Just recently the indie pop/rock band of Montreal from Athens, Georgia released their new ep, thecontrollersphere. This album is the final chapter of an ongoing trilogy that the band has been working on since 2007. A trilogy that seems that with each album becomes even more bizarre.

If you are unfamiliar with their work, of Montreal’s work can best be described as psychedelic pop with a electronica and glam twist to it. Try and imagine The Beatles, David Bowie and Prince all playing together at the same time, the result would sound similar to of Montreal. Founded by Kevin Barnes, of Montreal provides a unique edge for its listeners to get lost into.

From the trippy album artwork to the zany lyrics, thecontrollersphere will grab your attention from the first track. Once you start listening to it you will get lost in the creative, one of a kind beat that it offers. the controllersphere is a five track EP with the one commonality apparent in each song; a dark edge.

“Black Lion Massacre” has to be by far the darkest of the songs, composed of the sounds of a low menacing clashing along with the most wonderful lyrics that talk about such things as people being slaughtered, peeing on one another, murdering their pets, and gouging out the eyes of both reptiles and mutilated fish, all of which are very fun things to do of course. The tone of “Flunkt Sass vs. the Root Plume” is full of despair and almost trance like. As for the lyrics they are just like that of the rest of the EP, both confusing and amusing. However the tone and lyrics for the rest of the EP are full of shifts in tempo, unpredictable, abnormal, and yet so very catchy. This recent gem by of Montreal is a definite must own.

WARD, CHROMEO, THE DANDY WARHOLS, DOOM PASSION PIT, OK GO, GLITCH MOB, WALE AND MANY MORE

TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT WWW.MONOLITHFESTIVAL.COM

MONOLITH FESTIVAL presented by Esurance returns to Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 12th and 13th with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs headlining Saturday night, and The Mars Volta topping the bill on Sunday. The festival debuted in 2007 as the first multi-day, multi-stage festival ever held at Red Rocks – Colorado’s beloved outdoor venue. Monolith was instantly adopted as an indie fan favorite and a staple of the summer festival season.

Each year, MONOLITH hand picks a line-up consisting of fan requests, indie favorites and blog darlings. This year’s line-up, revealed one-band-at-a-time over the past several weeks via Twitter and Facebook, has already generated plenty of buzz. We are thrilled to unveil the line-up in its entirety, which includes everyone’s favorite art-punk trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and progressive rockers The Mars Volta! Joining the 2009 headliners is a deep and diverse roster including Girl Talk, Of Montreal, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Phoenix, DOOM, The Thermals, Health, Ida Maria, WALE, Passion Pit, The Dandy Warhols and many, many more. A complete list of confirmed acts is included below, with additional artists still to be announced. Visit www.monolithfestival.com for ongoing updates.

2009 Monolith Festival VIP Kick-Off Party Announced: Monolith will host two kick-off parties in Denver on September 11. Events will be held at adjacent venues, The Gothic Theater and Moes BBQ. Performing artists include The Cool Kids, Chromeo (DJ), Hot Tub, Boyhollow and more. Kick-Off Party is open to VIP Ticketholders, media and winners of the Southern Comfort ticket promotion.

MONOLITH fills a niche in Colorado’s already vibrant indie music scene, even within a seemingly saturated U.S. festival market. With five stages and premium facility amenities, MONOLITH builds on the natural splendor of Red Rocks and has quickly become a requisite for festival goers and indie hipsters. As Billboard Magazine reviewed, “The outrageously beautiful Red Rocks has been screaming out for an underground/indie-style music festival for many years. Thanks to the tireless work of an elite group of Colorado scenesters, the dream is now a reality.”
