Chicago fourpiece Light Pollution are on tour out East in support of their new self-titled debut EP, which can be downloaded here. Their full-length debut LP will follow in the new year.

Formed in a cold, quiet town on the outskirts of Chicago, Light Pollution is the product of singer/songwriter Jim Cicero. Jim, along with close friend Matt Evertt, started the band with one central theme in mind: progress. Never stagnant, and constantly expanding their musical horizons, Light Pollution’s music is a kaleidoscope of sound, encompassing everything from backward tapes to dissonant piano rolls to even crunching leaves. Jim writes new material almost every day and the band continues to work and re-work many of the songs from their catalogue. In recent interviews their music has been compared to a, “more stripped-down Arcade Fire,” Wilco, and Band of Horses.

With Jim backed by Matt on the drums, the pair soon found themeslves joining up with bassist Bojan Jovanovic. Shortly thereafter, Jim met viola/keys contributor Heather Rice and something unknowingly sparked between them. Heather soon came into the LP fold and made an immediate contribution, rounding out the group perfectly.

With the band now fully formed, Jim and Matt moved into an old warehouse to record their forthcoming full- length LP. Every musical talent that is displayed on their self-released 22 minute-EP will be elaborated upon on their forthcoming LP (set to come out in early 2009): ornate orchestral movements comprised of string and horn arrangements, experimentalism, folk-twinged rockers, harmonious vocals, deep, personal lyrics.

The lo-fi group’s unusual instrumentation can best be comprehended on the above single “Firewood.”
