CANADIAN ELECTROFUNK BAND CHROMEO GUESTS ON 10TH EDITION OF LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE, DEBUTING AUGUST 15
Daryl Hall Hooks Up with Cutting-Edge Canadian Innovators, Who Say It’s a Dream Come True
Daryl Hall’s free web-show, Live From Daryl’s House, has become a destination for music fans seeking the latest in up-and-coming artists. The 10th edition, which can be seen on www.livefromdarylshouse.com, starting August 15, will feature highly touted, two-man Canadian electrofunk outfit Chromeo.
The Montreal-based pair is made up of Dave 1 (David Macklovitch) on guitar and vocals and P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) on keyboards, synthesizers and talk box. They’ve released two albums, including 2004’s She’s In Control and 2007’s Fancy Footwork, both on prestigious indie label Vice. The band was named MTV’s Artist of the Week in Oct. 2007. The set included a pair of Daryl Hall & John Oates hits, “Family Man” and “Adult Education” as well as Chromeo songs, “Tenderoni” and “Waiting 4 U”
“It’s not every day that you meet the single biggest influence of your band, let alone get to jam with them in a laid back and creative atmosphere,” says Chromeo’s Dave 1. “Filming Live From Daryl’s House was one of the highlights of our musical journey. We’ll be pinching ourselves for years for come. Given that he pretty much wrote half our songs, it was about time we met Daryl Hall in real life.”
The show with Chromeo can be seen exclusively at www.livefromdarylshouse.com starting August 15 at 8:00 pm EST.
Past episodes of the series have featured a mix of well-known performers like Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall and Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, as well as newcomers such as Austin, TX-based acoustic guitarist and songwriter Monte Montgomery and Philly soul singer Mutlu.
Daryl Hall’s “light bulb moment” of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet” has received kudos from Rolling Stone and the influential Lefsetz Letter.
Live from Daryl’s House has taken place at Hall’s residences in New York and London, as well as at the SXSW confab in Austin, TX, with plans to record at his other homes in New England and the Bahamas.
“These collaborations have really reinvigorated my music, both as a solo artist and in the stuff I do with John and the band,” says Daryl. “And the response continues to be overwhelming.”

Giant, menacing legs? A David Lynch floor? A spectacular tango dance? P-Thugg wearing a tuxedo? Sounds like a new Chromeo video! Check out the curiously elegant clip for Fancy Footwork, premiered exclusively on Myspace this week (with a great first media look from Perez Hilton!)

Straight from their searing Coachella performance, P-Thugg and Dave 1, better known as Chromeo gear up to take on the summer festival circuit, announce their own summer tour of the West Coast and prepare to take to the outdoor stage for a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on June 17th.
“Coachella was winding down. Then an odd chant, coming from the last tent: ‘Chro-MEE-oh, OOOOOOoooo,’ followed by a blast of light that revealed a solid third of festival populationŠ Dave 1 and P-Thugg blasted their Prince-biting electrofunk to the metal rafters, earning their billing for the night, and leaving no question that they weren’t just fluffers for the act to follow.”

Of great note is the June 17th release date of Chromeo’s much anticipated, re-release, Fancy Footwork: Deluxe Edition (Vice).

Chromeo: once an underground best kept secret, now an Earth-sweeping cultural phenomenon responsible for bringing together a massive union of indie trendsters, dance muggers, gay students, hip hoppers, music blogging nerds and nubile girls. They attract the attention of celebrities like those with the surname Hilton (Paris, Perez), Hall and Oates (who sought out a collaboration) and Kanye West (who regularly name checks them on his blog). The revolutionary MTV program 52/52 took an in depth look at Chromeo and not surprisingly, fell in love. Since the beginning of the year, they’ve sold out shows in LA (El Rey), New York (Bowery Ballroom, twice), Manchester (Academy), London (KoKo’s), and have just completed a triumphant homecoming tour in Canada. Chromeo’s appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live gave America a chance to experience the moog riffs, talk boxes and heartfelt loverboy lyrics that have been sorely missing in the milieu of contemporary music. All the key American festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella and All Points West have come calling hoping to catch some Chromeo magic. Now, the good news:

“Piece of Me, Piece of You”
Zune Arts, the program that aims to bring the best creative minds together to collaborate on inspiring works of art, has released a new video: “Piece of Me, Piece of You.” The new work is a short film created by Three Legged Legs and features the musical styling of Chromeo’s “Fancy Footwork.” “Piece of Me, Piece of You” is available on April 8th at Zune-Arts.net and also available via podcast from the Zune Marketplace. Fans can also see a previously released behind-the-scenes video which shows the puppetry in action on Zune-Arts.net.
This latest piece follows a mob of near life-sized puppet zombies as they infect a city with their mad pop-locking dance grooves. To bring the film to life, Greg, Reza, and Casey of Three Legged Legs collaborated with modern dance choreographer Kristin Zipfel as well as emerging puppet makers Adam Parker Smith and Carolyn Salas to create a flawless musical thriller.
“It’s really impressive to see what participating artists come up with when asked to visually interpret the Zune brand themes of sharing and friendship,” said Jason Reindorp, marketing director for Zune. “The Zune Arts program gives artists a new distribution platform to showcase their work, delivers unique ‘ownable’ entertainment to consumers and also demonstrates something fun about the Zune brand.”
Zune Arts recently announced the availability of Zune Arts content through a new podcast series, which showcases a broad selection of today’s cutting edge cultural artists expressing themselves through film, music, design and illustration. In addition to showing these works, the podcast series will feature artist interviews, exclusive content, behind-the-scenes videos and more.

Zune Arts Launches New Podcast Series - Three Legged Leg’s Exclusive “Behind-the-Scenes: Piece of Me, Piece of You” Released Today
The magic and creativity of Zune Arts is now officially available through a new podcast series on the Zune Marketplace. The Zune Arts podcast is a weekly showcase of today’s most cutting edge cultural artists expressing themselves through film, music, design, illustration, and everything in between. The podcasts are available for free download, and fans can subscribe to automated feeds so the series is synced with their Zune devices. The weekly podcasts are a new way to enjoy archived Zune Arts material, and will also include exclusive content, including behind-the-scenes short films, artist interviews, and other fun content aimed at extending and enhancing the Zune Arts experience.
The latest addition to the Zune Arts podcast is called “Behind-the-Scenes: Piece of Me, Piece of You,” which features the production madness and creative genius that goes into the making of a Zune Arts film. In this latest piece, Greg, Reza and Casey of Three Legged Legs show us how it takes collaboration, innovation and copious amounts of felt to turn near life-sized puppets, created by artist Adam Parker Smith, into mad, pop-locking zombies. This marks the Three Legged Legs trio’s first foray into the world of puppetry, but the crew has previously cut their directorial teeth with animation for Sony Vaio, Amp Energy Drink and various independent endeavors.
The behind-the-scenes podcast is available in advance of the upcoming “Piece of Me, Piece of You” Zune Arts film, which features musical duo Chromeo’s “Fancy Footwork” as the backing track to this surreal and frighteningly imaginative piece that demonstrates how sharing can lead to infectious forms of self-expression and discovery. As Reza explains “we’re shooting a bunch of zombie puppets attacking each other and infecting each other with dance, all over a Chromeo track, which is hot!” The “Piece of Me, Piece of You” film will premiere on the Zune Arts website April 1, and the behind-the-scenes podcast released today will give fans a fun taste of what to look forward to.
Zune Arts brings the best creative minds together to collaborate on inspiring works of art under the Zune brand themes of sharing, connectivity, discovery, and friendship. Zune Arts is continuously growing, ever-evolving, and always open to new voices, influences and ideas.

FOOL’S GOLD: THE FUTURE OF NORTH AMERICAN CLUB MUSIC
- SXSW & WMC showcases in March
- “Screaming Bloody Murder” tour featuring A-Trak, Sinden and Steve Aoki in April
- Smash new releases to follow!
With a slew of singles over the past year that connect the dots between hip-hop and electronic music, and a sold-out tour last fall, upstart Brooklyn record label Fool’s Gold-founded by DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs-has established itself as the face of today’s club scene and the indie to watch, capturing the hearts of Pitchfork and Billboard, and turning Kid Sister into a new-era MTV icon.
This Spring, the label brings it’s midas touch to the road once more, as it gets ready to introduce a shiny new batch of genre re-defining artists.
The Fool’s Gold SXSW showcase at Volume (614 E. 6th St) on Saturday, March 15th is one of the festival’s hottest tickets, featuring live performances from Chromeo, Kid Sister, and new FG addition Kid Cudi, with DJ sets from A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Jokers of the Scene, and Nick Catchdubs.
On Friday, March 28, the label invades Miami with a Fool’s Gold WMC showcase at White Room (1306 N Miami Ave) starring A-Trak, trendsetting UK house phenom Sinden, as well as LA Riots, Jokers of the Scene, Treasure Fingers, Nacho Lovers, Sammy Bananas and Nick Catchdubs.
The party continues with the “Screaming Bloody Murder” North American tour kicking off April 10th at Hiro Ballroom in NYC with triple-threat headliners A-Trak, Sinden, and party king Steve Aoki, along with Sammy Bananas and very special guests in each city.
Of course all this buzz would be meaningless without the music to back it up, and the new releases from Fool’s Gold more than justify everyone’s enthusiasm.
Kid Cudi’s melodic “Day ‘N’ Nite” and Jokers of the Scene’s rave anthem “Y’all Know The Name” are currently heating up the charts of progressive club and radio DJs worldwide. More massive, dancefloor-ready singles are ready to go from the label’s latest batch of North American signings: Treasure Fingers, LA Riots, Trackademicks and Nacho Lovers. Not to be outdone, Fool’s Gold is also set to drop special edition releases from international collaborators Kavinsky (France), Bag Raiders (Australia) and Congorock (Italy). Of course, Kid Sister’s debut LP Koko B Ware (on Downtown/Fool’s Gold) and the first Fool’s Gold label compilation are in the works as well.

PRESS ON FOOL’S GOLD:
It sounds sort of futuristic, but at the root of it all is a hankering to return to the roots of hip hop music-good vibes and rocking the party. - Dazed & Confused
In a word, the show was awesome. - Billboard, on the Fool’s Gold CMJ Showcase
DJ/entrepreneurs A-Trak (aka Kanye’s DJ) and Nick Catchdubs, head honchos of upstart label Fool’s Gold, understand the value of the total package. The music they release and the artwork they use to promote it is bright, colorful, energetic, fun-loving, and childish (in a good way). And, most importantly, charmingly nerdy. - Pitchfork
Kid Sister signs to Downtown Records!
KID SISTER SIGNS TO DOWNTOWN RECORDS!
Appearing this Thursday, February 28th on Spankin’ New Ladies Week on MTV’s TRL
Currently an mtvU Freshman Five artist and will be performing on mtvU’s Sping Break
After months of courting by major labels and speculation from fans and press, Kid Sister has decided to release her full-length debut “KoKo B. Ware” with Downtown Records/Fool’s Gold. The highly anticipated album will be out in summer 2008.
Kid Sister - the girl known as Melisa Young to her mother - has had quite a year leading up to her recent signing. Her inimitable flow and bold personality have already garnered the attention of media heavyweights like Rolling Stone, The New York Times, XXL, Spin, Blender, and Billboard, and even landed her on the cover of URB’s “Next 1000″ issue.
“Kid Sister is one of the most exciting new voices in music today and we are thrilled to welcome her to Downtown. She is a true artist with a vision, sound and style all her own, and we look forward to tremendous success together”. -Josh Deutsch of Downtown Records Chairman/CEO of Downtown Records
“Their roster is impeccable and the attitude at the company is so relaxed and cool. I don’t wanna call them an indie and definitely
won’t call them a major but still they’ve got some serious muscle. They’re just that rare, perfect fit you always dream about… like a fancy pair of jeans! ” -Kid Sister
Before she even dropped her first single, Kid Sister had played SXSW, Coachella, the Pitchfork Festival and Lollapalooza. She has shared stages with the likes of Kanye West, Akon, Chromeo, A-Trak, Flosstradamus, and fellow Chicago up-and-comers The Cool Kids.
Kanye decided he liked Kid Sister’s A-Trak produced anthem “Pro Nails” so much that he rhymed over it on his smash “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” mixtape. Rookie-of-the-year indie label Fool’s Gold released the remix as an official single and commissioned a creative, self-financed video (complete with dancing fingers and a prominent Kanye cameo!) that caused an internet commotion everywhere from the XXL blog to Perezhilton.com, and even broke its way into MTV and BET rotation.
Fashion notables have also taken an early notice of Kid Sister’s signature style. Marc Jacobs featured her single “Control” in his Spring 2008 fashion week show, WWD ran an early profile on her, and designer Erin Fetherston has plans to not only dress Kid Sister, but also collaborate with her in the near future.
With the Fool’s Gold family on board as the creative team for “KoKo B. Ware” -there’s no denying that Kid Sister’s Downtown debut will be one of the most exciting releases of the year. Kid Sis is still taking this!
“Updating L’Trimm’s old-school style for post-Lil’ Kim times, this tiny diva spins Eighties-inspired rhymes about Baby Phat and guys who won’t quit calling.” - ROLLING STONE
“Brilliant electro tech-rap that sounds like it’s rocking the best party ever.” -DAZED AND CONFUSED
“Thank god: another female MC.” -BILLBOARD
“what unites them is their fresh, left-of-center enthusiasm; their bold attitudes; and an expansive approach to female sexuality.” -THE NEW YORK TIMES on Kid Sister and two others in an article on the new breed of female rappers.
“Kid Sister is as cool as ice cream on a summer day, as sexy as she wants to be.” -BLACK BEAT
