2007 HILLTOP HOODS INITIATIVE WINNER ANNOUNCED
On the eve of the 2007 ARIA awards at which they hold 3 nominations, Australia’s premier hip-hop artists, Hilltop Hoods, have announced the winner of the 2007 Hilltop Hoods Initiative.
In 2005 the Hilltop Hoods took it upon themselves to give something back to the Hip-Hop community, and in recognition of the significant role that South Australian Government funding played in their early careers, they created the Hilltop Hoods Initiative, a grant that in 2007 has been increased to $5000.
This annual initiative is aimed at assisting young and emerging South Australian Hip-Hop artists to manufacture and distribute a CD, along with two mentorship sessions with Hilltop Hoods’ Co-manager, PJ Murton.
The fund is managed by Arts SA in association with Carclew Youth Arts and the winner is selected by a local panel of Hip-Hop experts, who described this year as the most competitive round yet.
We are very pleased to announce the winner of 2007’s Hilltop Hoods Initiative is James Albert, aka JimBlah, a 22 year old Indigenous artist from Mile End.
“We first got involved in the initiative to give emerging hip-hop artists a chance to jump start their careers. It’s great to see that the quality of this year’s applications reflect just how much talent is out there in South Australia”. Hilltop Hoods.
