Chairlift’s Song “Bruises” in the new iPod Nano Commercial, Tour with Yeasayer!

It’s been an exciting few months for Brooklyn-via-Boulder three-piece Chairlift. With their full-length debut, Does You Inspire You, on the horizon via Kanine Records, the band’s song “Bruises” is now featured in the new iPod Nano commercial, airing worldwide Sept. 14! It can be viewed here: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/gallery/ads/large.html

Also, Chairlift will be returning to the road in October with mystical psych-brethrens, Yeasayer. The band went cross-country with Ariel Pink this summer and has previously performed with bands such as MGMT, Mixel Pixel and YACHT among others. Though Chairlift is technically 9 in “blog years” (many of whom have already written about said iPod commercial), the band may require a bit more of an introduction – read below for more info.

^w/ Yeasayer

Originally from Boulder, CO, Caroline Polachek, Aaron Pfenning and Patrick Wimberly were inspired by the 1980′s faux-gothic architecture of the strange Broker Inn they would frequent to see empty late-night jazz shows. Inspired by this ‘ideal hypothetical setting,’ Chairlift formed in the summer of 2006, intent on making live music for haunted houses.

After a move to Brooklyn in 2007, the band started developing their sound into a hypnotic, yet tongue-in-cheek style of synth-pop. They drew further inspiration from their new surroundings as well as from playing shows around Williamsburg and the Lower East Side with a thriving society of experimental pop magicians. Their first release was to acclaimed 7 inch and digital DL single for “Evident Utensil” in January 2008, to which Does You Inspire You is the followup. The NME called it “a charming pop oddity,” Exclaim! gave it “immediate cult status,” and RCRDLBL.com deemed it “the best single from a Brooklyn band since like TV on the Radio or something.” Comparisons were also made to The Knife, Of Montreal, and Yaz(!).
