HAMMERFALL MENTIONED DURING CURLING EVENT AT 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS TOUR STARTS ON MARCH 5th IN WEST SPRINGFIELD, VA

Mark Morton of Examiner.com reported that during Sunday night’s (February 21) women’s curling match between USA and Sweden, Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL became the unlikely topic of discussion on CNBC television.

At 11:22 p.m. ET, in the beginning of the sixth end, Colleen Jones was commenting on how much she enjoyed the curling montage of various teams screaming when Andrew Catalon piped in, and the following conversation ensued.

Andrew: “If you really want to see something fascinating, I suggest you go to YouTube, and type in ‘Hearts on Fire’ and ‘curling,’ because just prior to the 2006 Winter Olympics, Anette’s [Norberg] team was featured in a rock video for this Swedish heavy metal band HAMMERFALL. The song is ‘Hearts on Fire’. The team takes on the band in a curling game, and then the curlers — this team — starts singing while they’re sweeping! So that is a must-see video! I’ve watched it!”

Colleen: “Is there a future for them as rock stars? They’re already rock stars, but could they be other rock stars?”

Andrew: “Well, it turned out to be a good luck charm; they went on to win a gold medal!”

Colleen: “Yeah, I was asking Anette the other day, ‘Hey, any more rock videos for you?’ Nope, they haven’t had any more offers since then.”

Andrew: “Going out on top, obviously.”

Eva Lund of the Swedish curling team told Reuters in a February 2006 interview, “We loved [taking part in the video] and it gave us energy. The HAMMERFALL band was fantastic and they are cheering for us and writing e-mails to us when we are here,” she said after Sweden beat Norway 5-4.

In the video, which can be viewed below, the team arrives for a match in a dingy rink to be confronted by their opponents: a wild-haired, leather-clad heavy metal band with dubious curling skills.

The women sweep to victory — aided by an on-ice drum kit — but not before they have morphed into leather and chain-clad singers themselves.

“Hearts On Fire” comes off HAMMERFALL’s 2002 album, “Crimson Thunder”. The track was reissued as a single in Sweden in January 2006 to give a “boost” to the team as they prepared for the Winter Olympics in Turin.

“The video was a blast to record, an attitude shared by everyone involved. The result is an amusing and, for us, a little unusual video,” stated HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak at the time.

HAMMERFALL reached a career-crowning achievement this past March of 2009 when No Sacrifice, No Victory attained Gold status in their home country – debuting at #2 on the Swedish album charts and remained in the Top 10 for four weeks. The band topped the charts in many other European countries as well: Germany #7; Greece #10, Switzerland #20; England #21; Austria #25; Czech Republic #33; Norway #46; Belgium #87; France #95.

MISS MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCES NEW CLIENT A LIFE ONCE LOST NEW ALBUM TO BE RELEASED LATER THIS YEAR

MISS MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCES NEW CLIENT A LIFE ONCE LOST NEW ALBUM TO BE RELEASED LATER THIS YEAR

Miss Management is pleased to announce that they are now representing Pennsylvania metallers A LIFE ONCE LOST.

Conceived in a Philadelphia, PA suburb in 1999, A LIFE ONCE LOST features Robert Meadows (Vocals), Robert Carpenter (Guitar), Douglas Sabolick AKA Snake Sustaine (Guitar) and Justin Graves (Drums). The band recorded their first two albums on Robotic Empire and their third album was released on Deathwish Inc. Following the release of their third album, the band signed with Ferret Music and unleashed their 2005 opus Hunter which reached #28 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, #39 on the US Top Independent Album Chart, and has sold over 40,000 copies to date. Hunter was followed up in 2007 with Iron Gag which charted on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at # 44.

A LIFE ONCE LOST is just as stoked to be represented by with Miss Management. Guitarist Snake Sustaine had the following to say about working with Miss Management,

“We are proud to announce that ALOL are now working hand in hand with Maria Ferrero and Miss Management/Adrenaline PR. We worked together on our PR Campaign for our 2005 release HUNTER and it was killer! We are deep into writing our new album and feel that in working together we can make our hallucinations come true. Should be a rager bro!”

Head of Miss Management/Adrenaline PR, Maria Ferrero commented on working with A LIFE ONCE LOST, “It has to be about something cool and something fun for me to get involved with a band. ALOL has always been a band that impressed me anytime I would see them live… Just totally awesome to watch the band pummeling fans with their brutal brand of unrelenting ‘wall of sound’ as well as their genius recorded releases…. ALOL blow me away with their heaviness and technical prowess.”

A LIFE ONCE LOST is currently in the studio working on their follow up to Iron Gag and they hope to have it out before year’s end. Look for a United States tour to follow the album’s release.

GORILLAZ “STYLO” VIDEO WORLDWIDE YOUTUBE PREMIERE MARCH 2; “PLASTIC BEACH” NPR FIRST LISTEN FULL ALBUM PREVIEW MARCH 1; COMPLETELY NEW GORILLAZ.COM LIVE NOW

GORILLAZ “STYLO” VIDEO WORLDWIDE YOUTUBE PREMIERE MARCH 2; “PLASTIC BEACH” NPR FIRST LISTEN FULL ALBUM PREVIEW MARCH 1; COMPLETELY NEW GORILLAZ.COM LIVE NOW

“We’ve been waiting since ‘05 for the cartoon band that brought us hits like ‘Feel Good Inc.’ and ‘Clint Eastwood’ to regroup. And now we know what’s taken them so long: Gorillaz’ sublime new single sounds like Kraftwerk backing and old-fashioned soul revue”

—Entertainment Weekly

“’Stylo’ boasts cameos by R&B vet Bobby Womack, testifying like a Harlem storefront preacher, and Mos Def, sounding like he Skyped in his 16 bars from an interstellar Internet café. Yet Albarn himself shines brightest, crooning like a proper soulman…”

—Rolling Stone

“Stylo,” the first video from the hotly anticipated third Gorillaz album Plastic Beach, will premiere globally on YouTube on March 2, 2010. The video premiere will follow the March 1 launch of a streaming full album preview as part of NPR Music’s Exclusive First Listen series at www.npr.org/music.

Directed by Jamie Hewlett and produced by Cara Speller for Zombie Flesh Eaters, with live action by HSI Productions in Los Angeles, and animation by Passion Pictures in London, “Stylo” follows Gorillaz bass demigod Murdoc Niccals through a dangerous trip to the mainland from his new home on the Plastic Beach, namesake of the new record. Something goes badly wrong and Murdoc, guitarist/Cyborg Noodle—who has replaced her (its?) flesh and blood counterpart since the original’s apparent demise in the previous Demon Days’ final video “El Manana”—and vocalist 2D end up in a high speed car chase with a local cop and an unknown assailant. Cyborg Noodle’s circuits start failing and 2D fears for their lives as the gun toting bounty hunter draws ever closer….

Murdoc recalls of the video shoot (no pun intended), “Someone was chasing me through the desert! Luckily I had my camera crew following me and they captured it all on film, so I’ve cut it up and stuck it back together for my ‘Stylo’ video! That’ll learn me not to leave the safe, toxic, isolated haven of Plastic Beach…”

Murdoc’s new stomping grounds can be explored at the all-new all-different Gorillaz.com. The completely new site, which has just gone live, has been relocated from the now defunct Kong Studios (RIP) to the newly constructed complex at Point Nemo, Plastic Beach.

The “Stylo” single is on sale now and has already received a 4-star review from Rolling Stone and a “Must List” plug from Entertainment Weekly. Plastic Beach will be released by Virgin in the U.S. on March 9. Plastic Beach is the first Gorillaz album since 2005’s Demon Days which featured the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocal Grammy winner “Feel Good Inc.” and, like its predecessor 2001’s Gorillaz, sold some six million copies worldwide. Gorillaz will headline the April 18 final day of this year’s Coachella festival in Indio CA, which will be the first live Gorillaz experience in the States since the Demon Days Live sold out five-night run at Harlem’s Apollo Theater.

GLASGOW’S CODEINE VELVET CLUB ANNOUNCE FIRST US SHOWS BAND WILL MAKE FIVE APPEARANCES AT SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST MUSIC CONFERENCE IN AUSTIN SUPPORTING METRIC ON WEST COAST TOUR IN MARCH

GLASGOW’S CODEINE VELVET CLUB ANNOUNCE FIRST US SHOWS BAND WILL MAKE FIVE APPEARANCES AT SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST MUSIC CONFERENCE IN AUSTIN SUPPORTING METRIC ON WEST COAST TOUR IN MARCH

Codeine Velvet Club, the new musical project composed of The Fratellis’ Jon Lawler and singer/songwriter Lou Hickey, will play their first-ever US shows this March. They are slated for five performances at this year’s upcoming South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX. Dates are below.

Directly following their appearances at SXSW, the band will embark on a west coast tour in support of Canadian indie-pop band Metric. The tour kicks off March 21st in Seattle, WA and continues through March 26th in Los Angeles, CA.

The collaboration began when Lawler, taking a break from whirlwind touring and recording with The Fratellis, teamed up with Hickey to work on a track – the jazzy, big-band duet titled “Vanity Kills” – for her record. The song inspired the duo to embark on a full-fledged project together. The resulting album features an elegant orchestral score written by Mick Cooke of Belle & Sebastian, backing vocals by the Gospel Truth Choir and strings parts recorded by renowned classical musicians, including legendary trumpeter Derek Watkins.

The group celebrates Lawler and Hickey’s shared love of ’60s boy-girl duets, dramatic orchestral pop and dark postwar Hollywood and Las Vegas romanticism. Lawler drew inspiration for the album’s dark energy and vampish edge from his time spent in Hollywood. He described his vision for Codeine Velvet Club’s album as sounding like ’60s soundtrack composer (and James Bond theme-tune creator) John Barry “playing with a rock ‘n roll band.”

Born Ruffians to release new album Say It on Paper Bag Records.

Born Ruffians to release new album Say It on Paper Bag Records.

Toronto — Born Ruffians and Paper Bag Records are pleased to announce their second album, Say It, due out June 1st. If Born Ruffians’ 2008 debut album Red Yellow and Blue was the result of a talented and precocious gang of freshmen, their 2010 follow-up, Say It, would be the project they left school to finish — a declaration that they’re smart and ambitious enough to make it on their own, and furthermore, that they’re in it for the long haul.

Taking two weeks to record the album, the band finds itself teaming up again with producer Rusty Santos. The Ruffians and co. holed up at Mississauga’s Metalworks studio and loosed the reins on their ambitions, experimenting with Minimoogs and saxophones before eventually scaling much of it back in the mixing process.

The result is a very mature album, further amplifying the band’s unique voice and sound, ready to take them as far as they want to go. And that includes a very thorough tour of North America including SXSW and CMW. See tour dates below.

WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS NEW EP THE LAST PLACE YOU LL LOOK DUE MARCH 9 ON FATCAT!

WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS NEW EP THE LAST PLACE YOU LL LOOK DUE MARCH 9 ON FATCAT!

The Last Place You ll Look EP is the first release from Scotland s We Were Promised Jetpacks since their breakthrough debut album These Four Walls was released in July 2010. Recorded over five days at Andrew Bush s apartment studio in December 2009 – with singer Adam Thompson s vocals recorded in Bush s kitchen – the EP features three new songs as well as two alternate recordings of songs from the album.

Lead-off track A Far Cry has been part of We Were Promised Jetpacks live show along their current headlining US tour, which finishes up in Austin at SXSW. New songs A Far Cry, The Walls Are Wearing Thin, and With The Benefit Of Hindsight were written the week before the EP was recorded, using ideas that Thompson had been working on for some time, quickly demo ed, and finished in the studio.

The band went into writing and recording the EP with the explicit goal of making the new songs less urgent than their album, explained Thompson; to this end, they used strings and piano, and, made full use of the studio, with an added focus on the recordings sonic depth.

The final track, a gorgeous, mournful take on This Is My House, This Is My Home, is piano-led and bolstered by simple strings; the spare instrumentation and drawn-out vocal delivery lend a bleak majesty to an already haunting song.

The Last Place You ll Look reveals another dimension to We Were Promised Jetpacks; the more deliberately-paced, thoughtful selections here prove that there s much more we can expect from this young and already accomplished band.

Track List

1. A Far Cry

2. Short Bursts

3. The Walls Are Wearing Thin

4. With The Benefit Of Hindsight

5. This Is My House, This Is My Home
