Available on Newsstands and iTunes

New York, NY: The FADER, the definitive voice of emerging music, is celebrating ten years of in-depth reporting and distinct street sensibility with its 58th issue, featuring exclusive interviews with Kanye West, whose first-ever magazine cover was on FADER’s 20th issue, and the drum-and-guitar duo No Age, on their first national magazine cover. Both artists are similar in the same belief of The FADER’s mission: to present the best of emerging music, no boundaries attached.

The FADER’s exclusive thirty-two-thousand-word Q&A with Kanye West comes five years after his first interview with The FADER in December of 2003. In this uncut tribute to the person who has embodied The FADER throughout his career, the honorable West is the biggest pop star in the galaxy and tells all to the publication that put him on newsstands before any other. He explains that music is for everyone, not separate groups of people and “bad” labels. He wants to be considered “pop.” He admits that if he hadn’t been through the terrible things he’s been through, that he couldn’t deliver at this level. Through his personal and professional milestones over the years, his songs dominating the charts, and the release of his next album, 808′s & Heartbreak, Kanye West thinks he’s awesome…and so does The FADER.

“…I think that’s what the FADER kids are made of, people who were different or wanted something better than what was the norm,” says West. “I just don’t want people to think that because I’m big I’m not into the same things I was into that made me big. For [the FADER] to put me on the cover, it’s kinda dope. It feels like I’m on the right path.”

On the opposite cover there’s No Age, the duo who reemerged from LA’s reinvigorated punk scene to present music with no boundaries to audiences of all ages. With a similar outlook as Kanye in the neighborhood of ‘everything is possible,’ the DIY duo does things their own way, and quite successfully at that. With this year’s release of Nouns, their vision has taken them to “embrace all the possibilities and all the promise of being a punk band during this strange moment in history.” Also in the book, The FADER speaks with venerable producer, DJ and party promoter Erol Alkan, and gathers the history of the man who changed London’s musical landscape with his DJ’ing, his creation of the West End’s long-running Trash, to his work as a producer. The FADER also gives thanks to the cultural curators of our country: dance clubs, record stores, book stores and more, these people have shaped the publication’s cultural vision.

As always, F58 will also be available via iTunes in its entirety, with corresponding audio podcasts and a free download, at www.thefader.com.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

On the covers:
“What I want is for people to realize at this point is, I don’t give a f*uck. That’s why I made this album. I’m using auto-tune because I don’t give a f*ck. I like the way it sounds.”
-Kanye West

“We make noise in whatever way we want to make noise. We may never be asked back. Next year this might not be an option, but for us to get a chance to go through those gates, it better for us to not censor ourselves and just go out there and do it.”
-Randy Randall, No Age

Also between the covers:

“We wanna strip everything that keeps people from connecting to that deep innermost part of themselves”
-Andrew WK of Santos Party House, in Curators

“I just wanted to play records because I was selfish. I wanted to hear music that I liked. That’s the thing about being young. You’re always trying to push the things you love onto other people. I didn’t know that it would be a vehicle to help me kiss girls.”
-Erol Alkan

And of course, The FADER’s Gen F section where the most essential artists bubbling up from the underground make their debut appearance. This month’s artists include Fan Death, DJ Mujava, College, Ron Browz, The Muslims, Trai’D, The Big Pink, and Illa J.
