MONOLITH FESTIVAL presented by Esurance returns to Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 12th and 13th with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs headlining Saturday night, and The Mars Volta topping the bill on Sunday. The festival debuted in 2007 as the first multi-day, multi-stage festival ever held at Red Rocks – Colorado’s beloved outdoor venue. Monolith was instantly adopted as an indie fan favorite and a staple of the summer festival season.

Each year, MONOLITH hand picks a line-up consisting of fan requests, indie favorites and blog darlings. This year’s line-up, revealed one-band-at-a-time over the past several weeks via Twitter and Facebook, has already generated plenty of buzz. We are thrilled to unveil the line-up in its entirety, which includes everyone’s favorite art-punk trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and progressive rockers The Mars Volta! Joining the 2009 headliners is a deep and diverse roster including Girl Talk, Of Montreal, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Phoenix, DOOM, The Thermals, Health, Ida Maria, WALE, Passion Pit, The Dandy Warhols and many, many more. A complete list of confirmed acts is included below, with additional artists still to be announced. Visit www.monolithfestival.com for ongoing updates.

2009 Monolith Festival VIP Kick-Off Party Announced: Monolith will host two kick-off parties in Denver on September 11. Events will be held at adjacent venues, The Gothic Theater and Moes BBQ. Performing artists include The Cool Kids, Chromeo (DJ), Hot Tub, Boyhollow and more. Kick-Off Party is open to VIP Ticketholders, media and winners of the Southern Comfort ticket promotion.

MONOLITH fills a niche in Colorado’s already vibrant indie music scene, even within a seemingly saturated U.S. festival market. With five stages and premium facility amenities, MONOLITH builds on the natural splendor of Red Rocks and has quickly become a requisite for festival goers and indie hipsters. As Billboard Magazine reviewed, “The outrageously beautiful Red Rocks has been screaming out for an underground/indie-style music festival for many years. Thanks to the tireless work of an elite group of Colorado scenesters, the dream is now a reality.”

CHROMEO GETTING LOVE FROM THE WORLD AT LARGE!

-OPENING SELECT SEPTEMBER DATES FOR THE BEASTIE BOYS
-PERFORMING ON JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE IN OCTOBER
-COLLABORATING WITH HALL AND OATES ON THEIR NEW ALBUM
-HEADLINING UK TOUR THIS FALL

The newest Chromeo LP Fancy Footwork has brought our Montreal synth-funk duo to new heights. Not only has the album been hailed by the industry’s favorite publications, but Chromeo has again infiltrated the YouTube and MTV crowds with their latest video for “Tenderoni”.

The Beastie Boys have requested Chromeo to join them for a few key shows on their massive North American upcoming tour. Chromeo chose to open dates that are close to home, so look forward to seeing them on September 19 to 22, between Montreal and Toronto. Two of these are arena shows where the group will be performing to an upwards of 12,000 fans!
A few weeks later, in mid October, Chromeo will be gracing the stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live. This will be their first late-night national television performance.

The band will also be featured on MTV’s ‘52/52′, which is a new, innovative way for the channel to give unprecedented exposure to indie artists. MTV picks one artist per week, and gives them a collective of 11 hours of on-air time during their chosen week. The footage is spread out between the myriad of MTV programs, and the artist is given creative freedom as to where and how their segments are shot.

And then came the call…in the form of an email from a once-mustachioed guy named John. Indeed, Chromeo’s idols Hall and Oates have asked them to collaborate with them on their upcoming record! Needless to say, the gentlemen are giddy like schoolchildren to be given this opportunity.

After a long July tour supporting Fancy Footwork with almost all dates sold out, Chromeo is ready for all that the world is handing them. With 1,200 fans at the New York show and 1,000 in Los Angeles (including Paris Hilton), the band is already planning spot dates for the fall in the U.S., Canada, Iceland and Russia, and most importantly a headlining tour of the United Kingdom! Once again, let the funk crusade begin.

PRESS ON CHROMEO:
“Footwork’s array of cheese-ball synths, vocoder distortions, and earnest lyrics shimmer with the nostalgic poppiness of Club Nouveau or Wham!, but the gentle wink gives Chromeo enough contemporary edge to escape the fate of, say, Zubaz pants.” – VIBE
“The album’s squiggly analog synth breaks, call-and-response vocoder hooks, and b-boy electro consistently sounds more fun than funny, more danceable than laughable. Footowork may wear its adoration for New Edition’s adolescent, skirt chasing romanticism on its sleeve, but it’s also a fantastic pop album on its own terms.” – XLR8R
“Gold-plated basslines and rhinestone-studded synths. The smoothest, most sincere funk since New Edition” -THE FADER

“Chromeo takes the cake here with a synth-happy exploration of the intersection of dancefloor sultriness, strip-club raunch, and a very pronounced wink.” – VILLAGE VOICE

Will join múm, Bloc Party, Chromeo, Of Montreal, !!!, Bonde do Role and more for a glorious five days of music!

Critical darlings Deerhoof (US), Swedish pop-sensation Loney, Dear and indie wunderkind Khonnor (US) are among the latest additions to Iceland Airwaves 2007. Other recent acts include Danish electro sensation Trentemöller, Canadian next-big-things Plants & Animals; not to mention horde of Icelandic performers such as Mínus, Singapore Sling and Ghostigital. All of them will join previously announced attractions that include Bloc Party (UK), !!! (US), of Montréal (US) and Icelandic legends múm and GusGus for a five-day party in downtown Reykjavík during the week of October 19-21.

Iceland Airwaves: A five-day festival, Iceland Airwaves has been steadily growing since its inception and is now widely considered to be among the highlights of the annual music-festival calendar – with hundreds of journalists and music industry people flying in every year from Europe, North America and rest of the world. As per usual, this year’s bash looks to surpass the previous ones in terms of sheer intensity, with an approximated 170 acts competing for the festivalgoers’ attention.

Reykjavík’s proximity to a plethora of geysers, waterfalls and other natural phenomena that are unlike anything found elsewhere in the world helps earn the festival some of its merit, although it’s main attraction has always been the music. Making a point of always showcasing a healthy mixture of local and international talent, the festival often features bands on the brink of it-dom well before they gain international notoriety (cases in point: The Rapture, TV on the Radio, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah). Iceland Airwaves’ location – in the numerous and infamous bars and clubs of 101 – adds a final touch of charm to the world’s northernmost music festival.

The latest additions: Deerhoof’s latest opus, “Friend Opportunity”, was released to great critical acclaim last January, with many a noted publication awarding the trio full marks for their adventurous, yet melodic sonic ventures. They remain a live favourite for the indie set and their legion of devoted fans grows by the day. Those might also fall prey to the irresistible charm of fellow American Khonnor (Connor Kirby-Long), who’s home-grown 2004 début “Handwriting” saw him lauded as a bona fide genius by the NME among others. His reputation certainly precedes him, and with new music in the works his Airwaves performance is highly anticipated.

Comma enthusiast-slash-one man band Loney, Dear’s fourth long-player (and US début), “Loney, Noir”, hit North-American shelves last winter via SubPop. A hefty, still-ongoing world tour followed and will see the lovely Swede sing his “adorable and fragile” songs for new crowds throughout the year.

Iceland Airwaves has always aimed to present the best and brightest of Iceland’s acclaimed music scene, and 2007 will prove no exception. Festival staff are currently in the process of reviewing the 300-strong pile of musician applications for Airwaves 2007, and will leave no stone unturned in the quest to showcase the best things Icelandic music has to offer. <3 Svanhvít!, Esja (featuring members of Airwaves favourites Mínus and Gusgus) and Motion Boys are among the very promising "Airwaves-virgins" selected to play this year, to name but a few.
