OK Go, The Most Downloaded Band In History, Partners With Samsung On “Last Leaf,” An Animated Video, Premiering On Myspace Homepage in the US & UK Tomorrow, November 9th

Band Appears In Special Segment Of NBC’s “TODAY” On November 18th Headlining Tour Wraps Up On November 27th At Los Angeles’ Club Nokia OK Go Wins Two UK Music Video Awards

(Los Angeles, CA) “Last Leaf,” the latest video from OK Go, will premiere tomorrow, November 9th, on the homepage of Myspace.com at10:30 a.m. EST. Fans can check it out at www.okgo.net/lastleaf. The animated clip is a significant departure from OK Go’s trademark one-take, live action videos, which have won numerous honors, including a GRAMMY®, a Webby, and, most recently, UK Video Music Awards for “Best Rock Video” and “Best Video of the Year”for “This Too Shall Pass (Rube Goldberg Machine version).” OK Go’s clips have been viewed more than 125,000,000 times online.

NBC’s “TODAY” show has tapped the band for a special segment in its upcoming weeklong series of reports on YouTube phenomenons. OK Go will appear on “TODAY” next Thursday, November 18th, and they’ll debut a video they recently shot with the hosts of the show.

The “Last Leaf” partnership began with a simple question from Samsung® executives to OK Go: “What’s your next project?” OK Go expressed interest in working with Nadeem Mazen and Ali Mohammad, founders of Serious Business Design, on an animation idea they’d been dreaming up, and after some dialogue, Samsung turned OK Go loose with its latest innovation in premium camera technology, the Samsung NX100 camera. Each second of the video is a sequence of fifteen Samsung NX100 photographs, which OK Go shot with Mazen, Mohammad and a crew of interns. The band then worked closely with Geoff Mcfetridge, founder of Champion Graphics, on the hand-drawn animation. Mcfetridge is an award-winning, multidisciplinary artist whose work encompasses logos, poetry, animation, graphics, large-scale sculpture, textile and wallpaper, and paintings. His work is in the collection of the SF Museum of Modern Art and has been exhibited internationally, including the Cooper Hewitt National Design Biennial and the California Design Biennial. Throughout the process, behind-the-scenes footage was captured with a Samsung NX100. You can check out the documentary episodes at:

www.cre8yourworld.com

“Last Leaf” will be embeddable, like each of the videos created by the band to accompany songs from its latest album, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, which debuted in the Top 40 of The Billboard 200. It’s been hailed by Spin as “ambitious” and named by MTV as “the best album of the year (so far).”Of the Blue Colour of the Sky Extra Nice Edition, which features the original album and a second disc packed with alternate versions, demos and covers, was released last week.

The new video comes on the heels of OK Go’s “White Knuckles” clip, which has been viewed over seven million times online since its world premiere on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” “White Knuckles” is a Top 20 hit at MTV, mtvU, MTV 2, VH1 and Much Music. The clip features OK Go performing a synchronized routine with trained dogs provided by Talented Animals (http://www.talentedanimals.com). Fans can purchase the “White Knuckles” clip at the band’s website. OK Go is donating a portion of net proceeds from these sales to the ASPCA, specifically for the support of animal rescue.

OK Go recently partnered with Indaba and Rock Band Network on a remix contest for “White Knuckles.” Weekly winners were selected by Dave Fridmann, who produced Of the Blue Colour of the Sky. Thegrand prize winner – “The Big Robot” of the United Kingdom – will have their remix mastered and made available for download in Rock Band and receive a gaming console, a copy of Rock Band 3 and a set of Rock Band instruments. You can check out the winning remix at:

http://www.indabamusic.com/submissions/show/31225

The band also played a special acoustic set at the opening night celebration of “YouTube Play. A Biennial of Creative Video,” an exhibit of the most groundbreaking video work being created and distributed online during the past two years. OK Go turned the darkened room at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City into a veritable planetarium, performing atop 25-foot-high ladders, attired in suits with fiber-optic lights sewn into them to approximate twinkling stars.

OK Go – comprising Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka and Andy Ross – is in the midst of a headlining tour, which concludes at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on November 27th. The band will also open for Metric on three Canadian dates this month and play a series of radio station holiday shows in December.

R.E.M., Jackson Browne, the Roots, OK Go, Moby, Bonnie Raitt, Rosanne Cash, Writers Guild of America, East Musicians and Writers Urge FCC to Act Immediately to Secure Free and Open Internet

Bands Mobilize Fans for “Net Neutrality” via Twitter and Facebook

Burbank, CA – Some of the biggest names in music and the Writers Guild of America, East are urging the White House and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to act immediately to secure Net Neutrality and protect the future of music. The diverse list of musicians include: Jackson Browne, R.E.M. the Roots, Rosanne Cash, OK Go, Moby, Bonnie Raitt and Jamie Kitman, the manager of OK Go, They Might Be Giants, Mike Doughty, and Mike Viola.

The artists are banding together due to the threat of a corporate takeover of the Internet by big telecoms such as Verizon and Google. Critics contend that a potential takeover could have severe adverse ramifications for the artistic and creative atmosphere that the Internet has always provided. “That’s why we support efforts to preserve Net Neutrality for the benefit of innovation and free expression — and urge the FCC to act immediately to ensure that the Internet is kept free and open,” states the letter.

With the FCC set to meet tomorrow in Washington, the musicians have aligned with MoveOn.org Political Action and Future of Music Coalition (FMC) in sending a message to the Commission – “The future of the Internet depends on decisions made today, as does the future of music. We believe that Net Neutrality is the best and only way to ensure that both futures remain bright.” Since 2007, FMC’s Rock the Net campaign has served as a platform for artists and independent labels to make their voices heard on this crucial issue. The full text of the letter is below.

“It’s great to have the voices of musicians at the forefront of this fight, since their creativity is threatened by any move to restrict Internet freedom,” said Justin Ruben, Executive Director of MoveOn.org. “And it’s a sober reminder that a pay-to-play Internet will have dire consequences for all reaches of American lives and what we love.”

Many of the artists are posting on Twitter and Facebook, urging fans to call the FCC. At this same link, fans can also watch a video of a speech in which Senator Al Franken describes the Net Neutrality debate as, “the First Amendment issue of our time.”

Dear FCC Commissioner Julius Genachowski:

The Internet has facilitated an explosion of creativity and commerce, offering unprecedented opportunities to musicians and music entrepreneurs. Due to the open structures of the Internet, musicians and other creators and innovators can compete on an equal technological playing field with the biggest companies. The result is a blossoming and legitimate marketplace that compensates creators while rewarding fans with access to an incredible array of music.

None of this could have happened without Net Neutrality — the principle that protects the open Internet. That’s why we support efforts to preserve Net Neutrality for the benefit of innovation and free expression — and urge the FCC to act immediately to ensure that the Internet is kept free and open.

As artists, we are encouraged that the Commission recognizes the importance of net neutrality. We encourage you to apply its core principles to any and all broadband points of access, including the wireless space. We also encourage you to consider the perspectives of musicians, who depend on an open Internet to compete in a crucial marketplace and express ourselves creatively.

We will continue to support the Commission on the road to achieving clear and enforceable rules of the road for the Internet for the benefit of creators, innovators, entrepreneurs and the public. However, we also feel that the time to act is now, to avoid prolonged uncertainty for all stakeholders, including musicians and music entrepreneurs. The future of the Internet depends on decisions made today, as does the future of music. We believe that Net Neutrality is the best and only way to ensure that both futures remain bright.

Sincerely,
R.E.M.
The Roots
Rosanne Cash
Bonnie Raitt
Jackson Browne
MOBY
OK Go
Jamie Kitman

TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT WWW.MONOLITHFESTIVAL.COM

MONOLITH FESTIVAL presented by Esurance returns to Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 12th and 13th with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs headlining Saturday night, and The Mars Volta topping the bill on Sunday. The festival debuted in 2007 as the first multi-day, multi-stage festival ever held at Red Rocks – Colorado’s beloved outdoor venue. Monolith was instantly adopted as an indie fan favorite and a staple of the summer festival season.

Each year, MONOLITH hand picks a line-up consisting of fan requests, indie favorites and blog darlings. This year’s line-up, revealed one-band-at-a-time over the past several weeks via Twitter and Facebook, has already generated plenty of buzz. We are thrilled to unveil the line-up in its entirety, which includes everyone’s favorite art-punk trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and progressive rockers The Mars Volta! Joining the 2009 headliners is a deep and diverse roster including Girl Talk, Of Montreal, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Phoenix, DOOM, The Thermals, Health, Ida Maria, WALE, Passion Pit, The Dandy Warhols and many, many more.
2009 Monolith Festival VIP Kick-Off Party Announced: Monolith will host two kick-off parties in Denver on September 11. Events will be held at adjacent venues, The Gothic Theater and Moes BBQ. Performing artists include The Cool Kids, Chromeo (DJ), Hot Tub, Boyhollow and more. Kick-Off Party is open to VIP Ticketholders, media and winners of the Southern Comfort ticket promotion.

MONOLITH fills a niche in Colorado’s already vibrant indie music scene, even within a seemingly saturated U.S. festival market. With five stages and premium facility amenities, MONOLITH builds on the natural splendor of Red Rocks and has quickly become a requisite for festival goers and indie hipsters. As Billboard Magazine reviewed, “The outrageously beautiful Red Rocks has been screaming out for an underground/indie-style music festival for many years. Thanks to the tireless work of an elite group of Colorado scenesters, the dream is now a reality.”
