RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Responds to No. 1 Christmas Song Upset Victory: “The Anarchy Christmas Miracle of 2009”

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE THANKS ‘EVERY FAN AND FREEDOM FIGHTER’ FOR ‘THE ANARCHY CHRISTMAS MIRACLE OF 2009’:

NO. 1 CHRISTMAS SONG UPSET VICTORY

LOS ANGELES – RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE issued the following statement today in response to the band’s upset victory this afternoon in the historic people’s campaign to beat Simon Cowell for Britain’s No. 1 Christmas single to raise money and awareness for homelessness:

“Rage Against the Machine is honored to have been drafted by this historic grassroots campaign to make our song ‘Killing in the Name’ the No. 1 song on the UK Christmas Week pop chart. This is a huge victory by and for fans of real music and we extend our heartfelt thanks to every fan and freedom fighter who helped make our anthem of defiance and rebellion the Anarchy Christmas Miracle of 2009.

“As promised we will play a free concert in the UK in celebration of this incredible upset victory over the heavily favored X-Factor single. We are also pleased that so much money has been raised for homeless charity Shelter and are happy to donate as well to aid this important cause. While there are many lessons that can be drawn from this historic upset, the main one is this: that ordinary people, banding together in solidarity, can change ANYTHING, be it the pop charts or the world.”

The song, first released in 1992, sold more than 500,000 copies in the week leading up to the end of business yesterday to beat X Factor winner Joe McElderry’s “The Climb” to the top of the chart, the Official Charts Company announced today.

McElderry achieved sales of 450,000 – although sales of his CD fell away over the past couple of days. In taking the title for 2009, “Killing in the Name” also sets two new landmarks, becoming the UK’s first download-only Christmas number one and notching up the biggest one-week download sales total in British chart history.

Rage Against the Machine led the race for number one from the beginning of the week. By Friday morning, according to the Official Charts Company, Rage Against the Machine held the advantage by just 9,000 copies. But “Killing in the Name” went on to sell 200,000 copies across Friday and yesterday to emerge victorious.

PLEASE NOTE: This will be the only statement Rage Against the Machine will make at this time.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE VOWS TO STAGE ‘HUGE’ FREE U.K. CONCERT TO CELEBRATE VICTORY IN CHARITY BATTLE FOR NO. 1 CHRISTMAS SONG – AND INVITE SIMON COWELL TO MC!

Band Urges Freedom Fighters to ‘Spread the Word’ and Support Grassroots Campaign as Clock Ticks Down

LOS ANGELES — With just a few hours remaining before the winner is decided at the close of today’s sales, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has announced it will play a huge free concert in the U.K. to celebrate a victory as the clock ticks on the historic people’s campaign to beat Simon Cowell for Britain’s No. 1 Christmas single to raise money and awareness for homelessness.

If the unprecedented grassroots movement to topple Cowell’s X-Factor monopoly is successful and the band’s single, “KILLING IN THE NAME” finishes No. 1 on the Christmas Week UK pop charts over Cowell protégé Joe McElderry’s “The Climb,” the group vows to return to U.K. shores sometime in 2010 for the massive “thank you” gig …. and invite 2nd Place finisher and X-Factor impressario Simon Cowell to MC the show!

Rage guitarist Tom Morello issued the following statement:

“Attention Freedom Fighters! RAGE VS. X-FACTOR WILL BE DECIDED BY SATURDAY’S SALES. Spread the word! Knock on doors! Host downloading parties! Knock over ladies buying X-Factor! The clock is ticking. And if ‘Killing in the Name’ is No. 1, WE ARE COMING. And it will be the victory party to end all victory parties.”

Corinne Bailey Rae – I’d Do It Again

The video is directed by acclaimed film director Jamie Thraves, the man responsible for such iconic videos as Radiohead’s ‘Just’ and Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’. Talking about the video Thraves exclusively told Myspace “Corinne and I met just as I was formulating the idea. She told me she was fan of my work, said she thought it was very real looking, cinematic and quite dark and that’s what she wanted for her video, nothing too sunny she said. I looked at her other videos and realised just how sunny they were and why she wanted to do something different for this song but on the day we filmed it was such a lovely sunny day – I told Corinne the sun just seems to follow her around, but it’s okay because in sad moments the sun can underline sadness just as easily as rain.”

Daytrotter Premieres Two New Songs From ‘Hustler’s Son’; Pre-Order Now Available

Jason Boesel has confirmed his first solo U.S. tour in support of his debut album ‘Hustler’s Son’- out January 12 on Team Love Records. Though he’s known for his trenchant drumming work with indie heavyweights Rilo Kiley and Conor Oberst, this tour finds Boesel trading in sticks for guitar and taking lead as frontman. Folk-rock group Dawes will join him onstage as his back-up band on all the dates. The tour kicks off February 5 in Boesel’s home state – California – and will take him cross-country to New York City and back, supporting the co-bill of Dawes and Cory Chisel And the Wandering Sons.

This morning, Daytrotter posted three unplugged versions of songs from ‘Hustler’s Son’ while premiering two. Boesel, accompanied by Blake Mills on lead guitar, starts the set with “French Kissing,” a song he described to Daytrotter as a “discombobulated love jam,” followed by the eerie album opener “Black Waves.” Boesel finishes with a solo performance of “New World Mama.”

Promotional MP3: IRON AGE – BURDEN OF EMPIRE

This is music for fans of fucking furious, tight, beer-soaked, basement mosh-pit party metal like Trash Talk and Bison B.C., Metallica Ride The Lightning-era guitar riffs pushed to the fullest and real in every way with nary a speck of hipster retro throwback. The Sleeping Eye kicks as much ass as any thrash-influenced record released all year – MetalSucks

Austin, Texas’ Iron Age have been slugging it out in hardcore and punk circles since the middle of the decade, touring the North America and abroad with such contemporary hardcore luminaries as Rise And Fall, Cold World, Fucked Up, and Trash Talk while steadily honing the riffed-out hardcore sound established on their 2006 debut Constant Struggle.

With The Sleeping Eye, Iron Age remains a modern torchbearer for the long tradition established by the crossover classics (Corrosion of Conformity’s Animosity, Crumbsuckers’ Life of Dreams, Cro-Mags’ Best Wishes, etc), but twists the NYHC-inspired thrash of their debut to create something bigger and darker, enhancing the violence of their former efforts with mammoth Lovecraftian atmopshere. Gargantuan guitar riffs conjure images of astral behemoths while unnamed terrors lurk in the unwavering, resolute rhythm section. The demon doesn’t truly emerge though until the blood-curdling, blasphemous growls of Jason Tarpey crawl to the startling forefront. Fans of the vocal madness of King Diamond or G.I.S.M.’s Sakevi can rejoice at this reverb-drenched shrieking.

The Sleeping Eye is a sprawling modern heavy metal opus that doesn’t forsake its hardcore roots, but follows them to their sonic extremities, forging a sound that honors the crossover forefathers while treading new ground in brutal atmosphere and doomy ambiance.

Tee Pee Records is proud to present The Sleeping Eye.

Final Fantasy name change to Owen Pallett

Final Fantasy name change to Owen Pallett

Owen Pallett has announced that he will no longer be using the name Final Fantasy for his musical work. Owen Pallett’s breathtaking new album ‘Heartland’ will be available on Domino on January 12, 2010

Owen has issued the following statement:

Friends,

I began playing solo violin shows in 2004. Although it was essentially a solo project, I named the band Final Fantasy, as the experience–and the tone of the material–was reminiscent of the hours and hours I had spent as an adolescent playing those epic JRPGs.

But the laws of trademark infringement exist for good reason, and so I am voluntarily retiring my band name. In the new year, my record Heartland is coming out, and it is my first to be released in many territories, including Japan. With this in mind, I feel it is in my own best interests to definitively distinguish my music from Square/Enix’s games.

So, I am no longer playing shows as Final Fantasy. Subsequent releases, including Heartland, will be issued under my own name, Owen Pallett. Prior releases will sometime soon be re-packaged and re-issued.

I thank Square/Enix their kindness and support, and I thank you all for your understanding.

Salud!

Owen
