THE DEPRECIATION GUILD To Release Debut Full-Length Album Online as Free Download Band to play record release show December 5th

The Depreciation Guild is two boys and a Famicom.

A fuzzed-out, reverb-drenched rock/electronic duo consisting of Kurt Feldman (Guitar, Vocals, Programming/Chip-tunes, Toys) and Christoph Hochheim (Guitar, Vocals). Backed solely by a Nintendo Entertainment System, the band blankets their sound with the crushing blows of its 8-Bit 2A03 sound chip. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of classic shoegaze and dreampop bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Ride, and Cocteau Twins, as well as more electronically-informed contemporary acts like M83 and Ulrich Schnauss, The Depreciation Guild have artfully cultivated a unique sound that strikes a balance between progressive and retro-chic. Based out of Brooklyn, New York, the band is no stranger to the local club circuit, having performed at renowned venues such as the Knitting Factory, Cake Shop, Galapagos, Don Hills, and the famed 2006 Blip Fest. The band’s first EP, Nautilus, released by 8BitPeoples in January 2006, is a blissed-out, guitar-heavy epic that was received with international acclaim.

Now, The Depreciation Guild have finished work on their first full-length release, entitled In Her Gentle Jaws, which includes the driving single “Butterfly Kisses”, a live favorite among their loyal fan base. Set for release in December 2007, In Her Gentle Jaws takes the band’s songwriting and arranging to breathtaking new places. From the sonic attack of “Sky Ghosts” to the lullaby calm of “Heavy Eyes”, The Depreciation Guild have created a piece of music designed to be heard as a whole – an album filled with highs and lows, saturated in color, and drifting into dream.

In Her Gentle Jaws was self-produced in New York. It was mixed in Chicago by Joshua Eustis, one half of renowned experimental electronic group Telefon Tel Aviv. Eustis’s resume includes work with artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Bebel Gilberto, Apparat, Robin Guthrie, and The Album Leaf. The record was mastered back home in Brooklyn by Bill Racine. Racine assisted producer Dave Fridmann on modern classics from the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, and has more recently produced albums for Rogue Wave and Mark Gardner of Ride. The iconic digital album art was designed by Agi Morawska for Lucha Design.

Pre-release buzz includes a recent full-length feature on influential website PopMatters; a 2-page feature in high-profile Latin America-based music magazine, Indie Rocks!; and a host of blogs from around the world.

In Her Gentle Jaws will be self-released, online, for free. It will be available at www.inhergentlejaws.com. The band will play a show to celebrate the launch of the website and release of the album on Wednesday, December 5, at 205 Bar in New York.

If you’ve been wondering where all the drunk punk kids have been hanging out, then go check out a Black Lips show, and you’ll find them throwing beer at each other, stage diving, crowd surfing, and putting the kind of spark back into live music that so recently seems to have been replaced by ubiquitous head-nodding hipsters. The Black Lips exude a raunchy energy onstage that is shared by very few bands out there today. They play a fast, propulsive set that does not relent in the slightest-despite their crazy stage antics, they are a tight band, and execute their music in a way that is completely inundated by their bawdry signature style, with wild, young fury and reckless energy. With spit and sweat flying, random onstage kissing sessions between members, summersaults, and beer chugging all the while ensuing, the Black Lips prove that this brand of dynamism still exists in rock ‘n’ roll. Now let’s just hope they never grow up. – CRAWDADDY

“Ready for an indie break out….radical politics, inspired riffs, textured harmonies and pure sex appeal“ – Curve Magazine

“Seamlessly fusing art and politics” – Punk Planet

“Hard-driving, politically savvy rock ‘n roll” – Flavorpill

“A powerful new sound” – Heeb Magazine

The Shondes, a Brooklyn, NY quartet taking its name from the Yiddish word for “shame” or “disgrace” has launched a winter tour to preface the release of its debut album, The Red Sea produced by Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu, They Might Be Giants, Book Of Knots) in early 2008. The Shondes’ dramatic rock has been compared to Sleater-Kinney, Patti Smith and Rasputina, but audiences tend to marvel at the band’s urgent, genre-breaching live sound. The Shondes — Temim Fruchter (drums/vocals), Louisa Solomon (bass/vocals), Ian Brannigan (guitar) and Elijah Oberman (violin/vocals) — quickly gained popularity in its native city thanks to its complex melodic song structures combined with rich, intertwined vocals.

The Shondes’ songwriting fuses the various musical traditions of feminist punk, classical, Jewish and queercore, while the band’s vocal melodies move effortlessly from anthemic to haunting — textured by the distinct qualities of each of their voices. The result is a unique sound that is both heartbreaking and hopeful. The high energy of its live shows bring audiences along for the ride, with audience members often singing along and swaying to the punchy rhythms and soaring melodies.

From its formation, The Shondes has maintained a rigorous tour schedule including two national tours, a Midwest mini-tour, regular east coast dates, and festivals such as North by Northeast and Homo A Go Go. The group has shared the stage with indie luminaries Electrelane, Erase Errata, Amy Ray, Mecca Normal, Joe Lally of Fugazi and Lesbians On Ecstasy, among others. The band also organizes events, often in partnership with local activist organizations, such as the Jews Against The Occupation Chanukah Ball and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project’s Valentine’s Day Party. The Shondes’ debut album, The Red Sea will be released on January 8, 2008, following its nationwide winter tour.

For Immediate Release:

KOTTONMOUTH KINGS TO RELEASE ‘GREATEST HIGHS,’ BAND’S FIRST CAREER-SPANNING COLLECTION, ON JANUARY 15, 2008

Compiled by the Band, New 2-CD and Digital Collection Packs 39 Tracks, Including Two Previously Unreleased Songs

New Dates Added to Kottonmouth Kings “Cloud 9 Tour”
***

Hollywood, California – California’s reigning rip-hop originators, Kottonmouth Kings, have partnered with Capitol/EMI for their first-ever career-spanning collection, Greatest Highs. To be released in a 2-CD package and digitally on January 15, 2008, the 39-track set stashes the band’s most smokin’ joints, including singles, album cuts and collaborative tracks from the vaults of Capitol Records and the Kings’ own Suburban Noize Records. In addition to standout hits including “Bump,” “Positive Vibes” and “Suburban Life,” the collection also exclusively features two previously unreleased tracks and a package essay by the group’s founder and emcee/producer, Brad “Daddy” X.

From their 1998 hit single, “Suburban Life,” to cuts from the band’s latest album, Cloud 9, released in August, Greatest Highs spans the Kottonmouth Kings’ career in one sweeping collection. Tracks from all nine of the Kings’ studio albums are featured, including collaborations with Insane Clown Posse, Tech 9 and Cypress Hill, as well as two previously unreleased songs, “Can Anybody Hear Me” and “No Future.”

“We are so consumed by living in the moment and pushing limits that we hardly have time to reflect on this sick adventure we have been on,” says Brad “Daddy” X in his Greatest Highs package essay. “To this day it amazes me what a profound impact the Kings have on people! Maybe it is the brutal honesty or the realness of the band that connects with people. I can’t explain it.”

With 12 years of touring and recording under their belts and more than one million records and concert tickets sold, Kottonmouth Kings manage an established and thriving underground operation that encompasses the band’s own record and merchandise company, Suburban Noize, a self-published fanzine and direct CD, DVD and merchandise sales to their fans around the world.
Kottonmouth Kings have long been a cornerstone of one of today’s most radical music movements in America and beyond. Combining mind-bending sonics, and fusing hip-hop, punk rock, and classic soul, The Kings have innovated and pioneered a unique signature sound that has set them apart from the pack and has fueled the band’s longevity and enduring popularity with a diverse international fan base.

“We have an open-minded, loyal fan base,” said Brad “Daddy” X, who founded the group in 1994. “There are all types of people at a Kottonmouth Kings show – hippies, punkers and hip-hoppers. That’s what’s great about it. You can’t really stereotype it. They’re free-thinking individuals.”

Since leading the charge on the front lines of Southern California’s post-punk and gangsta rap-inspired scene, Kottonmouth Kings have proved their lasting staying power, building on a powerful DIY ethos and redefining the meaning of a self-empowered group. They are an institution in the sub-culture of America, running their own company, touring and releasing albums on their own terms.

THE WHIGS SET TO RELEASE ATO RECORDS DEBUT, MISSION CONTROL

The Whigs are proud to announce the release of their ATO Records debut album, MISSION CONTROL. Set for a January 22, 2008 release, this confident collection of songs follows up the band’s self-released / self-financed album, GIVE ‘EM ALL A BIG FAT LIP, which caught the attention of many, including Rolling Stone Magazine who declared the Athens GA three-piece “the best unsigned band in America.” The Whigs spent most of 2006 and 2007 on the road winning over fans and critics with their full throttle alternative pop / rock which NPR hailed as a perfect combination of “the gravelly rock of The Replacements with the off-kilter pop of Guided By Voices.”

Eager to record their ATO debut, The Whigs entered the legendary Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, CA with producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith). Sonically superior to anything the band has recorded to date, MISSION CONTROL is an album jam-packed with infectious melodies and dynamic rhythms.

Clocking in at 37 minutes, MISSION CONTROL opens up with the urgency and roar of “Like A Vibration” and proceeds into “Production City,” a song full of dancing bass lines and machine gun tight rhythms. “Sleep Sunshine,” a captivating piano-driven song, showcases the band’s intimate side, while the catchy “I Got Ideas” fuses horns and Southern-rock twang. The thunderous pounding of drummer Julian Dorio is a staple throughout, but on the crowd favorite “Right Hand on My Heart,” Dorio’s playing makes it evident why Esquire Magazine named him “Drummer of the Year” in 2007.

The Whigs will spend the rest of 2007 on the road gearing up for the release of MISSION CONTROL.

DOES IT OFFEND YOU, YEAH? TO BE RELEASED IN AMERICA NEAR APRIL ON ALMOST GOLD!

DIOYY have been compared to more dance orientated acts such as Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem and Justice. However, as the NME recognized, they possess a heavier and more live configuration, leaving some to say more akin to Rage Against The Machine and !!!. Rowdy live shows often ending with stage dives and mangled instruments.

“With its fizzling snap-pop basslines, ‘Let’s Make Out’ is an unholy alliance of Muse’s space-axe pyrotechnics and !!!’s long limbed p-funk. This is big-time pop, robo-pal … Does It Offend You, Yeah? have still managed to make the year’s dirtiest anthem. Does it excite us? Oh yes”. -NME

Zookeeper announces additional tour dates in support of critically acclaimed debut album. Former Mineral and The Gloria Record front man’s new band receives much praise for Becoming All Things.

“On the celebratory ‘Trumpets’ and the down-home jam ‘Ballad Of My Friends,’ it sounds like the extended family is genuinely enjoying themselves.” – CMJ

“The mournful piano and organ mesh perfectly with acoustic guitars on the hushed hymn “On High,” while the stomping, trumpet-festooned ‘Ballad Of My Friends’ screams pure joy. Just Like in his former bands, Simpson’s wobbly voice always rings true, conveying that his heart is on his sleeve.” – Alternative Press

“It wouldn’t be too far off to call this classic rock done in the 21st Century, with the barnyard drums and Heartland chords… A promising restart for a gifted songwriter, definitely hints at great things to come.” – Lollipop.com

Austin-based band Zookeeper, led by Chris Simpson – the former songwriter and front man for the groundbreaking original-era emo bands Mineral and The Gloria Record – has just announced additional tour dates to round out 2007. See below for a complete itinerary.

This year has been a highly productive one for the group, bouncing in and out of the Top 10 for months as one of the most blogged about bands on the internet according to aggregator elbo.ws. The praise comes on the heels of Zookeeper’s self-titled EP and recently released debut album Becoming All Things. Alternative Press recently featured the band as well, and previous tours with Umbrellas and The Good Life have been enthusiastically received. Those unable to catch the band’s live show on this round of dates can view the group in action HERE and stream Becoming All Things HERE.

More about Zookeeper:

Sometimes, taking a break can be a very good thing. Chris Simpson, former songwriter and front man for two influential late ‘90s bands, knows a few things about breaking up. After disbanding post-punk emo progenitor Mineral just after the band signed to a major, and taking an indefinite hiatus from shoegazer follow-up The Gloria Record midway through recording a fourth record, he virtually disappeared from the music scene for two years.

It is this quiet period of Simpson’s career that has proven his most prolific to date. It allowed him time to step back, regroup, and remember what he loved about music in the first place – penning songs and performing acoustically, just as he had done as a teenager in his hometown of Denver. He bought and became enchanted with a piano. He dusted off record albums he hadn’t listened to in a decade. He found himself, for the first time in years, brimming with ideas and melodies.

Newly inspired, he resumed songwriting, laying the groundwork for a fresh sound that would grow organically out of an informal gathering of new and old friends making music they loved. Eventually the group packed into an Austin studio to record live: loose, impromptu songs replete with shaking tambourines, exuberant horns, honky-tonk keys, and, at alternating turns, lyrical depth and whimsy. They recorded, in part or whole, spanning several months and several studios, over 40 songs. Simpson had fallen in love with music again, simply by stepping away from it.

The new body of work – the recently released Zookeeper EP and this scintillating debut LP, Becoming All Things (Belle City Pop!) – boasts a supporting cast of musicians comprised of former Mineral and Gloria Record members and new collaborators (indie-folk artist Alex Dupree, Sad Accordions, and Zykos), and brings Simpson back to his roots. It is this self-possession gained from solitude, this tipping of the hat to where he’s been while moving assuredly forward, that gives Simpson’s latest offering its buoyant, timeless appeal.

“I’m just thrilled to have another entry in Simpson’s canon. He’s been gone too long and this is a welcome return from one of my favorite songwriters.” – Liepaper.com

“…some of the jangliest, loose-limbed pop music of the year so far. In just one listen, you’ll get a taste for his spirit and passion about music.” – Quick Before It Melts

PHIL RAMONE IS THE “GENIUS” (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 10.22) BEHIND ANTICIPATED WINTER PROJECTS ‘AUGUST RUSH’, 2008 MUSICARES, AND NEW ALBUMS FROM RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, ANNE MURRAY, AND SHELBY LYNNE

PHIL RAMONE IS THE “GENIUS” (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 10.22) BEHIND ANTICIPATED WINTER PROJECTS ‘AUGUST RUSH’, 2008 MUSICARES, AND NEW ALBUMS FROM RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, ANNE MURRAY, AND SHELBY LYNNE

With the success of Tony Bennett’s ‘Duets: An American Classic’ (Columbia), ‘We All Love Ella’ (Verve), the corresponding PBS Special ‘We Love Ella! A Tribute To The First Lady Of Song’ and now the recently released memoir Making Records: The Scenes Behind the Music (Hyperion), one would think 2007 is already the year of Phil Ramone, but there’s even more to come from the protean producer. The next four months bring a medley of new music productions for film, stage and CD.

*’AUGUST RUSH’ WARNER BROS FILM OUT NOV 21st, 2007
Ramone produced three tracks sung by actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers for this musically narrated drama. Ramone served as the music producer for the concert prior to the films premiere featuring performances by The Berklee College of Music Orchestra and Choir, IMPACT’s Charles Mack, cellist Jenn Kuhn, and guitarists Doug Smith and Christ Trapper with Berklee solo vocalists Jennifer Hirsch, and Kevin Ross and solo instrumentalists Alex Han and Alexis Grapsas.

*RUFUS WAINWRIGHT ‘RUFUS DOES JUDY AT CARNEGIE HALL’ OUT DEC 4TH, 2007 ON GEFFEN
Ramone helped Wainwright recreate Judy Garland’s famed 1961 Carnegie Hall concert in its entirety on this two disc 27 live track set.

*ANNE MURRAY ‘DUETS: FRIENDS & LEGENDS’ OUT JAN 15th, 2008 ON EMI
Some of the finest female voices intermingle on this album of Murray’s classic songs. Recorded in Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto, Ramone paired Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Nelly Furtado, Isabelle Boulay, kd lang, Celtic Woman, Carole King, Olivia Newton-John, Emmylou Harris, Jann Arden, Shelby Lynne, Sarah Brightman, Celine Dion, Amy Grant, Indigo Girls, Dawn Langstroth (Anne’s daughter) and a previously recorded Dusty Springfield track with Anne.

*SHELBY LYNNE ‘JUST A LITTLE LOVIN” OUT FEB 5th, 2008 ON LOST HIGHWAY
Lynne explains how she chose Ramone for this homage to country legend Dusty Springfield, “I needed someone who would understand that these songs stand the test of time, and that Dusty Springfield is timeless…. Then one afternoon [my manager] Betty mentioned the guy who would understand me. He would allow me more room in the studio, and not just being the girl singer. He would choose the right band. So, I picked up the phone and called Phil Ramone.”

*2008 MUSICARES PERSON OF THE YEAR HONORING ARETHA FRANKLIN FEB 8th, 2008
Ramone is currently putting together an all-star lineup for this anticipated and prestigious annual event held in Los Angeles two days before the GRAMMY Awards. Honoring the seventeen-time GRAMMY-winning recording artists Aretha Franklin is sure to produce a regal line up.

80’s Psychedelic Death Rock group Soul Merchants — featuring later 16 Horsepower, Blood Axis member and NON, Death In June producer Bob Ferbrache — reissues legendary discography.

80’s Psychedelic Death Rock group Soul Merchants — featuring later 16 Horsepower, Blood Axis member and NON, Death In June producer Bob Ferbrache — reissues legendary discography.

Soul Merchants’ music is best described as the band dubbed it 20 years ago: psychedelic death rock. On the surface, one could consider the quartet Denver’s version of Sisters of Mercy, but even in the ‘80s these guys were too old to be the new hip goth act and their ‘60s psych and ‘70s glam influences shined brightly over the darkness. Too punk for the goths and too goth for the punks, Soul Merchants never fit well into the scene yet still collected a devoted fan-base during its brief 1985-’87 tenure. After an exhausting two years with over a hundred songs recorded, Soul Merchants threw in the towel and performed its final show at the inaugural South By Southwest music festival in Austin, TX.

This double disc set (a 15-track sampler has been issued to the media) contains 80 minutes of music on each disc, compiling the best material from the group’s four-track recording sessions. The songs come from Soul Merchants’ cassette releases only, as the Gates of Heaven LP will likely be reissued as its own entity in the future. Each song was remixed and remastered from the original tapes at Absinthe Studio by former Soul Merchant Bob Ferbrache.

Ferbrache also performed in the experimental band Human Head Transplant simultaneously with Soul Merchants. He subsequently went on to create most music in Blood Axis (a collaboration with Lords of Chaos author Michael Moynihan), joined 16 Horsepower and Tarantella, and filled in for Slim Cessna’s Auto Club. However, he is perhaps best known for his production work for NON, Death In June, Berlin, Bow Wow Wow, and, in Soul Merchant days, The Fluid, Warlock Pinchers and Bum Kon (whose highly-collectible early recordings will also be reissued in early 2008 on Smooch Records.)

JAMES BLUNT UNVEILS THE 2008 LOST SOULS TOUR

PRESENTED BY VH1 “YOU OUGHTA KNOW” AND FEATURING SPECIAL GUEST “YOU OUGHTA KNOW” ARTIST SARA BAREILLES

GLOBE-SPANNING ITINERARY HITS NORTH AMERICA IN FEBRUARY

TICKET PRESALE BEGINS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH, WITH PUBLIC ON SALE SET FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH

Custard/Atlantic recording artist James Blunt has announced details of his upcoming North American tour, part of his extensive “2008 LOST SOULS TOUR.” The highly anticipated headlining tour celebrates the release of Blunt’s new album, “ALL THE LOST SOULS.” Presented by VH1 “You Oughta Know”, the tour kicks off in February ’08 and will feature special guest Sara Bareilles.

“I am really pleased to be returning to the U.S. on my 2008 world tour,” said Blunt. “We’ve had some of our most memorable shows in America on past tours, and I am so excited to be playing out some of the material from my new album, ‘ALL THE LOST SOULS,’ for my U.S. fans.”
The month-long LOST SOULS tour is set to kick off on February 4, 2008 at Seattle’s Moore Theatre. From there, the British superstar will play a series of major dates across North America, culminating on March 4th at Atlanta’s The Tabernacle (see attached itinerary). Pre-sale tickets will be available via Blunt’s official fan site www.jamesblunt.com tomorrow, November 14th, with remaining tickets going on sale to the public on Saturday, November 17th.

As with 2006’s hugely successful “Back To Bedlam World Tour,” Blunt will once again use the tour as an opportunity to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the international medical humanitarian organization whose life-saving work he first encountered while stationed with the British army in Kosovo, where he served as a reconnaissance officer with the NATO peacekeeping force. A personal, one-on-one aftershow meet-and-greet with James will be auctioned after each and every show, to both increase awareness and generate much-needed monies for DWB/MSF.

What’s more, Blunt is being joined on tour in his native UK and in Europe by Friends of the Earth, the influential grassroots network that has for decades been at the forefront of high-profile efforts to create a more healthy, just world. Friends of the Earth’s role on the road has been to assist James in increasing awareness of global climate change, while also putting pressure on the world’s governments to begin acting on the issue.
James recently filmed the companion video for his new single, “Same Mistake,” with famed director Jonas Akerlund (Madonna, The Prodigy, Maroon 5). The video, which is garnering much attention for its thematic elements, premiered this past weekend on VH1’s Top 20 countdown. The video can be viewed via the following link: http://vsyndication.wmg.com/tip.html?bcpid=824272798&bctid=1289940352.

Blunt is currently slated to appear on a number of high-profile TV programs in the coming weeks. The appearances begin on November 18th when he is a presenter at the 35th annual American Music Awards. He will then perform “Same Mistake” on The Late Show with David Letterman on November 20th followed on November 23rd by a morning performance on Live with Regis and Kelly. On December 11th James will appear on The View, and then on CBS’ annual seasonal celebration, A Home For The Holidays, scheduled for broadcast on December 21st. The performances follow Blunt’s recent string of major television appearances heralding the release of “ALL THE LOST SOULS,” including the Today show, Ellen DeGeneres, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, as well as Nightline and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“ALL THE LOST SOULS” was recorded and mixed in Los Angeles with producer Tom Rothrock, who also oversaw Blunt’s history-making debut, “BACK TO BEDLAM.” The collection features several songs that became road-tested favorites in the course of Blunt’s marathon touring during 2006 – including “1973,” “I Really Want You,” “Same Mistake,” and “Annie.” The album has also drawn expansive critical praise. “He shows the abandon and confidence of a long-term artist,” raved Billboard. “Sounding like John Mayer channeling Jeff Buckley in the middle of Abbey Road, each of Blunt’s songs are infused with love, loss and confusion, but are rendered so elegantly that it sounds like he’s got everything figured out…There’s not a misstep throughout.”
