Following a sold-out US tour throughout North America that continues through the end of November, Mute Records and M83 are proud to announce that the band is confirmed to open for The Killers during their arena tour in January and February 2009. The tour is still in support of M83’s fifth album Saturdays = Youth released April 2008 on Mute. Saturdays = Youth debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top New Artist Heatseekers Chart, went to #1 on the CMJ Top 200, and is the #1 record of 2008 at Urban Outfitters. In December, M83 will be opening for the Kings of Leon during their entire UK arena tour. The videos for the singles, “Graveyard Girl,” and “Kim and Jessie,” were nominated for MTV2’s “Video of the Year” award.

The record also met with widespread critical acclaim including an 8.5/10 review ranking from Pitchfork, an 8/10 review ranking from Wired, and a Remix magazine cover story. Rolling Stone hailed that Saturdays = Youth is full of “70mm songs for John Hughes movies yet to be filmed,” while Black Book said the album evokes “the spiritual atmospherics of Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine’s epic shoegaze sprawl…the results stun in glorious slow motion.” NPR nominated the record for its “Album of the Year” award.

The M83 live setup includes Gonzalez on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Loic Maurin on Drums, Pierre-Marie Maulini on bass and guitar and featured album vocalist Morgan Kibby (of LA-based band The Romanovs) on vocals and keyboards.

Alvin and The Chipmunks New Christmas Video

To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, Alvin and The Chipmunks did a brand new rendition of their classic hit “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)” and I have a link to the video below. In addition the Alvin and The Chipmunks Original Soundtrack won the Favorite Album – Soundtrack category at Sunday night’s American Music Awards. Their new album “Undeniable” is in stores now and includes covers of hits like “All the Small Things” and “Livin’ On A Prayer”.

Alvin and The Chipmunks – The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late):

Last night the original motion picture soundtrack ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS (Razor & Tie) won the Favorite Album – Soundtrack category. Celebrating the 50th Anniversary and six decades on the charts, the soundtrack album has spent 48 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, peaking at #5. Released in November of 2007, the album will soon be certified platinum and cumulative sales for individual tracks are nearing 1.5 million.

“To have Alvin and his brothers be recognized 50 years after their birth is overwhelming for Janice and for me,” expressed Ross Bagdasarian, CEO of Bagdasarian Productions. “We are proud to have had the opportunity to work on such a successful project and continue to be so impressed with the Bagdasarians and the folks at Fox,” added Razor & Tie Co-Owner Cliff Chenfeld.

The 20th Century Fox live action/CGI motion picture Alvin and The Chipmunks was a smash hit last year with over $350 million box office gross worldwide and is currently the #1 DVD in the United States with over 8 million in sales. Alvin and The Chipmunks is the highest grossing talking animal or live action cartoon adaptation on record.

Robert Kraft, President of Fox Music, said, “I am thrilled by this award, and amazed by the staying power of Alvin, Simon and Theodore. They clearly appeal to audiences across the generations, a testament to the genius of the Bagdasarians’ imagination.”

The original motion picture soundtrack showcased The Chipmunks’ signature sound and modern takes on rock, pop, reggae and hip hop and was produced by Ali Dee (Mya, Shakira). On November 4th, Razor & Tie Entertainment released the first new non-soundtrack Chipmunks album in over 10 years, UNDENIABLE. The new album created by Ross Bagdasarian and Janice Karman, is also produced by Ali Dee and features covers of major hits as well as four new Chipmunks originals. UNDENIABLE demonstrates a band that’s mastered every style, from the funky title track and remix of “We’re The Chipmunks” (the theme song from the popular cartoon series) to a moving version of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds.” There’s also a new holiday hit written by Janice Karman “Ho Ho Ho,” an epic take on Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer” and an inspired version of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.” Rising pop star Drew Seeley (High School Musical soundtracks, Another Cinderella Story) is also featured on a duet of the classic disco hit “Shake Your Groove Thing.”

A global phenomenon to generations of fans, Alvin and The Chipmunks have sold more than 45 million albums worldwide and won three Grammy awards. The Chipmunks were recently immortalized as the smallest and first ever animated wax figures at Madame Tussauds. They continue to engage audiences with animated television shows, feature films, album releases and video games. On Christmas Day, 2009, 20th Century Fox and Bagdasarian Productions will release Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

Fans of experimental noise-popsters Iran know that seeing them is even rarer than catching a glimpse of the reclusive David Berman or Jeff Mangum, but those fans will soon have cause to celebrate. The trio of singer/multi-instrumentalist Aaron Aites, guitarist Kyp Malone (yes that Kyp Malone) and guitarist Aaron Romanello, are planning to release a third full-length album DISSOLVER in February 2009.

IRAN marks their return to the fold with the release of “Dissolver”, in which the band proves it’s left the bedroom and opted for the high fidelity of a full fledged recording studio. The sizzled haze of IRAN’s four-track-recorded early records may have obscured their pop sensibility, but no more. Shedding much of the cackle, hiss & detuned guitars, Aites pop songs are at the fare on Dissolver, with Malone and Romanello bringing this lo-fi dementia into full bloom.

Aites describes the new album as “very hi-fi”, “more structured” and more “fully fleshed out” than their previous two outings, Iran (self-titled) and The Moon Boys. He also said it’s more lyric-based (in the vein of The Moon Boys), with material sounding “louder and grimmer.”

Iran also just releaser an EP released in October 2008 featuring the single “Buddy” from DISSOLVER, a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation” and “Airport 77” a prelude to “Airport” 79 also from Dissolver.

The release of Dissolver marks the long awaited return of IRAN & has the industries tastemakers salivating in anticipation. Having received top marks from Pitchfork (8.7 & 9.1) for their first two releases and numerous other accolades—the much-anticipated Dissolver will not disappoint.

For those of you wondering about the bands name IRAN is not a reference to the country but to a character of Philip K. Dick—if you get the reference you are a worthy fan of all things cool–

“a dizzying revelry, but also a scary, late-night lock-down. With repeated listens sounds bloom, open and deepen, and a story develops. Hooks disappear. Flubbed notes remain and turn dusty, then to prismatic gold.”

StarTime International to release WILD LIGHT debut Adult Nights on March 3, 2009

New Hampshire Four-Piece Wild Light Announce Release of Debut Album

– Adult Nights – Out March 3rd, 2009 on StarTime International

New York, NY – New Hampshire four-piece Wild Light announce release of their debut album – Adult Nights – out March 3rd, 2009 on StarTime International. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck, Guided By Voices), the album features 13 original tracks co-written by all four members. The result is classic Americana pop that sweeps over you with distinct vocal harmonies complimented by warm and dynamic arrangements. The songs reflect the timeless American spirit, whether it be the fall foliage, changing of the seasons, or a summer day at the lake. Rooted in the New Hampshire motto of “Live Free or Die,” the album addresses an unknown but open future for Wild Light – a theme constant in the life of many today.

The four childhood friends of Wild Light – guitarist Jordan Alexander, keyboarders and bassists Seth Pitman and Tim Kile and drummer Seth Kasper – officially formed as a band in Spring of 2005. The band started playing shows around Boston and New York and the buzz surrounding them quickly began to spread. Before they knew it, they found themselves playing sets to packed crowds at the Levi’s Fader Fort at SXSW, the Hollywood Bowl and Randall’s Island with LCD Soundsystem, Les Savy Fav, Blonde Redhead and The Arcade Fire, a band which shares a unique connection to Wild Light due to Tim being one of the group’s founding members and both Jordan and Tim and Kasper being longtime friends of frontman Win Butler. Avid supporters and fans of Wild Light, The Arcade Fire tapped Wild Light to play select dates with them around the US, and perform as the opening act on tour in UK and Europe. Since then, Wild Light has shared the stage with numerous bands including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, MGMT, and Clinic, and also toured with The Stills and Ambulance LTD.

Now, StarTime International, the label that introduced the world to The French Kicks and The Walkmen, will release Adult Nights in March of 2009, and Wild Light will join the label’s illustrious roster of artists which includes Peter, Bjorn and John and Does It Offend You, Yeah?

First Guns N’ Roses Album In 17 Years Debuts On MySpace Music

First Guns N’ Roses Album In 17 Years Debuts On MySpace Music

Chinese Democracy, the first new Guns N’ Roses album since 1991, debuted last night at 9 PM PST exclusively on MySpace Music, where fans can listen to it for free.

Well, actually it debuted on BitTorrent a while ago, but we’re not talking about that. Also, the band has previously released two songs, Chinese Democracy and Better, to radio stations and music sites in the past couple of weeks.

But tonight is the big debut, and for most people it will be the first time they hear the music. It will be available in 25 countries: US, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Russia, Turkey, Poland, India, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Japan.

Remember this ’cause it’s important: listening to music on BitTorrent for free is illegal. Listening to it for free on MySpace isn’t.

The physical album goes on sale November 23.

Rumored to be the brainchild of Robcore labelhead Rob Crow of indie wunderkinds Pinback, Goblin Cock is focused, primed, and ready to pull the pin on the follow-up to their mammoth debut Bagged And Boarded on Absoultely Kosher Records, which was nominated for three Plug Awards including Metal Album Of The Year.

With songs about undeniably HEAVY topics such as apparitional gloryhole afficienados, an “ode” to Native American Green Beret Vietnam War Veteran, hapkido karate Hippie Billy Jack [which rivals his own themed penned by original Satanic Black Metal Gods “Coven”], comic books [of course] and a Power-Ballad devoted to homoerotic fetish artist Tom Of Finland, Goblin Cock is taking yet another brave step in the re-defintion of TRUE METAL.

Boasting another iconic album cover by Star Wars: New Essential Guide to Characters And Magic Card artist Mike Sutfin, prepare for Lord Phallus to be the Farrah Fawcett of the 00’s thanks to the foldout poster insert. Fans across the United States have already started duct taping their glasses to their heads in anticipation of the upcoming Cock Across America tour this January & February.

“No one really knows who they are.

No one knows exactly where they are from.

One thing is certain.

No one can leave a Goblin Cock show without at least a slight limp.”

-William F. Buckley [probably not]
