Boston-based dream-folk artist Marissa Nadler has debuted a brand new video for “In Your Lair, Bear,” the first track off her critically acclaimed self-titled full-length, that Pitchfork awarded with an “Albums of the Year: Honorable Mention” and was featured in American Songwriter, WXPN, and Drowned In Sound ‘s favorite albums of the year lists. Marissa produced the video alongside Alec K. Refearn, who also directed it. Shot in her Massachusetts home, Nadler said “This is a video to encapsulate the themes that are lyrically portrayed in the song.” Nadler is now putting the finishing touches on a followup EP to her s/t release due out in 2012, and will perform a one-off show in San Francisco and a NYE show at the Boston Public Library with Cass McCombs, Ida and Drew O’Doherty. More details about the forthcoming release to follow.

Nadler recently gave away two covers of Loudon Wainwright III’s “Motel Blues” and Tom Petty’s “Learning to Fly” from her Covers Volume II album available now at her Etsy shop. Covers Volume II follows her s/t album released earlier this year with her own Box of Cedar Records. After releasing several albums with Kemado (and having one of her songs inspire the name for vinyl start-up Mexican Summer), Nadler ventured out independently for this s/t album, which has been featured on NPR “World Cafe: Next,” NPR First Listen, Vogue, KEXP, Pitchfork ‘Overlooked Records of 2011′ with an 8.1 album review, one of SPIN’s “5 Best New Artists for June.”

THE TWILIGHT SAD TO TOUR IN SUPPORT OF ‘NO ONE CAN EVER KNOW’

The Twilight Sad will be embarking on a North American tour following the release of their forthcoming full-length, No One Can Ever Know. The album was produced by Andrew Weatherall and will be available February 7, 2012 via Fat Cat Records.

Freshly inspired by a listening diet of Cabaret Voltaire, Can, Liars, Magazine, Autechre, and Public Image Limited, the band turn to a dark, synth-heavy sound for No One Can Ever Know; the resulting LP shares thematic and sonic space with the most innovative offerings from Depeche Mode, The Cure, or even Nine Inch Nails.

As made clear already by widely-spread preview track “Kill It In The Morning” (dubbed “slightly evil-sounding” by Pitchfork) and first single “Sick” (which, according to Stereogum “ticks with post-Radiohead guitar and dread”) The Twilight Sad’s third full-length, No One Can Ever Know, marks a sonic shift for the band.

TWILIGHT SAD TOUR DATES
Feb 23 Washington DC – Rock and Roll Hotel
Feb 24 Philadelphia PA – Johnny Brenda’s
Feb 25 Brooklyn NY – Music Hall of Williamsburg
Feb 28 Montreal QC – Il Motore
Feb 29 Toronto ON – Lee’s Palace

BIDINIBAND RELEASES IN THE ROCK HALL JANUARY 24 ON PHEROMONE RECORDINGS

In The Rock Hall is the epic second album by Bidiniband, the estimable Toronto quartet led by former Rheostatic and award-winning author Dave Bidini. Bidini is the only Canadian artist to be nominated for a Juno, Gemini and Genie Award, as well as a finalist in 2012′s CBC Canada Reads series. With In the Rock Hall– released January 24, 2012 on Pheromone Recordings– Bidini returns to his roots as an artist alongside his longstanding bandmates drummer Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith), guitarist Paul Linklater (Pinecones) and bassist Doug Friesen (John K Samson, Peter Elkas). In The Rock Hall was recorded in only six days at Revolution Recording in Toronto with engineer Joe Dunphy. The record was mixed by Michael Phillip-Wojewoda (BNL, Rheostatics).

This was the first album to be recorded in Toronto’s new state of the art studio and was the result of two years of constant gigging in the clubs, taverns, bars and shanties of Canada. The songs were also recorded live off the floor with but a single guitar overdub. The title track is based on the poem “In the Rock Hall” by author Paul Quarrington, and another track, “Eunoia,” draws its lyrics from the epic literary work of the same name by Christian Bok. Other songs explore similarly wild and esoteric Bidiniband themes: pirates, war, dating, travel, The Smurfs, engines, the waterways, and movie-making. All of that and a song about Johnny Winter.

Mastered by Joao Carvalho, In the Rock Hall is an expressive, white-hot rock and roll statement from one of Canada’s longstanding musical and literary pioneers and counts among his finest work in an artistic life that has already spanned four decades.

In celebration of the release of In The Rock Hall, Bidiniband will be playing The Dakota Tavern on January 24th from 7 until 10 pm. The night will be filled with surprise guests, noisemakers, amp throwing, squirrel-toss, balloon drinking, dart poker and underwear bingo. And, one really good drum solo.

Catch the band while they make their way across Canada:

01/26/12 – Hamilton Bidiniband and reading Casbah Lounge
01/27/12 – Toronto Bidiniband (7pm) Toronto Reference Library
01/27/12 – St. Catharines Bidiniband (11 pm) The Merchant Ale House
01/28/12 – Toronto CD Release Show The Dakota Tavern
02/07/12 – Halifax with Sean Panting Carleton

I Break Horses

Allow us to introduce you to the beguiling world of I BREAK HORSES, the nom de plume of Maria Lindén and her musical partner Fredrik Balck. Residing in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, the duo have been meticulously crafting the nine incredible tracks that make up debut album Hearts throughout stolen moments gathered up over the past two years.

The task of capturing the sonic density of Lindén’s compositions was painstaking, while Balck’s lyrics, constantly teasing the senses, are at times insular and cold to the touch. It’s only when interpreted by Maria’s gorgeous vocals that a warmth is added, like the first rays of sun on a winters morning.

Although heavily (and openly) influenced by My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Jesus & Mary Chain et al – Hearts is far from an exercise in typical shoegaze fayre. Maria, waif-like and unassuming in person, is transformed on record to sound 10 feet tall. And, perhaps where certain contemporaries would hypnotize the listener into their world by sheer volume alone, I Break Horses lock firmly onto the very thing that makes each and every one of us ‘tick’: our pulse. Our Hearts. The common thread that links the nine songs together; always present, always beating – the album’s strength and presence guided entirely by it.

Coupled with with Lindén’s vocal, a seductive Scandinavian croon that’s bathed in an ocean of reverb and tremelo, Hearts is quite the sonic experience. It can’t be defined via a few meagre adjectives or genre classifications; you have to live it, live inside it. It will soak you up, embrace you and give back what you put in… Welcome to the most bewitching debut of the year.

With a thousand plus shows played throughout their twenty year career, The Sea and Cake are known for giving audiences across the globe that perfect blend of old school TSAC favorites and newer gems. We are pleased to announce, Chicago’s finest will carry on this tradition as they tour North America this November and December in support of their recently released ninth album, The Moonlight Butterfly, out this past May on Thrill Jockey Records. Two decades in and re-energized, The Sea and Cake show no signs of slowing down – earlier this year, they toured and released a split 7” with Broken Social Scene, they head to South America prior to taking off on their North American tour, and are already working on material for another release in 2012.

About The Moonlight Butterfly:
In a live setting and throughout The Moonlight Butterfly, The Sea and Cake’s distinct sound continues to be centered around the delicate guitar interplay of Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt, driven by the versatile rhythms of bassist Eric Claridge and drummer John McEntire, and finally set apart by Prekop’s vocals and obtuse lyrics. However, with this new release, the band has a renewed sense of freedom and seems to be invigorated by their explorations — the trademark soft-spoken intimacy has been replaced by assured confidence and buoyancy. Additionally, a more experimental approach is introduced into the song’s textures and structures as The Moonlight Butterfly is filled with extended instrumental passages bearing the markers of Prekop’s recent solo exploration of analog synthesizers.

Seger originally conceived his 2011 Tour as a short spring run of 18-20 dates. Due to the overwhelming response from fans, Seger nearly tripled the number of shows. The Vegas performance will be Seger’s 50th concert in 2011.

On September 13, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band made digital history of their own by offering fans a Free 6-Track Bonus EP on iTunes to celebrate the release of their digitally remastered multi-platinum Nine Tonight and Live Bullet concert albums. During the one week promotion, Seger gave his fans 1,698,000 free downloaded tracks. The two live double albums debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 Catalog Chart at #4 and #7, respectively.

Seger & his Silver Bullet Band’s live performances led to record sales in excess of 51 million including 11 platinum and seven multi-platinum RIAA-certified album awards. Seger holds the distinction in 2010 for the #1 Catalog Album of the Decade for his Greatest Hits, which has sold over nine million copies (U.S.A.) to date, posting an unbroken 17-year streak on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums and Catalog Albums charts.

Austin band Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears are proud to announce tour dates in November and December. The band will kick off the tour Friday, November 11 in Santa Fe, New Mexico before making their way up the west coast, including a stop in Los Angeles on November 11. The tour will head to the Midwest to wrap up in Chicago, Illinois for a New Year’s Eve party on December 31. For a complete list of tour dates, please see below.

Growing up in Austin and Round Rock, Joe took it all in-Delta and Chicago blues, Memphis soul, Detroit garage punk-and what came out the other end was, and is, unlike anything else out there. “I don’t know, man-I just kinda dove into it,” Lewis said. “These neighbors of mine were in this country band and they got to go on tour all the time, and I had to go to work in this stupid factory. I was like, ‘Man, I gotta get in on that.’ So I pulled a guitar down off the wall of a pawnshop where I was workin’ at the time and learned stuff as I went along. The people I was playing with wanted to practice all the time, and I was like, ‘No, man, let’s get out there-I wanna try to do this shit.’ I pretty much learned on stage.”

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears have had an incredible year full of highlights. Just last week the band was featured on the PBS stalwart Austin City Limits with Raphael Saadiq. Earlier in the year, they had one of the year’s most buzzed-about performances on The Late Show with David Letterman. The group also released a hip-hop-infused mixtape, Livin’ in the Jungle, which was named after the Scandalous single. The mixtape was put together by Mad Decent’s DJA and featured choice verses from some of the industry’s hottest Southern rappers.

After years of struggle to get heard, things started moving fast for Lewis after he and bandmate Zach Ernst put together the earliest incarnation of Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, naming themselves after a crusted container of honey they found on the floor of their “disgusting” rehearsal room. They went out with Spoon after Britt Daniel caught a set, and their subsequent, Eno-produced EP caught the ear of Lost Highway’s Kim Buie, who signed them to a record deal. Eno then helmed their 2009 debut album for the label, Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!, much of it cut live off the floor. “The album manages to maximize every incendiary second of sonic sexuality the band is putting out,” raved PopMatters’ Christel Loar. “Make no mistake, Lewis knows his history, but he also knows his moment, too, and it’s now. The Honeybears aren’t afraid to mine the past to make music for the future.”

Lewis writes from direct, often bitter experience with unflinching veracity. The songs of Scandalousare littered with the debris of age-old issues: hard times and one-night stands, lying and cheating, redemption and revenge. Gritty, raunchy and real, his music is not for the squeamish, but experiencing it fully can be genuinely cathartic.

Consisting of Jon Davidson (vocals/guitar), Russell Stafford (vocals/guitar), and Kaycee Kay (drums), Crown Point focuses on hooks as much as they do lyrics, creating a polished, friendly sound that doesn’t grow old or tired after repeated listens.

Formed in late 2009, the band wasn’t but a few months old when they struck out on their first national tour, including an appearance at 2010′s SxSW Music Conference. The band has since done five national tours, keeping busy throughout 2010 and 2011, and continue to tour while working on their debut full-length.

The Boise Weekly calls Crown Point’s music “sweet alt/rock with a swirl of pop on top.”

Their EP, Wolves, produced by Jeff Johnson (Jet Black Stare, Faber Drive, Adelita’s Way) and engineered by Chris Holmes (The Veer Union, Katy Perry, Simon Collins), features Nickelback’s Daniel Adair on drums.

The EP, coupled with relentless touring, helped Crown Point flesh out their sound and bring to life their brand of polished pop-rock, allowing the band to make a mark the old fashioned way. They’ve already written a catchy collection of songs that will resonate with the listener. Now they plan to pound out the pavement to make sure listeners get a chance to hear them.

“The Collapse” follows current single “Sick” which during its 27 weeks on the charts, rose to No. 1 at Active Rock and has over a million hits on YouTube, thanks to the group’s huge fan-base, which continues to grow due to “incredible songwriting, and an amazing work ethic,” as Hails and Horns magazine raved in a recent feature on the band. Front man Rick DeJesus credits his band’s success to the fans, “It’s all because of the people who listen to us. We’ll never forget that,” he says.

The band recently wrapped a string of dates on the Carnival of Madness tour alongside Alterbridge, Theory of A Deadman, Black Stone Cherry and Emphatic, and is set to get back on the road this fall. Catch them at the below dates in support of Home School Valedictorian.
