West Coast Heavyweights Team With Mark Morrison On “Innocent Man” Remix Dedicated To DMX

* * * * * * * * *
California meets the UK, as Meech Wells teams with Mark Morrison for the remix of Innocent Man!

Multi-platinum selling artist Mark Morrison, Southern California’s newest talent Eastwood and legendary hookmaster Mr. Kane have collaborated on the remix to Morrison’s latest single “Innocent Man”, which also features DMX, and is a dedication to the incarcerated rap star.

The Meech Wells produced mid-tempo track, co-produced by Soul Mechanix, is being labelled as the “New West Remix”, and comes just weeks after DMX was sentenced to 90 days in jail (Jan. 30) for convictions on theft, drug-possession and animal-cruelty charges.

The track previously released in the UK only, and originally featuring just DMX has received a vocal addition of Mr. Kane, formerly known as Kokane, and a rap by Eastwood. Co-ordinated by super-producer Meech Wells, son of Motown legend Mary Wells, and famed for being Snoop Dogg’s producer of choice during the late ‘90’s producing numerous tracks on albums such as “No Limit Top Dogg” and “Tha Last Meal”.

Last year, Grammy Award-winner Swizz Beatz also remixed “Innocent Man”, for the second single from his artist Cassidy’s latest album, entitled B.A.R.S., released by Full Surface/J Records.

Already impacting radio world-wide, the inspirational West Coast remix is a leak in anticipation of the release of Morrison’s new album, due later this year. “Innocent Man” featuring DMX, which is out now, is the first official single from the album, and is Morrison’s first US single in 10 years. His debut “Return of the Mack” became a massive hit in the US reaching #2 on the Billboard charts and #1 across Europe.

Throughout the years we have learned one thing about Hip-Hop and Hollywood; they do not mix. Hip Hop inspired films are rarely depicted accurately and their accompanying soundtracks are just as bad. Continuing on this trend is the new Dmx soundtrack for his new action flop of 2003, "Cradle 2 The Grave".

DMX deserves some credit for working his ass off and actually bothering to put out a lot of material. But it isn't always good that he puts so much out, as it isn't always that great. Since the beginning of last year, he's dropped three LP's (including this one), and they've been alright. Nothing really exceptional, but he's been improving. Tracks like 'Slippin' aren't amazing, but they do show a deeper side of DMX.

Some artists change for the better and progress through the years while others stay mired in the same repetitive pattern for their entire career. Dmx is an artist that fits into the second category, an artist with all the talent in the world, but one that has never grown or progressed over time. When X dropped his classic debut album “It’s Dark And Hell It Hot”, he proved to the entire industry why he was indeed one of the best up and coming artists in the game. However, from their on out, X has never really changed, and instead of growing with each album he has moved backwards, releasing sub par albums that unfortunately have gotten worse each time. This pattern once again continues on X’s latest and final LP “Grand Champ”, where we get an album full of the same tired old Dmx clichés.

The Ruff Ryders crew, DMX, Drag-On, Eve, The Lox, and Ja Rule. May be the best crew in hip hop today! Just playing. These guys are the definition of wack. DMX has been dropping info about this joint and have some of the crew appear on his last album 'Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood.' Well they finally got to the studio and produced the compilation. The CD features production mostly by producer extraordinaire Swizz Beats.

When I first heard that this LP was in the works, I was, to say the least, not in the slightest bit bothered about it. However, with that being said, it isn't completely bad.

Out of the Ruff Ryders camp, there is only one group of emcees that I consistently enjoy listening to. That is of course, The LOX. They all have tons of skill. But other than them, the other emcees which I consider to be part of the actual Ruff Ryders (not affiliates), those being; Drag-On, Eve and DMX really hadn't impressed me on anything that much. DMX has had his moments, but usually he hasn't come off as someone that I'm too impressed with.
