This is the sound that washes over your ears from the first kick to the last cymbal clash of L.I.S.n Live.In.Studio, the new album from Maryland-bred, Los Angeles-based emcee E Reece and his band Core Elements. Following up on his 2007 debut album A New Breed, Reece knew that the next step in the evolution of the organic sound that he calls his own was to go live, so that’s exactly what he has done with this record. He scouted for exactly the kind of musicians he was after, assembled a group of almost complete strangers from scratch, hit the rehearsal studio with a vengeance, and Core Elements is the result, an eight-man band which includes everything from a saxophonist to a hypeman. L.I.S.N. recalls Do You Want More??!?-era Roots, except where Black Thought and Malik split rhyme duties, this record is all Reece, one man on fire.
