FINAL FANTASY TO RELEASE ‘HEARTLAND’ JANUARY 12, 2010 ON DOMINO RECORDS

FINAL FANTASY TO RELEASE ‘HEARTLAND’ JANUARY 12, 2010 ON DOMINO RECORDS

Heartland exists. The third Final Fantasy full-length and the first for Domino Records, it is the product of nine months of work in four countries. Heartland is a fully orchestral record, designed to exist simultaneously as an album, a 45-minute piece of orchestral music and a set of songs for looped violin and voice. Owen Pallet explains:

“The songs themselves form a narrative concerning a farmer named Lewis and the fictional world of Spectrum. The songs are one-sided dialogues with Lewis, a young, ultra-violent farmer, speaking to his creator.”

“The album was compositionally modeled upon the principles of electronic music. The principles of analog synthesis informing symphonic writing, like an inversion of a Tomita record. These songs, too, were designed to be as dense with polyphony as the Final Fantasy live shows can become. While writing it, I kept an image in my head of putting so many notes on the page that the paper turned black.”

“This record encapsulates a whole year of work for me, and was difficult to see through, but I’m immensely proud of the results. I hope you enjoy it.”

Work began in earnest in November 2008, when Pallett and Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara flew to Reykjavik to work at The Greenhouse, Valgeir Siggurdsson’s studio (Björk’s Medulla, Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s The Letting Go) with engineer Mio Þórrison at the board. The orchestra was recorded January 2009, in Prague, with the Czech Symphony. Other guests include Matt Smith (Nifty), Reg Vermue (Gentleman Reg) and Nico Muhly. Rusty Santos, who produced Animal Collective’s Sung Tongs and mixed Panda Bear’s Person Pitch, was taken on as mixer. He and Owen worked together in Toronto and New York over the summer of 2009 putting the finishing touches on Heartland.

KINGS OF LEON’S “USE SOMEBODY” #1 AT TOP 40 RADIO ONE YEAR AFTER ONLY BY THE NIGHT IS RELEASED

RCA Records is very proud to announce that Kings of Leon’s single “Use Somebody” has hit the #1 spot on the Top 40 Radio charts in both airplay and audience. Amazingly, this is happening exactly one year after the album Only By The Night was released. At this point, with all the radio “Use Somebody” is getting in all the formats, the song is reaching a cumulative audience of 100 million on the Hot 100. The album has sold 1.3 million copies in America to date.

The band were nominated for three Grammys and won their first for “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals” for “Sex On Fire,” which was #1 on Billboard magazine’s Modern Rock chart for nine weeks in a row. “Use Somebody,” which has now sold over one million tracks, was #1 at Modern Rock for three weeks straight and is currently one of the biggest rock crossovers of the year at pop radio with its position solid at #1. Appearances on the covers of Rolling Stone and SPIN, and performances on Saturday Night Live, The Today Show’s summer concert series on Rockefeller Plaza, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien have all helped give the band the biggest selling record of their career as well as put them in front of more fans than ever before.

OUTSIDE MUSIC ARTIST PAUL AUCOIN (THE HYLOZOISTS) SCORES NEW YORK TELEVISION FESTIVAL AWARD

OUTSIDE MUSIC ARTIST PAUL AUCOIN (THE HYLOZOISTS) SCORES NEW YORK TELEVISION FESTIVAL AWARD

Toronto – A web series theme song composed by Paul Aucoin (The Hylozoists) received special recognition at the fifth annual New York Television Festival held this past weekend. Aucoin’s composition for MY PAL SATAN (lyrics by Dennis Heaton) won Best Theme Song while the show itself won for Best Web Pilot.

The NYTVF was founded in 2005 as the industry’s first recognized independent television festival, providing a platform to elevate the work of artists creating for the small screen. Held annually in New York City, the birthplace of modern television, the Festival unites artists, executives, industry figures, and fans together in one forum to celebrate the medium and to help shape its future.

Created by Dennis Heaton and produced under the pilot production program of the Canadian Film Centre, MY PAL SATAN is a web-based sitcom about Donna, a mortal 26-year-old straight-arrow sharing an apartment with the Prince of Darkness. The complete series can be viewed online at http://www.mypalsatan.com.

A prolific and creative musician-composer-arranger-engineer-producer, Aucoin is the A-list vibraphonist and go-to collaborator for the most respected artists in Canada’s alternative music scene. He is managed by Outside Music Management while the latest release from his band The Hylozoists, the dark and enchanting L’Île de Sept Villes, was released earlier this year on the Outside Music label. Aucoin’s previous short film scores have screened at Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival.

JUNIOR BOYS TO TOUR NORTH AMERICA FANS INVITED TO CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN ALL MONTH LONG ‘BEGONE DULL CARE’ OUT NOW ON DOMINO RECORDS

JUNIOR BOYS TO TOUR NORTH AMERICA FANS INVITED TO CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN ALL MONTH LONG ‘BEGONE DULL CARE’ OUT NOW ON DOMINO RECORDS

Junior Boys will be embarking on a North American tour next month, including a special Halloween show at The Bell House in Brooklyn. Fans are, however, strongly encouraged to celebrate the holiday at all of the shows on tour and attend any of the dates in full Halloween regalia. Best costumes will be rewarded with shirts and CDs!

Jeremy Greenspan, one half of Junior Boys, explains the month-long Halloween celebration: “Part of being a young Jewish kid to me was directing all of your excitement that should’ve been for Christmas towards Halloween. I was obsessed with Halloween as a kid, I waited for it impatiently, lamented it when it was over. All of my childhood obsessions with science fiction, horror stories, weird movies and strange music all seemed to converge at Halloween. I was particularly mesmerized by Halloween specials like Disney’s ‘The Skeleton Dance’ and ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, and a television show produced in Hamilton called ‘The Hilarious House of Frightenstein’. Even my indoctrination into dance music came from older gothy friends of mine who seemed to see a direct continuation from the spooky sounds of throbbing gristle and skinny puppy to early 90s detroit techno. Such was the Hamilton mentality at the time… who knows….Anyway when it came about that we would be touring around the release of our single called “Bits and Pieces” during October, all sorts of Halloween fantasies started churning up in my mind. So although we couldn’t quite afford full on GWAR style theatrics, we are hoping that people come to the shows in a Halloween kinda mindset (and attire), and help us ring in Samhain all month long.”

The duo of Greenspan and Matthew Didemus released their third album, Begone Dull Care, earlier this year on Domino Records. A new single featuring Modeselektor and Prins Thomas remixes of Begone Dull Care tracks “Bits and Pieces” and “Work” will be released in time for Hanukkah. “Bits and Pieces” will also be accompanied by a new video directed by Stephanie Comilang, Final Fantasy’s visual collaborator.

Download the Prins Thomas remix of “Work” here.

Los Angeles, CA (September 29, 2009) – ALICE IN CHAINS have hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart with lead single “Check My Brain.” This is the second chart dominated by the riff-driven hit, which also shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock Songs Chart. The track’s video, directed by Alex Courtes (U2, White Stripes, Wolfmother), is currently featured on MTV2’s Elite 8 and can be seen here

Spotlighted by Spin as “one of the catchiest songs of Alice In Chains’ history,” “Check My Brain” appears on the band’s eagerly awaited new album BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE (Virgin/EMI), which arrives in stores today.

The album has been drawing rave reviews from both sides of the pond: Metal Hammer called it “a masterpiece” and “Alice In Chains’ finest hour.” Kerrang! wrote: “…Black Gives Way To Blue is a spine-chilling return.” Rock Sound called it “the mother of all comebacks,” describing it as “…classic-era Alice In Chains and then some.” Playboy gave the record four stars, calling it “Alice In Chains’ Back In Black.” Revolver praised the album for its “dense tapestry of heavy guitars and soaring melodies,” and Reuters wrote: “the heavy guitars, submerged vocals and thunderous rhythm section assures fans that the band has lost none of its menace.”

Tonight Alice In Chains (guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, guitarist/vocalist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez) will celebrate the album’s release with the first of a two-night performance on the hit ABC-TV show “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” The quartet will deliver an electrifying blend of classic hits and new favorites, including “Check My Brain” and “Your Decision.”

The band has been previewing songs from the album during their current sold-out buzz tour, which wraps September 30th at the Avalon in Los Angeles. Next up is a trio of headlining radio dates in Texas, followed by a headlining tour of Europe, set to kick off November 12th in Glasgow.

“Fast becoming the ultimate protest band, State Radio successfully melds Bob Marley populism (‘Calling All Crows,’ ‘Bohemian Grove’) and Clash and Pearl Jam ire (‘Knights of Bostonia,’ ‘Let It Go’). (A-)” — Boston Herald

“Let It Go by State Radio is a wake-up call that will shake you out of your doldrums.
Not only does it rock your world musically, but it treats listeners like human beings
who have a brain with lyrics that are both intelligent and compassionate. It’s a reminder there’s still life in rock and roll and who the music really belongs to. Instead of being sponsored by some corporation, this album is brought to
you by the human spirit that allows us to believe in a better world.”

The track debuted at #6 on Billboard’s Top Singles Chart ahead of major acts like All American Rejects, Linkin Park and Paramore and has remained in the Top 100 for six weeks and counting. Addtionally, the anthemic “Knights Of Bostonia” has already been added to commercial alternative radio stations in the northeast. In the coming days, State Radio will also be releasing their second iPhone application powered by iLike, which will feature tracks, videos, photos, and additional exclusive content.

The band has also confirmed pre-show community service projects via their humanitarian organization, Calling All Crows, for 18 of the 35 tour markets so far. Like Rage Against The Machine and System Of A Down before them, State Radio roll up their sleeves as they practice what they preach, whether it’s riding bikes to gigs to support Bikes Not Bombs, hosting food drives in conjunction with Rock For A Remedy, adopting portions of beaches to ensure they are cleaned regularly, or playing shows to raise money for the Learning Center for the Deaf. On this slew of dates, the band and Calling All Crows will team up with local non-profit groups and participate in service like habitat restoration, sustainability tours and teach-ins. THE 88 DOES ‘COMMUNITY’ SERVICE FOR NBC’S ACCLAIMED NEW COMEDY SERIES “At Least It Was Here” from NBC series, Community Written and Performed by The 88

Band Also Performed Cover Version of

Simple Minds “Don’t You Forget About Me” for Series Pilot

The Los Angeles band, The 88 (http://the88.net), announced today that they have written and performed “At Least It Was Here” the theme song for Community, the acclaimed new comedy series from NBC. The series airs Thursdays at 9:30 PM on NBC, until October 8 when it moves to 8 PM ET/PT. The 88 were also behind the much-blogged about cover of Simple Minds “Don’t You Forget About Me,” that played over the pilot episode’s closing credits.

Tracks from The 88 have made waves on television, video games and online, continuing a trend The 88 initiated upon the release of their first CD Kind of Light. The band’s “Coming Home” was heard in the premiere episode of 90210 last season, while Gossip Girl showcased the piano-driven rocker “It’s A Lot” from their third release, Not Only But Also. The super-charged track “Sons And Daughters” from the same album has challenged Rock Band 2 gamers, while “Hide Another Mistake” was featured on the hit series The O.C. and “All Cause of You” was used in the opening credits of the film, You, Me and Dupree starring Owen Wilson. In all, The 88 has licensed more than 60 tracks to films, television, commercials and other media in their short career.

Recently, The 88 became the first band to record a track entirely on an iPhone. “Love Is The Thing” is a previously released song that was released only on iTunes; within 24 hours it became the band’s most downloaded song. USA Today, Kurt The Cyber Guy, the Los Angeles Times and countless blogs trumpeted The 88 and their innovative new way to record and distribute music entirely outside the mainstream music industry. More information on how The 88 recorded the track can be found here: http://the88.net/love.htm

ABOUT THE 88

Founded in Los Angeles in 2002, The 88 have released three albums – Kind of Light, Over and Over and Not Only…But Also. The band is perhaps best known for their staggering number of music placements in film (Failure to Launch, You Me and Dupree), television (ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, CBS’ How I Met Your Mother) and advertising (Sears, Target, Microsoft Zune) among others. Aside from extensive touring in North America, they have appeared on numerous national talk shows including Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call With Carson Daly. The 88 are lead singer/guitarist Keith Slettedahl, pianist Adam Merrin and drummer Anthony Zimmitti.
