GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS SCORE CHART SUCCESS IN BOTH USA AND CANADA WITH NEW RELEASE, LOST CHANNELS HEAVY ONLINE BUZZ PUTS THE BAND AMONG HYPE MACHINE’S “MOST BLOGGED ARTISTS” AS LEAD VIDEO “PULLING ON A LINE” DEBUTS ON MUCHMUSIC AND MTVU

Great Lake Swimmers continue to reach new heights as their latest album, Lost Channels, debuts at #10 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart in America and #48 on Canada’s Top 200 Album Chart today. The album is also drawing impressive numbers on iTunes, currently sitting at #1 in Canada and #5 in America on the Singer/Songwriter Charts. With the band’s US tour in full swing, they continue to garner ongoing critical praise, radio support and massive blog buzz.

The band has reached “Most Blogged Artist” status on premier MP3 site Hype Machine. The popular blog aggregator has GLS in fine company alongside Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Doves and more. Meanwhile, their brand new video for single “Pulling on a Line” recently debuted on MuchMusic in Canada on March 28 and is set to launch on MTVU in the US on April 15.

Currently playing to sold out venues across North America, the band will make live session stops at both Paste Magazine and NPR’s Tiny Desk series with Bob Bolien within the next week. All the while, radio continues to support the band as they reach #18 on the FMQB Chart and #34 on CMJ Top 200.

Continued critical praise for Lost Channels:

“A spellbinding mix of country-tinged melancholy and a poetic economy that resists saccharin statements, or maudlin indulgence, the ghostly voice of lead Swimmer, Tony Dekker crosses vast oceans of loneliness and undercurrents of heartache to impressive effect… Amidst such up-tempo sunshine there’s moments of an altogether darker splendour.” – BBC

“Lost Channels…dips into new territory, forgoing pretty but plain melodies in favor of more key changes and greater instrumental variety. “Pulling on a Line” exemplifies Great Lake Swimmers’ beautiful simplicity…” – NPR

“With this newest effort, Dekker and company are perfecting an art and adding to their already handsome canvas with weightier, deeper brush strokes” – CHART MAGAZINE

“There are very few voices in this world that cut as deeply as Tony Dekker’s, and if any could fill up a hollow place, it would be his…the Swimmers have done fragile, nostalgia-tinged odes to near aural perfection…” – FILTER MAGAZINE

“Dekker’s songs are about direction, or the loss of it: The light jangling rock of Palmistry wonders about the future; the exquisite hippie folk of Everything Is Moving So Fast, which features the haunting backing vocals of Serena Ryder, has Dekker falling in slow motion against the flow of a world which moves so swiftly. In response, the frightened, cautious speed of Dekker and Great Lake Swimmers is stroked thoughtfully and gracefully. Long may they swim.” – GLOBE AND MAIL

“There’s a breathtaking richness to Lost Channels, as Great Lake Swimmers conjure an abstract, contemporary landscape split between pained defeat and overt optimism.” EXCLAIM MAGAZINE

“Stripped-down music teeming with natural imagery.” – PASTE MAGAZINE

“The band’s songs alternately rise and fall, prickle and soften, offering a comforting yet stirring refuge from the daily grind.” – WASHINGTON POST

“Lost Channels is as haunting as it is organic.” – ALTERNATIVE PRESS

“The group has a gentle, vulnerable sound that is most notable in the high-pitched, aching voice of the front man Tony Dekker, who recalls another Ontarian, Neil Young.” – NEW YORKER

“(Great Lake Swimmers) gives us their greatest effort yet at building a real, start-to-finish album of refined instant classics that is surely emblematic of their continued growth and longevity.” – TORONTOIST.com
