angels, Deerhunter and Black Lips among others. Their 2008 full length follow-up release, Wrecking Ball, was produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead) and has received rave reviews.

“…a raw, howling take on Southern rock that recalls the darkest moments of Nineties grunge.” – Rolling Stone “Artist To Watch”

“Wrecking Ball sounds like Bleach-era Nirvana covering My Morning Jacket. (That’s a good thing.)…Dead Confederate’s alt-country/grunge hybrid doesn’t just feel like a compelling debut, it feels like a compelling new genre.” – The Onion

“atmospheric…sorrowful, searing and Southern virtually in all the right ways.” – SPIN Magazine

“Dead Confederate captures everything you hold dear about rock shows.” – Filter

“…refreshingly direct…a well-put-together debut album.” – The New York Times

“Although southern Civil War soldiers may remain six feet under, Dead Confederate’s sincere versatility drives home rock’n'roll that is damn well alive and kicking.” – Spin.com

The Spinto Band have just returned from their successful month-long European tour and are getting ready to hit North America this week with Frightened Rabbit in support of their brand new release Moonwink, out now on Park the Van Records!

The Delaware six-piece have been keeping busy. The band were invited to perform on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic in November, are doing a WXPN World Cafe session, and were recently asked to perform at YouTube LIVE on November 22nd in San Francisco at the Herbst Pavilion in Fort Mason Center! Part concert, part variety show and part party, YouTube Live, the first event of its kind, will bring forth a live community celebration unlike any other. The two-hour event will begin at 5:00 pm (PT) and will be streamed for a worldwide audience of millions through YouTube at http://youtube.com/live. With celebrity guests, original videos, surprise collaborations and much more, The Spinto Band will be the ONLY live band performing. The guys will be creating some original videos for their YouTube channel in advance of their performance!

Check out the band’s new video content up every week at: http://www.spintoband.com

Spinto Press:
“‘Moonwink’ is the amicably off-kilter sophomore album that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah might have released if they weren’t trying to burn the hype machine that the lockstep bloggerati created in earnest…you can’t help but wink back.” – Filter

“…the hottest record in the world right now.” – Zane Lowe, BBC Radio 1

“‘Moonwink’ brims with jittery melodies and swaggering sing-alongs — the perfect soundtrack to anything,..” – SPIN

“Spinto Band knows exactly how to channel post-adolescent snickers and pre-professional abandon into tight, giddy guitar pop. Sharp, tinkling melodies reveal surprisingly sophisticated songwriting…” – Paste
