THE KING KHAN AND BBQ SHOW TO FINISH OUT 2008 ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

THE KING KHAN AND BBQ SHOW TO FINISH OUT 2008 ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR!

King Khan and Mark Sultan (aka BBQ) get together to bring their show on the roadŠ

HEAR THE KING KHAN AND BBQ SHOW:
http://www.myspace.com/thekingkhanbbqshow

King Khan and BBQ join forces for a US tour hitting the road October thru early December 2008. Their electrifying live show, once again proves that rock and roll still has a beating pulse, it’s just harder to find under all the cumulative flab.

Lucky you, the King Khan and BBQ Show will grace our good shores and dumpy rock club stages, this time in support of their new Fat Possum released 45 rpm 7″ single, “ANIMAL PARTY” b/w “God of Raisins”.

The limited edition, one-of-a-kind single features a gatefold sleeve with a 15 page-coloring book featuring the artwork of renown Montreal Artist Mathieu Trudel, will be in stores during the first week of November. Khan (Vocals, guitar) and Sultan (Vocals, guitar, kick drum, and snare) two heavies in their own right, have been making music together and separately for over 15 years. Mark is known for his work as the one-man band extraordinaire BBQ, and Khan with his Fabulous Shrines. Years ago the two joined forces in the now legendary Spaceshits. As The King Kahn and BBQ show, the two bring their combined efforts on a cross-country tour that takes them from the mean city streets of Detroit all the way to the frozen barren plains of Ottawa.

Because they each stay busy with their own respective bands, recordings and tours, a King Khan and BBQ Show tour is about as rare as a Sarah Palin visit to an international departures terminal.

Selective biographies:
Mark Sultan, aka BBQ, currently resides in Montreal, and makes music as Mark Sultan. He has a completed new record, the follow up to his acclaimed “Sultanic Verses” LP(In The Red), due for release in the Fall. Mark has also played in Los Sexareenos, The Mind Controlls, The Spaceshits (With Khan) and as BBQ solo.

King Khan is currently living in Berlin with his wife and 2 children, and has a second music project, the famed King Khan and the Shrines, a 10-piece band complete with horn section and go-go dancer. They are working on a new record and toured the USA for the first time this Summer (Which included a show stealing spot at the Pitchfork Music FestivalŠyou shoulda been there).

30 SHOWS IN 30 DAYS: THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT TO PLAY A UNIQUE UK TOUR

Los Angeles indie upstarts the Airborne Toxic Event are set to embark on their first UK Tour as they race across the UK to play an unheard-of 30 shows in 30 days.

The UK is no doubt going to be experiencing a great live band. The Orange County Register wrote in a recent review of the group’s show with the Fratellis (part of their current tour): “the real excitement this night came from a first encounter with opening act the Airborne Toxic Event, a striking quintet from the Los Feliz area that has been racking up next-big-thing talk from Rolling Stone and the L.A. press all year.”

The band has also been lauded by publications as diverse as Newsweek and USA Today to Spin and the NME.

The Airborne Toxic Event have enormous grassroots support. The band’s first single “Sometime Around Midnight” underwent the rarest of occurrences when it was added to rotation at KROQ and Indie 103.1 prior to having a record label or a manager.

“The best debut CD of 2008.” The Boston Herald

“Occasionally you get lucky and stumble across a band at the very moment they ignite the engines and blast off into the heavens. The Airborne Toxic Event practically bursts at the seams and spills its steaming guts across the stage.” NME

ANNOUNCING NEW “CHOKE” MUSIC VIDEO CLIP FEATURING “THE RULES” FROM BEN KWELLER DIGITAL-ONLY “CHOKE” SOUNDTRACK NOW AVAILABLE ON ATO RECORDS “CHOKE” HITS THEATERS NATIONWIDE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

ANNOUNCING NEW “CHOKE” MUSIC VIDEO CLIP FEATURING “THE RULES” FROM BEN KWELLER DIGITAL-ONLY “CHOKE” SOUNDTRACK NOW AVAILABLE ON ATO RECORDS “CHOKE” HITS THEATERS NATIONWIDE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

The creators of “CHOKE” are proud to announce the new music video clip that features Ben Kweller’s “The Rules,” his contribution to the film’s soundtrack. As a collection of snapshots spotlighting a few of the film’s notable scenes, “The Rules” compliments the film’s unbelievably quirky personality through Kweller’s hard-edged, guitar-heavy offering.

The album, a digital-only release on ATO Records, contains seven songs from the film and eight others that are significant to actor, director and screen writer Clark Gregg’s vision while he was making it. Highlights include previously recorded songs by the likes of Radiohead, Death Cab For Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, The Fiery Furnaces, and The Twilights Singers. Most notable additions are the previously unreleased or rare tracks that appear on the record, among them “Orgasm Addict” by The Buzzcocks as sung by the band’s original singer Howard Devoto, a great version of The Doors’ “Crystal Ship” by the incomparable Nicole Atkins and The Sea, and the original version by The Natural History of Spoon’s current hit single, “Don’t You Ever.”

Fox Searchlight Pictures and ATO Pictures present “Choke,” a Contrafilm/ATO Pictures Production, based on the novel by maverick author Chuck Palahniuk (“Fight Club”). Actor-turned-director Gregg shows he is as adept behind the camera as he is in front of it with this wickedly comedic tale of Victor Mancini, con artist, sex addict, Colonial village re-enactor, angst-filled son, serial restaurant choker — and unsuspecting romantic antihero for our unsettling times.

The film will be in theatres on September 26 and features an ensemble cast including Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston, Kelly Macdonald, Brad William Henke and Jonah Bobo. Nathan Larson composed the score.

You might associate the name Matthew Dear with minimal techno and the dancefloor but Matthew Dear is smarter than that and cannot be pigeonholed so easily – over the last year and half since the initial release of his sophomore album “Asa Breed” (re-released in March this year as a special “black edition) Matthew has proved himself to be one of the hardest working acts in the US – no longer definable as merely an electronic act with his live trio Matthew Dears Big Hands he’s become a bonafide front man of equal stature with the best in indie rock. After tons of dates at major festivals worldwide the trio is back on the road this fall. Even if you’ve seen them before you should treat yourself to checking them again – developed far beyond expectations this is one unmissable show.

“From start to finish Matthew Dear’s Big Hands had the entire room moving to communal favourites from Asa Breed and Leave Luck To Heaven. Between songs I overheard a girl next to me shout to her friend, “He’s so much better than I thought he would be!” Of course he is! I, too, thought I was just going to hear a talented techno producer live. None of us expected a rock star who could easily have commanded an audience many times the size at an outdoor summer festival.” Review of Matthew Dear’s Big Hands performance at ICA London

* Matthew Dear’s Big Hands is a trio consisting of Matthew Dear as front man / vocalist, guitarist John Gaviglio and drummer Mark Maynard

* Matthew Dear’s Big Hands last tour was opening for Hot Chip in the UK

* A new video for Matthew Dear’s song “Pom Pom” will be available in October

* Matthew Dear also performs as a DJ under his own name and live laptop techno dance floor sets under the alias AUDION. Matthew Dear’s Big Hands is
influenced by records like the Brian Eno / David Byrne classic “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” and bears more in common with dance / rock acts than it does
his full on dance floor material.

* During the period “Asa Breed” was being completed Matthew cited Tony Allen, Phillip K. Dick, Arthur Russell, Jack White and William Cotton Calcutt as artists he was listening to

* Matthew Dear will release the first mix CD under his own name on OCTOBER 28th – it’s called BODY LANGUAGE Vol 7 and will be released on the GET PHYSICAL label – it
does feature a brand new track by Matthew.

* This year Matthew has remixed the likes of Spoon, Sasha, Ellen Allien and Dubfire – Matthew has also just completed new remixes for Liquid Liquid (“Optimo” for Domino UK out October 6th) \
and a remix of classic “Plastic Dreams” (for R&S)

* House music Remixes of Matthew Dear’s classic single “Dog Days” single have just been released on Spectral Sound

SAVING ABEL SET TO ROCK FIRST OBAMA / MCCAIN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE Southern Rockers Will Play At First Presidential Debate On September 26th At The University of Mississippi

#1 Rock Smash “Addicted” Heating Up Top 40 Radio While New Single “18 Days” Is Climbing The Rock Charts

Currently On The Road With Buckcherry And Shinedown For Fall Tour

After spending the summer opening for some of the biggest names in rock music, Virgin Records rock-quintet Saving Abel have announced that they will open for the biggest names in politics, playing at the first Obama / McCain Presidential debate on Sep. 26 at the University of Mississippi. The free show which begins at 12:00pm also includes Paul Thorn, Josh Kelley and the North Mississippi Allstars. Saving Abel will make a pit-stop at the U of M to play the pre-debate show before their gig at Big Spring Jam in Huntsville, AL that evening, part of their current outing with Buckcherry and Shinedown (full schedule below).

“We’re excited to play at the debate and show our support for the election process as we believe that the outcome will truly affect the lives of all Americans,” said frontman Jared Weeks.

Undoubtedly one of the biggest new rock bands of 2008, Saving Abel have been steadily climbing radio and sales charts all year and they show no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Their debut single, the run-away, multi-format, smash-hit “Addicted” has been heard on radio airwaves for 30 weeks and continues to work its way up the charts. It spent 4 weeks at #1 at mainstream rock radio, was #2 for 10 consecutive weeks at active rock radio and peaked at #7 on the alternative chart. “Addicted” has found a whole new life as Top 40 radio gets hooked, where it is currently #21 on the airplay chart and quickly moving upward. The single impacts that Adult Top 40 format on Sep. 30th. The sultry video for “Addicted” which made its debut on playboy.com is also enjoying multi-format success. The clip has seen airplay on MTV2, Fuse, and Music Choice and was recently added to the play list of MTV’s pop channel MTV Hits. Saving Abel’s second single is a monster ballad entitled “18 Days” and it is beginning to follow in its predecessor’s footsteps. In a few short weeks of airplay at active rock radio, it is currently ranked #24 and was one of the most added songs at alternative radio last week when it officially impacted at the format.

Saving Abel’s self-titled debut also continues to reach new chart peaks. Since its March 11th release, the album spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart before debuting on the Billboard 200 in July. The album hit a new high this week at #53 on the chart and has scanned over 160,000 units. “Addicted” has sold over 435,000 digital singles and holds its highest chart position to date this week, jumping from #48 to #38 on the singles chart.

Saving Abel – named after the Biblical sibling of Cain – was formed by Jared Weeks and guitarist Jason Null in 2004 in their hometown of Corinth, Mississippi. Now based in Memphis, Tennessee, the band’s lineup includes guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor and drummer Blake Dixon. Combining influences of southern rock, hard rock and alternative music, the band was first heard on a 2005 EP, produced by Skidd Mills (12 Stones, Saliva, Submersed).

zerobridge There We Were, Now Here We Are for September

NYC band zerobridge continues to release a new track every month from July until with end of the year with September’s previously unreleased and not available until now selection.

Lead singer/songwriter Din comments on the new zerobridge single: “There We Were…” is a tune that I dug out from the vault from like 10 years ago. It was a song I had written with a friend of mine at the time for a different band. It was shafted but I had always loved it and kept it in the back of my mind. I finally decided to revisit the song and wrote a new arrangement and lyrics. It ended up fitting really nicely with the rest of our music and has since become a live favorite. Someone once said it’s the best Replacements song they’ve heard since the Replacements broke up!

I guess the song is some ways about coming to terms with the past or people in your past. What happens when you come face to face with someone you lost touch with or wanted to forget? You want to be as graceful as possible but it’s impossible to completely forget all that happened. Living well is ultimately the best revenge, right? Interesting note, there’s a reference in the song to Oasis for all the trainspotters.”

zerobridge ANNOUNCE A NEW SINGLE RELEASE EVERY MONTH
FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2008 STARTING IN JULY WITH “LATE BLOOMER”

SEPTEMBER’S TRACK IS “THERE WE WERE, NOW HERE WE ARE”
AVAILABLE AS A FREE DOWNLOAD AT MYSPACE.COM/ZEROBRIDGE

It may seem like a gimmick, but zerobridge are self-releasing a single every month for the remainder of 2008 because there is no other alternative. Din explains, “We’ve been STRICTLY independent for as long as we’ve been together and maybe even more than we would like to be. We’ve accumulated a catalog of songs that no one’s heard outside our regional fan base and have not recorded until now. It seems that in this digital age for music, the single is the format of choice by the fans – and what better way for a band like us to establish ourselves and get our music heard than to use the internet as our distribution company. It’s still a challenge. Creating music still takes time and money, but it’s on our terms and while I still think they are necessary, we don’t have to deal with labels – just directly with music fans.”

It’s not often you hear about a band like zerobridge. Lead singer/guitarist and songwriter Mubashir “Din” Mohi-ud-Din and drummer Mohsin “Mo” Mohi-ud-Din are two brothers whose parents are from the disputed territory of Kashmir, nestled between northern India and Pakistan. Greg “The Quota”, seasoned NYC bass player, and guitarist Jay Barclay (Ben Kweller, Damnwells), round out the quartet who have been playing their own unique brand of melodic, guitar driven rock n’ roll for the last three years. With two independent releases behind them, zerobridge released the Havre de Grace EP that illustrates the band’s penchant for classic song writing and a passion to become the only band that matters.

The name zerobridge comes from an actual bridge in Kashmir’s capital, Srinagar, which earned the lesser known epithet of the “the city of seven bridges.” The story goes that when they built an 8th bridge, no one knew what to call the original first bridge. The solution is a case of pragmatics taken to the extreme: they decided to name it zerobridge. The bridge itself is a sentimental place for anyone familiar with Kashmir. Just across the bridge, after passing through military checkpoints and barbed wire fences, is a cafe called the Zero Inn; a place where the bothers, family and friends go when reunited in Kashmir to hang out and have “cold coffees” (which are like frapuchinos, but far better according to the brothers).

Other songs on the EP include the title track, “Havre de Grace,” the name of a town in northern Maryland, close to where the brothers grew up, meaning “Harbor of Grace.” The incendiary political satire of “The Shake” sheds light on the hypocrisies of religious extremism. A reworking of “Suffering Moses,” originally off the bands first LP, is an unabashedly beautiful ode to Kashmir which is followed by the razor edged bravado of “This is My Version,” a live favorite that sounds like a mashup of the Smiths and the ragged snarl of Iggy Pop. Mo passionately adds, “No gimmicks. We put our hearts, souls and sweat into whatever we do. It’s about love, war, and curiosity I suppose. It’s just painfully true, good rock n’ roll.”
