DEBUT ALBUM CHARTS AT # 9 ON BILLBOARD’S HEATSEEKERS
UH HUH HER’s debut album COMMON REACTION (Nettwerk)-hailed early on by the Los Angeles Times as “an electro-pop feast characterized by layers of overlapping vocals” (5/29/08)–has entered Billboard’s Heatseekers chart (8/30/08) at #9 upon its release August 19. The album is an exciting and seamless modern rock disc that captivates the listener from the opening notes of its pulsing debut single “Not A Love Song”-the video for which world premiered in early August on mtvU and LOGO networks–and effortlessly charms its way through to the evocative piano-touched finale “Dreamer.” These songs and more will be performed on UH HUH HER’s national headlining tour this fall.
Kicking off October 17 in Solana Beach, CA, UH HUH HER’s CAMILA GREY (lead vocal/keys/synth/guitars/programmed drums) and LEISHA HAILEY (vocals/synth) will be joined by drummer Josh Kane for a 15-date tour across the U.S. with three dates in Canada. Produced by Al Clay (Pixies, Blur, Pink) along with Camila Grey, COMMON REACTION is continuing to build critical momentum. “As if born from the soundtrack of as-yet-unreleased popular movie, Uh Huh Her’s debut album, Common Reaction, has all the necessary components to become big…” wrote Linnea Covington of NYPress.com (8/27/08), while David Bond of Big Shot magazine in the fall issue stated, “…the energy Uh Huh Her capture on their debut is all their own. ‘Not A Love Song’ is an explosive opener, with an addictive chorus of ethereal melodies and a drum beat that demands movement. The electricity continues on, especially on ‘Wait Another Day,’ ‘Covered,’ and ‘So Long…Uh Huh Her do a fine job of balancing their elements and make each song like in taste, but not boring.”

MIKOTO SIGNS WITH TORQUE RECORDS SET TO RELEASE WE ARE THE ARCHITECTS OCT 14TH
Orange County, CA melodic hardcore act, MIKOTO, have announced today a deal with Torque Records who will release their debut full length, WE ARE THE ARCHITECTS, on October 14th. The band – Ray Harkins (vocals), Matt Moody (guitar/vocals), Martin Diaz (guitar), Kelly Orr (bass), and Max Cuzor (drums) – have posted two songs from the forthcoming album on their MySpace.
MIKOTO has built a fervent buzz since their inception in late 2004 with relentless touring alongside Horse The Band, Misery Signals, Saosin and Chiodos to name a few. In 2005, the band released a self-titled EP via Level Plane garnering positive critical acclaim from outlets such as Decibel (“…the band’s sound, while employing popular elements like singing and screaming, defies categorization”), Alternative Press (“Not only are their hearts in the right place, but so is their musical ability… refreshing in a scene that’s become watered down”) and Punknews.org (4 out of 5, “Mikoto rips through these 5 songs with the ferocity of a rabid lion loose on an antelope farm”). The band didn’t stray too far from their sound on the EP when it came time to write WE ARE THE ARCHITECTS. “It’s an obvious extension of what the band was doing on our EP,” said Harkins. “It is pretty similar, but with this record we have definitely utilized Matt’s clean vocals a lot more. These songs still represent the same kind of ‘sound’ we’ve had, just a bit more well structured,” added Diaz.
The five-piece recorded WE ARE THE ARCHITECTS in just 25 days with producer & Saosin guitarist, Beau Burchell (The Bronx, Name Taken, The Bled) amidst his busy touring schedule. “We would send him demo recordings online and he would listen to them on tour and give us his feedback,” Harkins described the process. “Beau was instrumental in the process of getting this record together. The record would have sounded drastically different if we recorded with anyone else.” In agreement, Diaz expressed, “Beau helped us look at each song as a whole and not the parts individually.”
More than just an album title, Harkins elaborated, “WE ARE THE ARCHITECTS was inspired by the idea that we as individuals build, create and attempt to mold our lives into better versions of what they used to be. We wanted to visually capture the idea of each person being an ‘architect’ and creating their own future and destiny.” Through their lyrics, the band addresses the current music scene and how it has affected them. “There are those who really are passionate about what this music scene is about and should not let the bad things outweigh the positive aspects.”
Even with MIKOTO’s many options for releasing WE ARE THE ARCHITECTS, Harkins explained, “Torque was really supportive and above all enthusiastic about our band and releasing the record. They really just want to spread our name in a very organic manner.” Sharing the love, Torque Records owner, Kevin Gales, stated, “Mikoto is a world-class band who has created an unforgettable record. The guys had a bunch of options open to them and we’re far beyond fortunate for this opportunity.

Hear Music announced today that it will release James Taylor’s exceptional collection of covers from notable recording artists from the fifties, sixties and seventies. The album is aptly titled ‘Covers’ and will be available at all traditional retail outlets and Starbucks Company-operated locations in the U.S. and Canada on September 30.
“An album of other peoples’ music is something I’ve been wanting to do for years,” says Taylor. “I’ve enjoyed performing these songs over the years but to record them live in a room with these incredible musicians was just extraordinary.”
The album was recorded last January when James Taylor gathered his ‘Band of Legends’ for a rare 10-day recording session in a converted barn on his property in western Massachusetts. Band arrangements of material featured on the album include covers of Big Mama Thornton’s version of “Hound Dog,” Junior Walker’s “(I’m A) Road Runner” and “Wichita Lineman,” (one of the most revered country songs penned by Jimmy Webb). These songs were improvised on the spot and recorded live with some of the best players in popular music.
The recording sessions included musical heavyweights Luis Conte, Michael Landau, Jeff Babko, Lou Marini, Arnold McCuller, Jimmy Johnson, David Lasley, Walt Fowler, Andrea Zonn, Kate Markowitz, Steve Gadd, and Larry Goldings. James Taylor and his ‘Band of Legends’ have been previewing the new material this summer to rave reviews.
Over the course of his career, James Taylor has sold over 40 million albums, and won over 40 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards as well as five GRAMMY® Awards. Taylor’s first “Greatest Hits” album earned him the RIAA’s elite Diamond Award, given for sales in excess of 10 million units in the United States. In 2000, Taylor was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame. In February 2006, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences named Taylor its MUSICARES Person of the Year.
James Taylor was recently nominated for an Emmy for the PBS – Great Performances broadcast of his One Man Band, a CD/DVD set of live recordings which Rolling Stone Magazine described as “an artistic snapshot of his life” and career to date.

LILA DOWNS RELEASES NEW ALBUM “SHAKE AWAY” TODAY ACCLAIMED MEXICAN-AMERICAN SINGER SET TO EMBARK UPON 10-CITY U.S. TOUR
Exploring and expressing Mexico’s rich culture has been a lifelong passion for Lila Downs. On Shake Away, Downs takes listeners on a journey that’s both intensely personal and vividly universal. Recorded in New York and Mexico City, the songs range from the pointed “Minimum Wage” to the mystical “Silent Thunder” to a cover of Lucinda Williams’ “I Envy The Wind” in English and Spanish (“Yo Envidio El Viento”) versions.
On Shake Away Lila invites a group of special guests, including the legendary Argentinean singer Mercedes Sosa on a duet of her song “Tierra de Luz” (Land of Light); longtime amigo Ruben Albarran from Café Tacuba joins Lila on “Perro Negro’ (“Black Dog”); and on a cover of “Black Magic Woman, Lila switches between Spanish and English with the help of acclaimed singer/guitarist and label mate, Raul Midon.
To bring her vision and songs on Shake Away to fruition, along with her seven-man band, La Misteriosa, and producers Paul Cohen (also her collaborator and husband), Aneiro Tano and Brian Lynch, Downs plays guitar and percussion. The band utilizes traditional instruments including accordion, harp and clarinet. The trumpet, trombone and tuba appear in several arrangements, bringing the sound somewhere between Mexico and New Orleans.
Though many new songs address the heated topics of immigration, political justice, and transformation, Downs’ vulnerability, compassion and humor are also clear, her siren song irresistible on Shake Away. From the Beat poet-style of ‘Truth” to the spare dolorous “Yo Envidio El Vento”– which is followed up the almost-carnival atmosphere of “Perro Negro”–Shake Away is a triumph.
With a voice that is varied in color and range, Lila Downs cuts a striking figure live as well – she embodies the spirit of her music with an emotion-drenched physicality. She will be on tour this fall in support of Shake Away (dates below).

After several blistering performances that have seen them sell out venues on both sides of the Atlantic, including 2 consecutive nights at London’s Brixton Academy and NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, along with smash hit performances two consecutive years at SXSW 07 & 08, The Pigeon Detectives are coming back to the states. One can say it’s due to popular demand, and we’re just saying, it’s about time.
About time indeed, Spin snapped them for their summer issue at a massive show at Millennium Square in their hometown of Leeds. Meanwhile they’ve been playing to massive crowds all summer at Glastonbury, V Festival, T In the Park and an exclusive set at Leeds Festival. The band has now announced a show at London’s Alexandra Palace. With its capacity of up to 14,000 people, by comparison its almost appropriate to say that a trek around the US to the likes of the Abbey Pub in Chicago and The Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn in nothing more than a van or by train would be a bit shabby. Not to these guys though, they just do what it takes to bring their monstrous live sound to those that yearn for nothing short of pure musical energy set in an intimate environment.
“singer Matt Bowen causes mayhem, climbing speaker stacks, setting off fire extinguishers and demanding (and getting) full-scale crowd invasions. The result is an exhilarating spectacle.” Drowned in Sound
“The band’s enthusiasm was equally matched by the crowd’s, with the audience dancing as much as the lead singer (“It’s called bouncing”), and with what seemed like the whole room singing the line “going out with” from the chorus of “I Found Out.” And though not unexpected, the floor turned into an outright mosh pit for “Take Her Back.” Sentimentalist
Pigeon Detectives are embarking on a mini-tour in September to promote the release of their brand new EP, “This is an Emergency”. The four-track EP will see a digital release in the US on September 9th.
This is an Emergency Video
In a perfect world, rock groups would meet at junior-high, share rites of passage at teenage parties, then become a best-selling band after five years rehearsing in bedrooms and back-rooms. They would then release brilliant, life-affirming pop records and refuse all offers from major labels, preferring to stay on a trusted independent.
Impossible? Clearly, you haven’t met The Pigeon Detectives. With their first album positioning within the top three in the UK charts, ‘Wait For Me’ is still selling by the lorry-load, they’re major league pop stars. For this newly famous five, 2007 passed in the sort of blur, which they readily acknowledge they’ll never see again. In twelve short months they’ve played everywhere from Glastonbury to Tokyo, brushed shoulders with Macca at the Q Awards and ended the year gate-crashing the nation’s front-room on Top of the Pops.
Their sophomore masterpiece, “Emergency”, was released in the UK on May 26th, 2008; exactly two days shy of a year after their platinum selling debut ‘Wait For Me’ came out. After crashing into the charts at number three it has already achieved gold status and is still selling fast. They’ve continued their world domination with the single, “This is an Emergency”, headlining the UK’s NME Awards tour, playing to sold out crowds, attended by over 70,000 people.
The Pigeon Detectives are: Matt Bowman, vocals; Oliver Main, guitar; Ryan Wilson; rhythm guitar; Dave Best; bass; Jimmi Naylor, drums.

“The Pigeon Detectives realise that, in the crowded market in which they operate, their rapid rise has been premised on sheer strength of tunes.” NME
“Rammed back-to-back with hits, the Detectives aren’t meant to have you stroking your chin, pensive in thought about the future direction of new music.” The Fly
Jett Beres, bassist of Sister Hazel, will release a children’s book entitled “Starfish, A Lullaby” on September 23, 2008. The book is based on the lyrics to the song “Starfish,” which is featured on the band’s platinum-selling album “Somewhere More Familiar.”
Packaged with each book is a CD which boasts the “Lullaby Suite,” a three-song “Starfish” sampler. Included are a lullaby version of the song performed by Beres and Sister Hazel bandmate Ryan Newell, a symphonic arrangement of the song, and a classical guitar take on the tune. The CD clocks in at eighteen minutes, which Beres says is the perfect amount of time for his kids to fall asleep. A percentage of proceeds from the book sales will go to benefit Lyrics for Life (www.lyricsforlife.org), a charity founded by Sister Hazel vocalist, Ken Block.
FROM THE AUTHOR:
In 1995, I “found myself” touring around the country in the back of an old Chevy conversion van, with a two-year sabbatical and the hopes for my band to “catch a rising star.” The van was named Clevon, and the band was named Sister Hazel. Traveling down a long stretch of highway, I came up with the idea for a very simple song about missing my home, feeling alone, and finding my place in the world. This quirky little song about a starfish has been connecting with our audiences in a strange and endearing way ever since then. It wasn’t until I had two children of my own that I realized the story of the Starfish had a new way to be told, and a new audience to tell it to. I hope that you find this little story as fun to read to your children at bedtime as I have. “…There we were, one more star tonight…” – Jett Beres

Atlantic Records has announced the upcoming release of “OMFGG – ORIGINAL MUSIC FEATURED ON GOSSIP GIRL NO. 1,” the first companion soundtrack to the hit CW series, Gossip Girl. The album features an array of tracks from a range of today’s most intriguing new artists, including the Virgins, the Republic Tigers, Phantom Planet, the Kills, and the Ting Tings. “OMFGG – ORIGINAL MUSIC FEATURED ON GOSSIP GIRL NO. 1” arrives digitally today, September 2nd – one day after the hugely anticipated Season 2 premiere of Gossip Girl. The soundtrack will then arrive in stores everywhere on October 28th.
Gossip Girl follows series creators Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage’s previous smash drama, The O.C., which was widely regarded for granting mainstream exposure to the work of such modern rock icons as Death Cab for Cutie, the Killers, and Modest Mouse. Compiled by The O.C.’s music supervisor extraordinaire Alexandra Patsavas (Chuck, Mad Men), “OMFGG – ORIGINAL MUSIC FEATURED ON GOSSIP GIRL NO. 1” gathers together a remarkable selection of forward-thinking young bands, such as Crystal Castles, Oppenheimer, and the Teenagers (see attached tracklisting). Among the soundtrack’s many highlights is a booming cover of Siouxsie & the Banshees’ classic “Cities In Dust,” performed by the one-and-only Junkie XL.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Gossip Girl soundtrack without some of NYC’s best and brightest. Among the New Yorkers represented are the Pierces and the Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. What’s more, the album features an early version of the Virgins’ “One Week of Danger,” originally found on the acclaimed Big Apple-based band’s now-impossible-to-find self-released EP. All songs on “OMFGG – ORIGINAL MUSIC FEATURED ON GOSSIP GIRL NO. 1” were initially featured throughout the breakthrough first season of Gossip Girl.
The soundtrack’s release also sees the launch of the all-new www.OMFGG.com, a site devoted to the music featured on Gossip Girl. Utilizing the NING social networking platform, fans of “OMFGG” can log in and create their own profiles, chat with other fans, watch exclusive videos from bands featured on the soundtrack, stream songs, and more. The site also features the first-ever Gossip Girl mobile list – text “OMFGG” to 50505 to join.
