FLUTE.BEAT BOX. HARD KNOCK LIFE. ALL AT THE SAME TIME! GREG PATILLO. REMEMBER THAT.

Forget the Nexus Excel Prostate massaging sounds.  Forget the jazzy step-on-my-back-with-peanut-butter-and-jelly indi-artist name grabing names out there.  And forget conventional writing because today we have unconventional barely legal entertainment here.  Here my MVREMIX friends we have the “I’m Jaded. Give Me Innovative Shit” category.  So turn up your speakers and introduce yourselves to Greg Patillo.  New York Times voted, “The Best Person in the World at what he Does.”  He beat boxes and plays the flute all at the saaaaaaaaaaaaaaame time. ..ENJOY.

GWAR SLAYS THE BILLBOARD TOP 200 AT # 96 WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM “LUST IN SPACE” GARNERING THEIR HIGHEST CHART POSITION TO DATE DEBUTING AT # 13 ON THE HARD ROCK MUSIC CHART AND # 17 ON THE TOP INDEPENDENT ALBUM CHART

The one and only “Scumdogs of the Universe” GWAR, have truly outdone themselves this time. Their 25th anniversary album “Lust in Space” debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Top 200 chart making it the band’s highest chart position in their storied career.

Lead singer and current Fox News Red Eye Intergalactic correspondent Oderus Urungus had the following to say about GWAR’s record setting chart debut, “We are appalled, shocked, outraged, and completely ecstatic over GWAR’s latest master-work, “LUST IN SPACE” debuting at # 96 in the Billboard Charts…in keeping with my finally confirmed uber-rock star status, I have already vomited on Lindsay Lohan’s puss, visited the the Obama girls, and sodomized Carrot-Top. And there was much rejoicing.”

Still sporting nachos in his beard, Oderus continued to rant “But 96? That’s just not going to do it…GWAR and Metal Blade Records plan to keep on with this relentless assault until we go all the way to # 95!”

“Lust in Space” is in stores now, so pick it up and help Oderus and the Scumdogs obtain their goal of reaching #95 on the Billboard Top 200.

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE By Jim DeRogatis 1st COMPLETE “ILLUSTRATED HISTORY” BOOK ON ROCK’S MOST INFLUENTIAL TRAILBLAZERS CELEBRATES 45TH ANNIVERSARY IN WORDS AND PHOTOS

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE By Jim DeRogatis 1st COMPLETE “ILLUSTRATED HISTORY” BOOK ON ROCK’S MOST INFLUENTIAL TRAILBLAZERS CELEBRATES 45TH ANNIVERSARY IN WORDS AND PHOTOS

MINNEAPOLIS ? Voyageur Press has joined forces with renowned rock journalist Jim DeRogatis (Chicago Sun-Times) for the forthcoming book, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: An Illustrated History of A Walk on the Wild Side. This beautifully packaged tome ? the first complete illustrated history published on the seminal New York band ? arrives Sept. 15, 2009 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the group’s founding with the perfect balance of text and many never-before-seen photos. The glorious 192-page volume retraces the history of the band which almost single-handedly created what is now commonly referred to as punk and alternative music, thanks in large part to Lou Reed’s poetic-yet-streetwise lyrics, and music that alternated between white noise and gentle beauty.

Founded by Lou Reed and John Cale and managed by Andy Warhol, the Velvet Underground is often cited as the most influential band of the late ’60s. This eye-catching book manages to appeal to both the longtime fan and the newcomer, as it is the first to offer a behind-the-scenes look at this iconic band ? from its earliest days through its later incarnation ? and a rare inside view of how the Velvet Underground “opened wounds worth opening with brutal imagery, without apology,” as Patti Smith said upon the band’s 1996 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Included are insightful excerpts from Andy Warhol’s memoirs and rare interviews with band members which shed new light on the V.U.’s history. Also featured are photographs from Exploding Plastic Inevitable dancer Gerard Malanga, and rare images from Factory photographers Nat Finkelstein, Stephen Shore, and Billy Name, as well as additional color concert and candid photography, plus vintage posters, handbills, memorabilia, and much more.

As DeRogatis reminds us in the book’s intro, the famous Brian Eno quote about the Velvets is: “Only five thousand people ever bought a Velvet Underground album, but every single one of them started a band.” But he further points out that the Velvets’ influence transcends generations and stretches beyond just musicians: “Mull that over for a second and you’ll realize that it’s pure hyperbole: All of those people can’t possibly have formed bands, because many of them clearly became rock critics! Not to mention the fact that by now, we’ve endured many more than five thousand shameless Velvets clones and unapologetic V.U. namedroppers.”

In addition to the Velvet Underground book, Voyageur Press will be issuing other music-related titles this fall in their ongoing “Illustrated History” book series: Jon Bream’s NEIL DIAMOND IS FOREVER: The Illustrated Story of the Man and His Music will shine on shelves on October 15th, and Phil Sutcliffe’s QUEEN: The Crown Kings of Rock will rock you on November 15th. All are jam-packed with photos, artifacts, and comprehensive histories of each artist.

SAVING ABEL, RED, POP EVIL AND TADDY PORTER TO LAUNCH THE INAUGURAL “CLASS OF 2009” TOUR ANNUAL OUTING TO FEATURE MULTIPLE ROCK ACTS WITH TOP TEN HITS, AND ONE UNSIGNED ARTIST

SAVING ABEL, RED, POP EVIL AND TADDY PORTER TO LAUNCH THE INAUGURAL “CLASS OF 2009” TOUR ANNUAL OUTING TO FEATURE MULTIPLE ROCK ACTS WITH TOP TEN HITS, AND ONE UNSIGNED ARTIST

Platinum-selling Rock band Saving Abel will headline the inaugural “CLASS OF 2009” TOUR, with Red, Pop Evil and Taddy Porter along for the ride. The excursion will get underway on October 27th in San Antonio, TX and continue until the end of the year. The first leg of dates will go on sale the weekend of August 28th, with additional blocks of performances to be announced shortly.

The concept behind this new annual tour is to bring together rock artists who have achieved substantial TOP TEN hits at radio in the current calendar year. Each year, an unsigned band, a.k.a. “The Freshman,” will be selected to open the show for the full tour, providing an opportunity that is nothing short of a launching pad. Each of the acts on the inaugural run outside of Taddy Porter (this year’s “Freshman”) is riding major airplay at radio, and could be touring as a headliner on their own. The submission process outlining eligibility for consideration to be “The Freshman” for the “CLASS OF 2010” tour will be unveiled soon.

Headliner Saving Abel is the first act in over three years to have three top five rock hits off their debut release. The band’s debut singles” Addicted,” “18 Days,” and “Drowning (Face Down)” have delivered a massive fan base for the Corinth, MS. quintet. Saving Abel’s biggest hit “Addicted,” was a #1 rock hit, crossed over to peak at #7 on Billboard’s Top 40 Airplay Chart and also sold over a million downloads. Both RED and Pop Evil have had hits in the Top 10 this year and are quickly becoming staples at rock radio as well.

Saving Abel guitarist Jason Null offered, “I love the idea of this tour. Not only do we get to tour with some of the other hit makers of 2009, we also get a chance to help break a new artist. This is a great line-up that our fans and rock fans in general are going to be way into. We can’t wait to get out there.”

The concept behind the “CLASS OF” tours is the collective brainchild of Rick Smith, Scott Frazier and Larry Mestel as their first project for Primary Wave Music Management along with booking agent Justin Hirschman from Artist Group International. Future tours in the coming years will be staged, with the intent to see the concept grow exponentially in terms of the number of bands, venue sizes, and attendees. As the years pass, the moniker will change annually reflecting the year the excursion hits the road.

Primary Wave Music Management partner Rick Smith offered, “The fans across the country continue to support rock music. It is increasingly harder to break a new band. Our plan is to provide a stage for new bands to play in front of large audiences.” Scott Frazier added,” I laugh when I hear industry people say there’s nothing new and good to sign. I live where the audience lives and this tour is for them.”

This upcoming semester should be like no other… Class is in Session.
