Purchase Last Crusade

On February 17, 2009 Concord Records will release individually the soundtracks to the original three Indiana Jones films: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

All three feature Oscar-winning composer John Williams’ soundtracks digitally remastered from the original tapes, plus unreleased music from each respective film. Previously available only as part of last year’s highly successful box set release Indiana Jones: The Soundtracks Collection, these reissued CD’s will be available individually for the first time. About the boxed set, Film Music Magazine raved, “It’s a collection on five CD’s that delivers over an hour of unheard Indy music, all with spectacular sound and sleek packaging. The chance to finally hear that minute of Indy toppling the Anubis statue in ‘Raiders’ is like a dream come true. Now with just about every bit of Indiana Jones music on deck here, listing to some of John Williams’ greatest achievements for the popcorn cinema has never sounded more fun, or fresh. Raid this covenant of CD’s immediately.”

Produced by Laurent Bouzereau, the reissued CD’s expand the first three iconic Indiana Jones soundtrack albums, which have been collectors’ items for many years.

Concord Records also released the soundtrack to last year’s mega-blockbuster Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which was recently nominated for a 2009 Grammy® Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media).

With 45 Academy Award nominations and five Oscars® under his belt, John Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in history, and has collaborated with Steven Spielberg for the past 35 years on 23 films including Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Schindler’s List. Williams also composed the acclaimed scores for George Lucas’ STAR WARS saga, Superman: The Movie, Memoirs of a Geisha, and the first three Harry Potter films.

Mr. Williams’ most recent work “Air and Simple Gifts,” was commissioned for President Barack Obama’s inauguration and performed by renowned musicians Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Gabriela Montero and Anthony McGill January 20th, 2009 for a global audience of millions.

BROKE AND STRANDED, JAR-E FOUND SOMETHING TO BELIEVE

BROKE AND STRANDED, JAR-E FOUND SOMETHING TO “BELIEVE”

Jar-e’s magnetic frontman Jon Reid has played in rock bands, jazz bands and duos, but as a solo artist he’s able to flesh out his raw ideas on the fly. That’s how the horn-heavy, Latin-beat driven single “Casa Believe,” from his upcoming sophomore record ‘Chicas Malas’ (Exotic Recordings, 02/24), came to be.

Reid, who’s based in Asheville, NC, recalls: “I wrote this song when I was broke and stranded in Bushwick, Brooklyn after a tour. All I had was a guitar, and I didn’t want to have to ask anyone to help me out.”

Then these words came to him: “Feeling these things are just ordinary things and I should not need advice / But ordinary things are just not my thing and I’ve never not been surprised”

With this lyrical epiphany, he started writing the song. “I kept playing the same chords over and over,” he said. “All of a sudden, the melody started coming to me” – and the song was finished in just 15 minutes.

“This song flips the idea of walking alone on its head. It suggests that admitting our weakness and our need for other people is the wiser and ultimately stronger choice.” Reid then scrounged up enough change to hop the train to labelmates Saint Bernadette’s apartment – and made it home.

Nous Non Plus – Loli video

The excellent new video from NYC/LA band Nous Non Plus for “Loli” off their forthcoming release, Menagerie, which features Jean-Luc Retard, (also known as Björn Türoque of Air Guitar Nation fame), chanteuse Celine Dijon, LA composer/producer Michael Andrews (Brendan Benson, Metric, Me You and Everyone We Know) and Joachim Cooder (Buena Vista Social Club, Hello Stranger), among others.

Nous Non Plus’ “Loli” Video

Pitchfork TV premiered the video saying, “The iconic sunglasses suggest French-language New York indie-rockers Nous Non Plus appear to have Stanley Kubrick’s film version [of “Lolita”] in mind for their new “Loli” video…this solid single puts Strokes-esque vox, with French lyrics…over breezy, 1960s-tinged garage-pop. Meanwhile, the Greg Harrison-directed video gives us streamers, balloons, some nifty effects, and entendres aplenty involving a scantily clad young woman and her lecherous beau.”

Menagerie builds on NNP’s 60’s French pop influences–mixing Moog synthesizers with string sections, horns with distorted guitars, and includes a cover of The Unicorns’ song “Tuff Ghost.” Their music has also recently been featured on Gossip Girl and in European mobile phone commercials.

CHAIRLIFT TO EMBARK ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH YACHT & FRIENDS

CHAIRLIFT TO EMBARK ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH YACHT & FRIENDS

After a whirlwind 2008, Brooklyn dream-pop trio Chairlift prepares to embark on a North American tour with electronic avant-pop artist YACHT, who will be releasing their forthcoming full-length, See Mystery Lights, with new label DFA in the late Spring. After making a pit stop at SXSW, Chairlift will continue their tour across the US and into Canada, joining up with Sebastian Tellier and Peter, Bjorn & John.

Chairlift spent a good portion of last year on the road, teaming up with Ariel Pink and Yeasayer for two cross-country jaunts, as well as heading out on a European tour in the late fall, which included dates with Why? Telepathe and Santogold among others. In the wake of Chairlift’s catchy pop single “Bruises” getting chosen for the colorful new iPod Nano-Chromatic commercial, the band ended the year with a bang, with their debut, Does You Inspire You, being named one of SPIN Magazine’s Top 40 Albums of 2008, as well as making many of their peers’ Top 10 lists. Chairlift was also recently voted the “Best Emerging NYC Artist of 2008” by The Deli Magazine.

Chairlift Press:
“Besotted with reverb drenched synthetic lushness, they flit from uncanny new-wave caricatures to beguiling heroin country ballads, nodding deeply to David Lynch’s Angelo Badalamenti-scored oeuvre” – SPIN – Top 40 Albums of 2008

“Aesthetics, ecology and intergalactic millinery: welcome to the dawning of the age of Chairlift.” – NME Radar

“…molasses-covered, electro-funk fantasy of innocence, and it throbs like Prince on sizzurp.” – Blender

“Chairlift possess that rare charm that transcends any self-aware genre or calculated scene…the album’s cool temperature is balanced by the uplift of its exalted riffs and melodies – overall, an inspirational debut.” – BUST

“Brooklyn’s Chairlift sounds like Siouxsie Sioux fronting an ’80s synth band (which is to say, awesome), and their debut provides an incomparably swoon-worthy listen.”- VMAN

“‘Does You Inspire You,’ is a loopy confection of synth-pop goodness that evokes Yaz and the Knife, with Polachek crooning away like a more chipper Cat Power. – OUT Magazine

“Chairlift’s music is itself a portal into the band’s imaginative psyche where ambiguous sonic shapes hide under a cloak of reverb and sanguine synth lines dance over decadent vocal harmonies.” – The Deli Magazine

BEN KWELLER PREMIERES NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR FIGHT ON MYSPACE MUSIC TODAY NEW ALBUM “CHANGING HORSES SET FOR RELEASE ON ATO RECORDS ON FEB. 3, 2009

BEN KWELLER PREMIERES NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “FIGHT” ON MYSPACE MUSIC TODAY NEW ALBUM “CHANGING HORSES” SET FOR RELEASE ON ATO RECORDS ON FEB. 3, 2009

Ben Kweller is proud to announce the premiere of his new music video for “Fight” on MySpace Music today, Thursday, January 29. As one of the highlight tracks from his soon-to-be released ATO Records album “Changing Horses,” “Fight” is an upbeat representation of the album’s musical craftsmanship, a body of work saturated in Country music influences and the kind of poignant songwriting one is to expect from the seasoned musician. The music video for “Fight” is a good-natured clip that illustrates exactly the lengths one will go for their buddies in a pinch. Check out the video below.

Ben Kweller – “Fight”

“Changing Horses” was produced by Kweller and recorded mostly in Austin, TX, where he and his family recently re-located. The title is meaningful as it represents a sea change for the 27-year-old Texan-bred musician. Beginning with his first record, “Sha Sha,” released in 2002, Kweller’s albums have always been stylistically restless, moving from indie rock to ballads to anti-folk to melodic chug rock, often from song to song. “Changing Horses,” on the other hand, is of one mind — a full-blown, straight-up country affair, brimming with immaculate pedal steel, twang and multi-part harmonies. It features his touring band — Chris Morrissey on bass and vocals, and Mark Stepro on drums and vocals — as well as the brilliant Kitt Kitterman on pedal steel. Like all of Kweller’s work, the new album is filled with unforgettable melodies and deeply soulful lyrics that could only come from someone as sensitive to the human spirit as he is.

To make the record, Kweller dug down to his deepest roots. “I grew up bass-fishing, playing in creeks, and shooting BB guns,” Kweller says. “Country music was the soundtrack to my life. It’s still a big part of who I am. When Garth Brooks or Alan Jackson come on the radio, somethin’ happens inside. Brings me back to the trees, back to pushin’ cars out of the mud. Reminds me of my hometown.”

For Kweller, releasing a country album is the realization of a long-held goal. “I’ve been working on Horses for years.” he says. “I wrote the first song for it when I was 16. Over time, I’ve collected these songs that fit together and wanted to release them together. I didn’t want to try and fit them on my other albums one or two at a time.”

Kweller and his band, who just finished a tour of America, the UK and Europe, have confirmed a North American tour for 2009 to support the release of “Changing Horses.” The confirmed tour dates are below. A west coast leg of the tour as well more international dates will be announced soon.

Brazil’s Nancy are about to warm things up with the release of their Keep Cooler EP and US Tour

Brazil’s Nancy are about to warm things up with the release of their Keep Cooler EP and US Tour

Brazil is known for it’s ass-shakin’ music with artists like CSS and Bonde do Role, which leaves one to wonder what else is out there? Well, Nancy, that’s what! Their sultry melodic indie pop sound is miles away from what the Brazilian music scene is noted for in the States. Rest assure, though, that Nancy is about to give everyone a lesson in Brazil’s hidden indie rock gems.

Their deliciously sexy EP Keep Cooler, being digitally released Stateside on March 10, 2009, is the work of exchanged e-mails, late night AIM action, swapping Garage Band vocals, guitar parts, and a couple of transatlantic flights. While Camila Zamith (vocals) carried her laptop from Uruguay to London, Praxis (guitar) wore flip-flops to work almost everyday in R io de Janeiro. Camila believes that this kind of songwriting process makes things more “organised and disciplined as a band, as well as more objective about what we wanted to accomplish. It makes you work a little harder because you don’t have the instant feedback from your bandmates. Inevitably, you try to write something that is closer to a final version of the song so that you aren’t the one slowing down the process.” Months later, they regrouped for two weeks of up-all-night recording sessions in Brasília, Brazil’s modernist capital, and all the hard work and late night electronic coorespondence paid off with the completion of their enchantingly irresistible EP.

“In terms of new bands, Brazilian band Nancy won me over with the sexy and swaggering Keep Cooler” – USA TODAY, Pop Candy

“Nancy, a Brazilian five-piece outfit…is heavy, saucy, grindy, and lovely.” – Music For Robots

“We don’t like using the word “sexy” to describe music but it’s the first word that comes to mind when listening to “Keep Cooler” by Nancy, the Brazilian indie pop band we featured a few weeks ago. Camila Zamith’s sultry vocal delivery is worthy of the likes of Roisin Murphy and even Goldfrapp, but the song itself exists in a more rockish dimension. The chugging, marching rhythm and guitar strums give the song a feel of urgency and energy.” – RCRD LBL

Nancy is about to head out on their first ever tour of the US and will be playing dates on the East Coast leading up to some great sets at this year’s SXSW.

March Tour Dates
Thu, March 12 – DC @ The Red and The Black
Fri, March 13 – NYC @ The Delancey

DOVES ANNOUNCE NEW STUDIO ALBUM KINGDOM OF RUST SET FOR RELEASE ON APRIL 7TH ON ASTRALWERKS RECORDS FREE EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD “JETSTREAM” AVAILABLE FOR 2 WEEKS ON BAND’S WEBSITE STARTING TODAY

U.S. Tour Expected To Hit Stateside Late Spring

Acclaimed British trio the Doves will release their much anticipated new studio album, Kingdom of Rust (Astralwerks Records) on April 7th, 2009. Kingdom of Rust is the Dove’s 4th studio album, their first since Some Cities debuted at # 1 on the U.K. album charts in February, 2005. The Doves, comprised of Jez Williams, Andy Williams and Jimi Goodwin are offering fans a sneak peak by offering album track “Jetstream” as a free download for two weeks on their website www.doves.net. A U.S. tour is expected to hit stateside in late spring.

Kingdom of Rust which is already being heralded by NME as 1 of the 10 most important albums of 2009 is the Dove’s most sonically adventurous, intimate, cerebral, propulsive album to date. The trio has been recording the album for the past 18 months, having ensconced themselves to a farm house-come-studio in backwaters of Cheshire, England. They teamed up with long time Doves collaborator Dan Austin to co produce all but 2 tracks of Kingdom Of Rust. For the remaining 2 tracks; “10.03” and “Winter Hill,” the group worked with ace producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead).

The free download “Jetstream” is a stomping Doves classic in waiting. Fitted with a propulsive krautrock motorik, it inherits the bands dance DNA from their former Sub Sub extraction. It is with a searing intensity and the kind of brooding melancholic refrain that has become the Doves trademark that “Jetstream” blazes the trail for a new a new direction while simultaneously bearing all the hallmarks of an all time Doves classic.
