Nada Surf Announce Covers Record If I Had A Hi Fi album and Spring Tour news

NADA SURF ANNOUNCE SPRING TOUR DATES, ALBUM OF COVER SONGS

if i had a hi-fi

INITIALLY FOR SALE EXCLUSIVELY IN PHYSICAL FORM AT SHOWS

TOUR BEGINS MARCH 25th

BEGINS WITH THREE “ALBUM SHOWS” IN NEW YORK CITY

LET GO, THE WEIGHT IS A GIFT, LUCKY

Nada Surf bring their trademark sense of harmony and musical craftsmanship to 12 of their favorite songs with their latest release, if i had a hi-fi, their first album of covers. Only a group with their wide-ranging and eclectic taste could bring songs from such artists as Kate Bush, Dwight Twilley and the Go-Betweens together into a coherent, intelligent record. hi-fi also includes some intriguingly obscure numbers like Spanish band Mecromina’s “Evolution” and Bill Fox’s power-pop “Electrocution.”

Nada Surf ImageAlthough a great deal of thought went into the song selections, the band’s intent is not to make an overarching musical statement. Singer-guitarist Matthew Caws says, “We really just wanted to do it organically, whatever we felt like covering in the moment, rather than trying to sum up our influences or something. It’s whatever we were excited about in the months before making it. And I think we got to everything we wanted to.” The result is both inspired and casual, like a conversation with a friend who shares your taste but also pushes your musical boundaries. A vintage Moody Blues tune, the proto-prog tempo-shifting “Question,” shares space with The Soft Pack’s blissfully rudimentary “Bright Side,” Depeche Mode’s grand “Enjoy the Silence,” and experimental music icon Arthur Russell’s terse but sweet “Janine.”

Although the band had just returned from a worldwide tour in support of their 2008 release Lucky, and had looked forward to some time off, if i had a hi-fi mysteriously reenergized them. “The material came together spontaneously,” says Caws. “We’d get together and kick ideas around and soon we had an A list, a B list, a C list…. .” They’re particularly proud of the title, which is both a callback to the musical platform of their youth and a palindrome.

if i had a hi-fi was recorded over three weeks in September at Resonate Studios in Austin, TX with long-time collaborator and part-time keyboardist Louie Lino. Fans who attend shows during the spring tour will be able to get their hands on the record before it’s in stores, offering true believers the opportunity for a double-first: hearing the songs for the first time and being able to take them home.

The tour begins March 25th with three “Album Shows” in NYC. On consecutive nights, Nada Surf will perform their three most recent albums: Let Go, The Weight Is A Gift, and Lucky in full, along with songs from if i had a hi-fi, fan favorites and b-sides. The band will then continue on to cover both the East and West coasts.

There is a Fan pre-sale for most US shows on Wednesday, January 6th at 10 am Local Time at http://nadasurf.musictoday.com

SURFER BLOOD TO TOUR IN SUPPORT OF ‘ASTRO COAST’ DEBUT ALBUM AVAILABLE VIA KANINE RECORDS JANUARY 19, 2010

SURFER BLOOD TO TOUR IN SUPPORT OF ‘ASTRO COAST’ DEBUT ALBUM AVAILABLE VIA KANINE RECORDS JANUARY 19, 2010

Surfer Blood is pleased to announce a US tour beginning in February to support their highly anticipated debut record, Astro Coast. These tour dates will lead the band up to their shows at SXSW.

Astro Coast will be available on January 19, 2010 via Kanine Records. Astro Coast was recorded in a college dorm room using musical equipment purchased with scholarship money. The band scrapped the original studio sessions because they didn’t like the way the engineer was affecting their sound. Astro Coast is an album’s worth of catchy, summery indie songs that even the most hook-laden power pop band would rightfully be jealous of. When the whole nation is revving up the nostalgia for the blissed-out indie vibes of the early-to-mid-‘90s, expect Astro Coast to snag some serious fans.

Praise for Astro Coast:

“Astro Coast can stand up to online scrutiny — it’s girls that keep Surfer Blood’s reverbed indie rock jumping out of its skin. Not that you need notice the angst for all the crunchy riffs, sunny harmonies, inscrutable humor, occasional strings, and Afropop touches.” SPIN [4/5 stars]

“Their song ‘Swim (To Reach The End)’ is one of the best rock songs I’ve heard this year. The track blows past other indie fodder because its monolithic production makes it sound stadium-ready- refreshing when most other newbie bands are trying to make their records sound barely basement-ready.” Pitchfork

“Giant-sized choruses, festooned in glitter and lit up with neon” Rolling Stone

“An endearing melange of 1950s chord progressions, Afropop guitar filigree and grunge buildups heading for power-pop choruses.” The New York Times

Blestenation Release Video For ‘Blackout’ Featuring Blink 182’s Travis Barker

Blestenation Release Video For ‘Blackout’ Featuring Blink 182’s Travis Barker
***

New York hip-hop trio Blestenation has released their video for the track “Blackout” featuring Blink 182’s Travis Barker online. The track will be featured on Blestenation’s debut album “Mbugout City”, which hits stores on February 23rd, 2010 through Suburban Noize Records.

“’Blackout’ is one of my favorite songs on the album. My man Lonnie and I were in the studio together for about fifteen minutes and came up with the track, then he laid down the hook. Later on some of our people sent it to Travis Barker who had been a big fan of our ‘FAM3 mixtape’. He laid down live drums and sent me the files and we worked it in to the song. He was real cool about it,” commented FAFU from Blestenation. “The song is about waking up after a night of debauchery and not really remembering what had happened or how you ended up where you ended up. It’s something a lot of us can relate to.”

Blestenation have been destroying the world of underground hip-hop on tour with the likes of Bone Thugs -N- Harmony, Scarface, Killah Priest, and the Warped Tour. The group was previously signed to Geffen Records, but their reckless behavior got them kicked off of the Warped Tour, into fist fights inside the Sony Music offices, and booted out of the Teen Choice Awards after an altercation with American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest.

Flight of the Conchords’ Arj Barker Releases Debut Comedy Album LYAO Jan 26

On January 26, Warner Nashville/Degenerate Records will release Arj Barker’s debut comedy album LYAO. Arj, one of America’s most offbeat observational comics, has appeared on several television comedy shows in addition to his well-known and hilarious character “Dave” on the hit HBO show, Flight of the Conchords. Available on both CD/DVD and standalone DVD, LYAO will also debut as a Comedy Central special January 24.

LYAO Trailer:

Upcoming Tour Dates:

Jan 14 -16 Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub (Dallas, TX)

Jan 20 Washington & Lee University (Lexington, VA)
Jan 29 University of Wyoming (Laramie, WY)
Feb 4 – 6 Parlor Live (Bellevue, WA)

Warner Bros. Records/Degenerate Records comic Arj Barker releases his debut comedy album, LYAO, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, after the Comedy Central special debuts Sunday, Jan. 24. LYAO will be available on CD/DVD and standalone DVD.

In LYAO, which stands for “laugh your ass off,” Arj Barker pokes fun at controversial topics ranging from gay marriages and religion to global warming and losing Pluto as a planet. Barker also points out the constant misunderstandings faced through our growing technological advancements (each track name reflects a common communication abbreviation) which can easily be remedied through fonts that convey tone, such as “Sarcastica” and “Good Times Roman.”

Arj Barker is famously recognized for appearing as Dave, Bret and Jermaine’s friend on the HBO sitcom Flight of the Conchords and as a fifth season semi-finalist on Last Comic Standing. He has made appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as well regularly headlining clubs in the US, UK and Australia. Barker has also appeared on Comedy Central Presents in 2000 and 2006, and Premium Blend.
