Bar-Bee Brings World Pop Flare to U.S. New Single “Paddy Cake” Featuring Beenie Man
New York, NY — Best known for her work with famed Dancehall artist Beenie Man, Bar-Bee is ready to bring her Jamaican successes to America. Surrounded by controversy early in her career, Bar-Bee focused on making the best of things when the odds seemed to be against her. She appeared on Beenie Man’s single and video for “Give It Up,” and followed suit by putting the veteran artist on her own song “Paddy Cake.” She is gearing up for her debut album in conjunction with New York-based label UrbanDisk Records in Spring 2008.
At a curvaceous six-feet-tall, 20-year-old Bar-Bee is far from the average woman. Her stunning stature alone has warranted her offers from clothing companies and magazines to model for them, however her dedication to her music has taken the front seat. “I feel blessed to have had some amazing opportunities due to my appearance, but music is my first love, and I never wanted to lose focus on that,” she explains.
By August of 2007, “Paddy Cake” was enjoying constant rotation on Jamaican radio. Bar-Bee is currently putting the finishing touches on the video for “Paddy Cake” in New York City, and is looking forward to giving fans in the U.S. a taste of her pop-friendly brand of Dancehall. Meanwhile, her follow up single “Light A Candle Tonight” is picking up steam in Jamaica. Bar-Bee has made both “Paddy Cake” and “Light A Candle Tonight” available for download at www.tygereye.net/barbee.
Bar-Bee’s manager, Will Crittendon, signed her to his UrbanDisk imprint after seeing her potential to break outside of the Jamaican market. A seasoned music industry professional with a sharp eye for talent, Mr. Crittendon knew from the beginning that there was something special about the teen sensation. “Her ability to deliver a song is impeccable,” he explains. “It’s only a matter of time before fans see her true range of talent, and I am confident that she will add a brand new edge to pop music around the world.”
ABOUT BAR-BEE
Bar-Bee was born in Jamaica to Jamaican and Nigerian parents. She spent her early years traveling between her parents’ native countries, and found her life’s calling through music. Her recent work with Beenie Man stirred up a hit single, “Give It Up” and some controversy in Jamaica. Bar-Bee made the best of potential challenges to make a lane for herself, and is ready to bring her sound to the U.S. and the world at large in a big way with her new single “Paddy Cake,” which features Beenie Man.
Bar-Bee began singing and writing poems at the age of five, and by age 11 she was a leader of her church choir. At 16 she formed her first group Best Kept Secret, performing at talent shows and small venues. By the time she was 18, Bar-Bee began performing solo. She recorded her first single “Missing You,” which featured VP Records artist Junior Kelly. The single received tremendous airplay throughout the Caribbean, the North Eastern United States, South Florida, Canada, Nigeria and West Africa. The video for “Missing You” received critical acclaim globally, putting Bar-Bee on the map of young entertainers.
Bar-Bee has shared the stage with some of the world’s top reggae artists such as Junior Kelly and Beenie Man, among others. She recently performed at the 2007 SumFest in Jamaica for more than 30,000 fans with artists such as Beenie Man, Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J and other top world artists.
In early 2007, Bar-Bee was featured on Beenie Man’s new single and video “Give It Up.” Once again, Bar-Bee found a positive response worldwide as the single became a hit in Jamaica. A prolific song writer, Bar-Bee has a catalog of over 60 songs, and continues to write daily as she records all her own songs.
Now just 20-years-old, Bar-Bee is signed with UrbanDisk Records and Frontline Media World Inc. Headed by industry veteran Will Crittendon, the budding label is doing everything possible to support Bar-Bee’s career. Her new hit max-single “Paddy Cake” featuring Beenie Man also includes the tracks “Diva In My Sneaker” and “Light A Candle Tonite,” which also features Beenie Man.
Under the guidance of Will Crittendon, Bar-Bee is poised to be a world-class total artist. “Bar-Bee’s music may be classified as Urban World Pop,” says Crittendon. “Of all the hit artists that I have guided and produced over the past 25 years, Bar-Bee has all that it takes to succeed big time.”
Currently, Bar-Bee is working on her third music video for the single “Paddy Cake” and is recording her debut album on UrbanDisk Records. Slated for a Fall 2007 release, the album promises to bring the Urban World Pop sound to the masses. Taking from her own inspirations Bob Marley and Fela Kuti, Bar-Bee expresses hope that her music will touch people: “I want to be a role model and an inspiration for all young people all over.”
