Fans of Tha Dogg Pound know that they never have to wait long for a new release from their favorite group members. Kurupt recently dropped his collaboration effort with DJ Quik, “BlaQKout”, and it is now time for the other half of the Pound, Daz Dillinger, to grace his fans with a new album on August 11th.

The new record is entitled “Public Enemiez” and as the title suggests, it is premised around the “Public Enemies” flick which highlights 1930s gangster John Dillinger, who Daz amiably fashioned his alias after. “Public Enemiez” offers insight to Daz’s most personal experiences, allowing listeners a window into what made Daz Dillinger the gangster/rapper he is.

Tracks such as “Life Stagez” and “N My Neighborhood” find Daz reminiscing about hismself and depicting the inner-city lifestyle that is, to this day, prevalent in “his neighborhood”. “Tell Me What U Got”, takes you on a trip through his days on Death Row Records and sheds light on his feelings about his former boss, Suge Knight. While most of the album carries a mellow sound, the party anthem “Meet Me @ The Strip Club” succeeds in switching up the mood throughout the record.

“Public Enemiez” is a true solo album, meaning no other rappers are featured on it – something that rarely happens anymore these days. Daz did however reach out to some of his favorite R&B crooners Latoya Williams, Chris Starr, Los and Nicole Wray to assist him on the hooks, as well as his production partners Soopafly and Ivan Johnson to co-produce with him.

While putting the finishing touches on Snoop Dogg’s acclaimed Ego Trippin’ album in early 2008, DJ Quik had an idea. The rapper-producer-musician-entrepreneur wanted to do a full-length album with Kurupt, the uber-respected Dogg Pound member and Snoop Dogg affiliated-rapper he’d known since Death Row Records’ mid-1990s heyday and had worked with sparingly over years.

“Kurupt does in rap what I do in music,” DJ Quik says. “It just made sense. Kurupt is a gangster rapper in the sense of being raw, bare-bones and uncut. I wanted to do music that evoked certain feelings and could show his microphone superiority.” The result is BlaQKout coming June 9th.

“9 Times Out Of 10″ is the first single off the BlaQKout album.

DJ Quik’s rapping and production prowess and Kurupt’s microphone superiority shine throughout BlaQKout, the pair’s first collaborative album. A prime example of the duo’s explosive chemistry is “9 Times Out Of 10.” Over a heavy drum assemblage, Kurupt freaks an intricate rhyme pattern about the likelihood of things happening over and over again. “It’s total wordplay,” Kurupt explains. “You’ve got to catch it by listening. The beat catches you to where you want to hear what is going on. In life, nine times of 10, these are things that happen. That’s what I broke the whole record down to.”

The “Blaqkout” cut is the epitome of Southern Cali rider music that brings a Sunday on Crenshaw Blvd. vibe to mind.

But the track “Hey Playa” (Moroccan Blues) is the gem in Quik’s production crown – he found the sample & inspiration for this track while watching the Morocco episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern on TV. It’s this type of sonic bliss that made the partnership between DJ Quik — a platinum solo artist and producer of Jay-Z, 2Pac, AMG and others — and Kurupt — the standout lyricist of Death Row Records, a double platinum member of Tha Dogg Pound and a ferocious freestyle MC — so significant.
