S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival 2008 – Complete Line-Up Announced 151 BANDS, 12 VENUES, 16 STAGES AND ONE HELL OF A DAY!
A complete roster of 151 musical artists slated for this year’s S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival – including dozens of the best and brightest from the Niagara Region’s musical talent pool – has been announced via the official S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival website at
Silverstein, illScarlett, Canadian punk legends Teenage Head and St. Catharines’ Black Lungs – fronted by Alexisonfire’s Wade MacNeil – are just a few of the 151 performers descending upon St. Catharines’ downtown core for the one-day, all-ages, 13th annual S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival on Sunday, June 29th, 2008.
The S.C.E.N.E. website offers complete information about the festival, including news, artist details, schedule, online auto-scheduler, videos, photos, ticket information, a map of the event location and more.
While still having a strong focus on Niagara-based independent acts as the first modest S.C.E.N.E. Festival did with 20 local acts on three stages in 1995, this year’s 13th edition of the festival is the largest and most diverse undertaking in S.C.E.N.E’s history. Last year’s festival attracted over 6,000 music fans and featured 147 bands on 15 stages in 12 venues and two outdoor stages, all within walking distance of each other in downtown St. Catharines. S.C.E.N.E. is a full day event that hosts numerous local, national and international musical acts of all genres including punk, metal, hip-hop, ska, country, Celtic, independent pop, acoustic and good old rock ‘n’ roll.
Having gained an international reputation as one of the top-flight independent music events in North America, the festival received over 400 artist submissions this year from across Canada and the United States. The S.C.E.N.E. online compilation of more than 40 S.C.E.N.E. artists on this year’s schedule will be given away for free, to the first 2,500 people through the gate, when the doors open at S.C.E.N.E.’s Market Square headquarters at noon on the day of the festival.
Over the last 13 years, the S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival has hosted numerous independent acts that have risen to the top of the Canadian music industry, including St. Catharines’ own Alexisonfire, City and Colour, Billy Talent, Neverending White Lights, Bedouin Soundclash and Silverstein alongside hundreds of independent acts. This year’s festival will showcase the talents of independent acts such as Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker (USS), Magneta Lane, Shad K, Zaki Ibrahim, Lights, Ceremonial Snips and tons of great indie acts. From ska to funk, metal to punk and all points in between, this event truly captures and celebrates the independent spirit of music.
Along with the music at this year’s S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival, there will be a marketplace set up in the Market Square pavilion for independent music labels, merchandise from participating bands and the goods and services of numerous vendors and local artisans. Festival-goers have the chance to flex their creative muscles by participating in a unique festival event, the sixth annual Mix Tape/CD Exchange.
Advance tickets are $25 each and are available through Ticketmaster.ca, as well as numerous locations throughout Southern Ontario. A complete list of locations selling hard tickets is available at www.scenemusicfestival.com. Those who are unable to obtain advance tickets can gain admittance on the day of the festival for $30 at the Market Square admissions area. Everyone receives a wristband, which allows all-ages access to all venues at all times, contingent on capacity.
