THE OFFSPRING ANNOUNCE THE S*** IS F***ED UP TOUR Kicks off May 15 in Nashville, TN

Orange County, CA – The Offspring, one of rock’s most exciting and enduring bands, have announced they will hit the road this May for their first full North American tour in nearly 4 years. The announcement came via the band’s just unveiled “S*** Is F***ed Up” tour widget featuring a mock “presidential address” by Dexter Holland (vocals, guitar).

Dexter along with Noodles (guitar), Greg K (bass) and Pete Parada (drums) will kick things off May 15 in Nashville, TN. The tour will feature different openers on each leg and will be highlighted by a hometown show June 5 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, CA.

Following the success of the single “Hammerhead” and its follow-up “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid,” The Offspring remain a favorite on the airwaves with “Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?,” the band’s third radio hit from their latest Columbia Records release Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace.

Produced by the legendary Bob Rock [Metallica, The Cult], the new album has forged new territory while staying true to the Offspring’s vision. Every song on their eighth studio release delivers, lengthening the list of accomplishments from a band that has performed over 1000 shows and has sold more than 34 million albums worldwide. Fifteen years after its release, their 1994 release Smash remains the highest-selling album of all time on an independent label.

Jenny Owen Youngs is back with her second album, Transmitter Failure due May 26. This record is a bold departure from her 2007 release Batten The Hatches, which thrust Youngs into the spotlight (and won her a record deal with Nettwerk) when her song “Fuck Was I” was featured on the TV show “Weeds”.

The new record, produced by Dan Romer (Ingrid Michaelson, April Smith, The Woes) has a different musical take. Transmitter Failure is a gripping album featuring a lush aural landscape populated by gut-thumping bass lines, electric guitars, sunny keys, booming horns, digital drum tracks and even flute, glockenspiel and a full string section at times (borrowed straight from the pit of award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening). Where acoustic guitar was once a cornerstone of her previous work, the sonic core of Transmitter Failure is comprised of crunchy, multi-layered electrics.

Youngs says of the new sound, “I wanted to make something that would move people emotionally, but also move them physically. I did not want to end up touring for another three years on a record that wouldn’t offer people the opportunity to move. So. Dan and I set out to make something that was, quite simply, more fun to play live. In the process, my writing took turns I didn’t expect.”

Yet throughout it all, Transmitter Failure is unmistakably Jenny: Smart song structures, melodies informed by her love of pop music, and an ability to sting the listener with her candid lyrical insights.

Track listing for Transmitter Failure:

1. First Person
2 . Led To The Sea
3. Dissolve
4. Here Is A Heart
5 . Clean Break
6. If I Didn’t Know
7. What Beats Within
8. Secrets
9 . No More Words
10. Last Person
11. Nighty Night
12. Transmitter Failure
13. Start + Stop

The album’s lead, ‘Led to the Sea,’ is ‘the loudest song on the record,’ says Youngs, “and it couldn’t be further away from the musical ideas of Batten”. On April 7, Youngs will release the Led to the Sea EP along with some additional mixes and a remix of the single. ‘Led to the Sea’ will be a home page featured song on so check it out now to hear the track early!

Track listing for the Led to the Sea EP:

1. Led to the Sea
2. Clean Break (Mountain Mix)
3. Nighty Night (Strings Mix)

Iggy Pop, the Godfather of Punk, takes on the language of romance and gets “dangerously near jazz” on his new album, Préliminaires, to be released in the U.S. on EMI Music’s Astralwerks label on June 2. Produced by Hal Cragin, Préliminaires, which means “foreplay” in French, is score music inspired by Michel Houellebecq’s 2005 novel The Possibility of an Island.

Iggy will present the new project during an online interactive press conference hosted at, which will take place live from Paris, France tomorrow, Thursday March 26 at 11:00am CET (6:00am EDT). He will speak about his inspirations, the link to French culture, and controversial author Houellebecq. Those subscribing to the webcast will also have the opportunity to ask questions and hear tracks from the album.

The book “is about death, sex, the end of the human race, and some other pretty funny stuff,” says Iggy in a video statement explaining his motivations. “I read the book with intense pleasure when it came out and, in my mind, I created music that would have been the music that I would hear in my soul when I read it.”

Later on Iggy was approached to write several songs for a film documentary about Houellebecq’s life and his attempt to direct a film of his own book. “The project grew and grew and I found the emotions from my reading transforming themselves into music,” Iggy explains. “I wrote less and less for the movie and started writing an alternative score to the novel.”

On Préliminaires, which eventually took on a life of its own beyond the film project, Iggy sings the standard “Les Feuilles Mortes (Autumn Leaves),” originally covered by the likes of Yves Montand and Edith Piaf, while the New Orleans-influenced “King of the Dogs”—with a jazz arrangement featuring trumpet, trombone and clarinet—tells the story of a dog named Fox who explains “how cool it is to be a dog, and how much it beats human life.” There’s also a version of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s bossa nova standard “How Insensitive (Insensatez).”

“At one point, I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars banging out crappy music. I’ve started listening to a lot of New Orleans-era, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton type of jazz. And I’ve always loved quieter ballads as well,” says Iggy. “There are some guitars on the album. Only one song is vaguely raucous; three have jazz-like instrumentation.”

The album was recorded in Woodstock and in Miami, where Iggy first sketched out the songs in his small cabin on the river on his old wooden guitar.

“Like Daniel, the book’s protagonist, I too have grown weary of a career as an entertainer and I wish for a new life,” he says. “I, too, have spent desolate hours in the future world of the Spanish Coast. The concluding chapters about Daniel and his small faithful dog wandering doomed through a ruined earth to the desiccated sea were the most empathetic and believable predictions of the future that I’ve encountered.”

The visuals for the album package are being created by French/Iranian graphic novelist and award-winning film director Marjane Satrapi, who first met Iggy when she asked him to do the voice for one of the characters in her Oscar-nominated animated feature Persepolis in 2007.

The track listing for Préliminaires is as follows:

1. Les Feuilles Mortes
2. I Want To Go To The Beach
3. King Of The Dogs
4. Je Sais Que Tu Sais
5. Spanish Coast
6. Nice To Be Dead
7. How Insensitive
8. Party Time
9. He’s Dead/She’s Alive
10. A Machine For Loving
11. She’s A Business
12. Les Feuilles Mortes (Marc’s Theme)

WATCH Emma Cook perform songs from Hit & Run live at Toronto’s Hugh’s Room:

EMMA COOK, who “can be a jazzy hipster a la Rickie Lee Jones, an eclectic avant-folkie like Joni Mitchell, or a soulful ingénue of the Dusty Springfield school” (Muses Muse), is launching the second leg of her U.S. tour with a pair of showcases at SXSW, performing as the EMMA COOK TRIO. Aside from Emma on guitars and vocals, the trio includes GordMowat on upright bass and Tim Shia on drums. Emma will debut her eclectic brand of music in the States this spring with the arrival of her first U.S. CD release, Hit & Run, set to street March 31, 2009. Quickly becoming one of Canada’s most vibrant singer/songwriter/guitarists, the Toronto Independent Music Award nominee kicked off her first U.S tour in February and included a series of shows at the International Folk Alliance in Memphis. The second leg continues through March, including a pair of SXSW appearances at the RedGorilla Music Festival and Music Gorilla Live Label Showcase Series in Austin, and Singer-Songwriter Cape May at the Jersey Shore.

“I’ve had a really positive response whenever I’ve performed for audiences south of the border,” says Emma, “so it’s exciting to be able to continue the momentum Hit & Run has gained by releasing it in the U.S. with my first real tour of the States.”

Popjournalism, Canada’s popular culture and media magazine, gave Hit & Run three-and-a-half stars, noting that “every track has a different mood and shade, but the result is one cohesive story that showcases one of Canada’s blossoming singer-songwriters.” The U.S. CD release of Hit & Run will feature three bonus tracks, not available on the Canadian record, and will be released digitally on Amazon, iTunes, Puretracks and CD Baby. Hit & Run was released last summer in Canada on this gifted young folk grrrl’sown label, Emmazing Records. Since the 2003 release of her first Canadian CD, Manifesto, critics all over the Great White North have raved about the Toronto native’s sound: “Martha Wainwright, watch your back; Emma is going to steal your thunder” (Daily Press in Ontario), and “powerful…fascinating voice…The melodies are catchy” (Brandon Sun in Manitoba).

Self-“untrained” from a classical voice background and with a unique guitar style identified by its percussive techniques, Emma composes intelligently outspoken lyrics reflecting her own strength and individuality, covering issues such as war, women’s issues, politics, and sexuality. She has generated a huge fan base throughout Canada over the past few years, due to constant touring and radio airplay. Two tracks off the Hit & Run record have been played extensively on college radio, CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corp.) and The Verge channel on XM/Canada: “This Boy,” a catchy blues/folk tune about a boy who won’t leave his mother, and the quirky alt-country title track, “Hit & Run,” about enjoying life’s ride rather than just the destination. Highlights of showcases where Emma has appeared include North by Northeast (NXNE) in 2007, Canadian Music Week and Indie Week. She also has performed as part of New York’s Skylark Folk Series, and received back-to-back grants for popular music recording from the prestigious Ontario Arts Council to finance Hit & Run and her 2009 U.S. tour.

Sariah – The Lethal EP – Online April 7th

ARTIST: Sariah

TITLE: The Lethal EP

LABEL: Rock Ridge Music

STREET DATE: Online April 7th

– As Sariah’s debut album, The Lethal EP, is a six-track digital release that includes an

exclusive iTunes bonus track, “Lethal (Remix)”

– Sariah’s high-energy performance’s are staged by renowned choreographer, Rhapsody

– Producers: Andy Marvel (Madonna), Martin Briley (Daughtry) and Jeff Franzel (‘NSync)

have all contributed in crafting Sariah’s magnetic sound.

At a time when true pop music stars are few and far between and urban music also seems in need of a fresh new voice, enter Sariah–a vocalist offering the best of both worlds.

With her debut EP via Rock Ridge Music due later this year, Sariah blends power pop ballads and sexy seductive hip-hop tracks with an effortless flow that would make heroes like Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys proud.

So, who is this next big thing? Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, Sariah was raised in the same Boston streets that produced pop idols like New Edition, New Kids On The Block and JoJo.

Sariah was bitten by the performance bug at an early age and was involved in choir, musical theater, and various types of dance. While in high school, she began taking vocal lessons and recording. It was then that she realized that music was not only her passion but her future.

“It’s always been about the performance,” Sariah explains. “That’s what got me into music in the first place. I love the positive feedback that you get from a live performance. It’s instant.”

At the age of 18, the young starlet moved to New York to pursue her big dream, a while keeping one foot on the ground by enrolling as a college student at Marymount Manhattan College. Studying theater, of course. However, when she wasn’t hitting the books, she was hard at work with renowned choreographer, Rhapsody, and a team of producers, including Andy Marvel (Madonna), Martin Briley (Daughtry), Jeff Franzel (‘NSync), setting a foundation for what would soon become the Sariah sound.

“My sound is urban pop–pop with an urban/jazz feel to it,” she says of that sound. While many up and coming artists would be content just to sing someone else’s lyrics, Sariah is not. “From the beginning I always wrote or was incorporated in songwriting. I didn’t think it would be believable if I didn’t write my own music. So, there was never a question that I would always be a part of that process.”

The result of all that hard work is an impressive six-track EP (the iTunes version will have an exclusive bonus track) that highlights her many facets both as a woman and as an artist. The sun-kissed reggae riddims of “Hypnotic” showcase both Sariah’s sensual side and her work ethic. “This was the hardest song to record because the producer, Mr. Fantastic, was really very detailed and very specific–down to the whisper.”

Similarly, Sariah opens her heart and shares her experience as an aspiring artist on the soul-stirring ballad, “Climb.” Produced by Adrian Gurvitz, the moving lyrics and melody convey an emotion beyond the young songstress’ years.

And for the hip-hop heads who like to nod their heads on the way to the club, Sariah drops the appropriately-titled club anthem “Let’s Bump Tonight.” This radio-ready single is full of street swagger and just the right amount of sexiness to attract both the guys and the girls.

Sariah’s unique sound is only complimented by her one of a kind style that she describes as both “very sexy, and very powerful.” “I can switch up from sexy powerful businesswoman to a no holds barred entertainer.” That versatility is also illustrated in her live show.

A true showstopper, Sariah believes in putting on a full-on high-energy show from start to finish–complete with dance moves from noted choreographer Rhapsody. “I like shocking people who don’t expect to see me put on a show like that. Even with my name, people don’t know what to expect and I like breaking those preconceived notions.”

It is those preconceived notions that have left pop music in the rut that it’s in now. There seems to be a lack of passion in the business, but Sariah will more than make up for that.

“I am doing this for the passion and love of music… not for the bling or fame. I just want to tour and bring my music to people. A lot of people are in this for the wrong reason. I will do whatever it takes to prove that. I want to be an inspiration.”
