PSYCHOSTICK REACHES 100K SALES MARK Sandwich-Making Contest Launched For Fans To Win Signed Album And More
This week, the humor core band Psychostick has officially scanned over 100,000 digital tracks for selections from their debut album, “We Couldn’t Think Of A Title.” 76,000 of those downloads were for their hit song, “Beer.” The band is releasing their new album, “Sandwich,” on May 5, 2009, and as part of the lead up to the street date, the band has launched their “Beat Our Meat” contest (http://www.psychostick.com/beatourmeat). Fans are encourage to create their own one-of-a-kind “epic metal sandwich,” videotape themselves eating it, and five sandwich creations will be selected to win a Psychostick Sandwich gift package, including a signed album, a $25 Subway gift card, and more. Entries are being accepted until Sunday, April 19th at 11:59 p.m. eastern time.
The band continues to climb the radio charts, moving up to #15 on the FMQB Metal Detector Chart, #14 on the CMJ Loud Rock Chart, #21 on the CMJ Loud Rock Select Albums Chart, #40 on the CMJ Loud Rock Select Singles Chart (for “Passive Vengeance”), and #25 on the Mediaguide Metal Specialty Chart.
“Sandwich” is the full-length follow-up to 2006’s “We Couldn’t Think Of A Title.” The album, a 24-track opus to food, email spam, bad directions, revenge, and more food, was recorded by guitarist Josh Key at Toxic Recording in Gilbert, Arizona, and features new members Jake McReynolds on second guitar and former Indorphine vocalist Jimmy Grant on bass. Rounding out the band roster are Alex Preiss (drums), and Rob Kersey (vocals).

– The band signed with Rock Ridge Music in May 2006 and re-released “We Couldn’t Think Of A Title” in September 2006. It reached #4 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Their single, “Beer” became a #1 single on XM Radio’s Liquid Metal show for seven weeks. Radio chart-wise, Psychostick climbed the Mediabase “Mainstream Rock” chart to #37 and the “Active” chart to #44. They were the only new, independent band on the charts at the time.
– With the help of RRM’s radio department, the song “Beer” was added to many radio stations in 2006 – KCAL (Riverside) sparked the terrestrial radio onslaught, with WIIL (Chicago), WYSP (Philly), WRIF (Detroit), WIYY (Baltimore), KQRC (Kansas City), and KXXR in Minneapolis showing it a lot of love and spins. Radio street level promotions followed: in 2007, WAAF in Boston had the band play on a parade float for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, with the band playing “Beer” repeatedly while the float cruised the streets of Boston.
– In Fall 2007, the band released a holiday EP, “Flesheating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride.” The 26-minute EP was received to great press reviews. Touring in support of the holiday EP, Psychostick hit the road in December 2007 on the first annual Holiday Hate Tour (the second annual tour was completed in December 2008).
– Psychostick was on the road through much of 2008, playing over 300 shows, with some actual “named” tours accounting for a chunk of those dates: their Holy Crap We’re Touring Tour lasted through February and March, and their six-week Terrible Shirt Tour (which kicked off in May of 2008), encouraged fans to wear their worst shirts to shows. (This tour also marked the debut of Psychostick as an official Jagermeister band).
– In September of 2008, financed with the donations by fans, the band went into the studio to begin work on “Sandwich.” (All of the fans who donated – 373 total – were thanked in a song on the album, “373 Thank Yous” – which has a run time of 14:19.)
– In December 2008, Psychostick celebrated their 4,000,000th song play on MySpace. The band ranks #3 on the site’s independent comedy charts.
– In March 2009, fans had “The Birthening” to nosh on – their first-ever DVD is filled with live and off-stage footage from 2006 through 2008.
